  1. Baptism unites us with Christ in His death and resurrection. Our old life has died and we are raised up new, to a new life. Water baptism (immersion) actually is symbolic of this and serves as a visual sign to others of our new life in Christ.
  2. This answer would seem obvious to me. When we give up our life for the life that Christ offers when He died on the cross is when we change headships. Salvation and acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice for our sins is the changing point. The implications are many. We are "new" in every sense of the word. We are now representatives for God and what He has done for us. Our outlook on sin is new, as is our outlook on eternal life. We are now burdened as Christ was for our fellow man and desire to let everyone know about Him. We are changed; we are new; we are different from the world; we are being sanctified daily and our goal is two-fold: to be more like Jesus and to bring as many as we can to know Him.
  3. This can be a difficult verse and could mean different things to different people obviously. I interpret it like this: Sin has always been in this world, or better said, exists because Satan is ruler of this world right now. However how is one to know "sin" or "right from wrong" if there are no guidelines. If we never knew the law we could sin forever and never know it was wrong. But because the law was given our sin was brought to light. Now we have no excuse. We have been made aware of right and wrong. The law was indeed given to magnify our sinfulness and help us realize we are in need of a Savior.
  4. The first example is a man as head of his family. He would bear the responsibility for decisions made, good or bad, for his wife and children and sometimes even his parents. The second example I can think of is a pastor leading his church. Even if he has a council or deacon body that consults with him he is ultimately the one that God has put in charge of leading His sheep. The congregants will normally follow his lead or suggestions. The third example is our president who has authority to do many things even with a congress to check and balance his power. His will can be conveyed to the people of the country to rally support (or not) and his will can utterly destroy or enhance the populace. A fourth example is a company with employees that are affected by one person's decision. I work for a man who is the sole owner of his company and he alone makes all financial decisions. It has greatly affected his employees sometimes for the better and sometimes not.
  5. Q4 Reconciliation means to "make things right between 2 or more people". This is what Jesus' death did for us when we accept Him as Savior. It is necessary because without it we are strangers to God. Now because of the resurrection our life is changed daily, to conform more to the character of Jesus. We have hope that we can be like Him because He lives in us and transforms our lives if we let Him.
  6. Q3 We have to believe Christ died while we were still sinners otherwise we think that our salvation and God's love is something to be earned We must rely fully upon His grace for salvation and cleansing. Christ died while we were at our very worst and completely separated from him by sin. However Satan's lies will be "You're never going to be good enough " and in that regard he is correct. But the good news is that we know this yet we are not defeated by it. We must remain faithful and strong in Christ and choose to believe Him rather than Satab

  8. Q2 Tribulations and trials bring about characteristics that are desirable as a Christian. It also strengthens our faith in Christ as we lean on Him and look to Him for strength and help. Perseverence is something that I tend to struggle with and God works with me on regularly. However I've come to know fully all about "God's timing" and am therefore encouraged to be patient as I wait upon God to work. Character is developed as we persist and persevere through the most difficult of times. We realize that we are dependent on God and we become more like Him as we seek His face especially in the hard times. This is the goal...to become more and more like Him. Hope comes from realizing only God has control of any situation. Since we know God is always good we can have confidence that whatever happens is for our good and His glory. This hope is strengthened by character-building and perseverance.
  9. Q1 For Abraham the connection between Faith and Justification was Belief in God alone. He believed what God had promised him and was therefore justified. Q2 For us the connection between Faith and Justification is the blood of Jesus. He has cleansed us and by faith in Him and His shed blood we are justified. Q3 Justification for me is not only being forgiven but accepted as one made Holy. This occurred when I placed my faith in Christ, repented and began a lifelong walk with Him.
