J John the Baptist knew his mission in life. He clearly understood that he had been set apart by God for a purpose. John was different to the prophets and priests of his time. Through God's direction, John the Baptist challenged the people to prepare for the coming of the Messiah by turning away from sin and being baptized as a symbol of repentance. Although he held no power or influence in the Jewish political system, he delivered his message with the force of authority. People could not resist the overpowering truth of his words, as they flocked by the hundreds to hear him and be baptized. Q4. Servant's Heart
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Listening for the Holy Spirit's Voice
Samuel is a humble servant and is willing to obey. A servant is one who listens for, listens to and obeys his master. Thus Samuel’s servant attitude is an important preparation for hearing God’s voice. Surrender to Jesus shows humility, love, obedience, willingness to serve faithfully . -
Q3. Spirit's Voice and Nudges
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Listening for the Holy Spirit's Voice
The Spirit’s voice is Him speaking to you in words and being a believer, you can hear it. The Spirit’s nudge is a prompt, a feeling you might get, a guidance to do something. I have to really find a quiet time to concentrate on His word, pray, obey Him. Live a life for Him. -
The Holy Spirit, if it is in us, connects us to the mind of Christ. I try to pray and read early in the mornings but my thoughts often wander. I have to discipline myself to block out the distractions that interrupt my scripture readings, devotion.

Q1. Prayer and Sensitivity
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Listening for the Holy Spirit's Voice
Jesus always found time to pray to His father for guidance. He spends quiet time to commune with His Father to determine what He has to do. This quiet time enables Jesus to talk with His Father and learn the will of His Father. Jesus knows that everything He does is dependent on His Father’s will. Jesus ministers through the Holy Spirit because it keeps him connected to God and enables Him to continue God's work of teaching, healing. -
Q3. Spirit's Role in Gifts
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 9. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 2)
The lessons learned are that the gifts given by the Holy Spirit are not according to our power or will. These gifts are bestowed on individuals so that they can continue to build His church as a place of healing and proclaiming knowledge of His word. The Holy Spirit empowers and distributes spiritual gifts individually according to His own will and plan. -
Q2. Healing with Evangelism
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 9. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 2)
Throughout Jesus’ adult ministry after his baptism and temptation He preached and healed the sick. As in Matthew 9:35 ‘And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.’ Paul’s ministry of healing began after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.is shown in Acts 28:7-10 which describe his healing of the people on the island of Malta. Peter’s ministry of healing began after Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.is shown in In Matthew 4:18, Peter is called to discipleship by Jesus. Acts 3:1-11 narrates his healing of the paralyzed man “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Philip’s is shown in Acts 8:5-7where in Samaria he preached and healed the lame and paralyzed. -
Q1. Gift of Knowledge
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 9. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 2)
Yes one can definitely use Jesus as an example in the use of one's spiritual gifts. He is the Holy Spirit and He bestowed on believers the gifts to continue His works on earth. Evidence of the gift of knowledge in the Old Testament can be seen in Genesis 6:12-1 when Jesus foretold Noah of the flood. Evidence in the New Testament can be found in Matthew 1:20 when God revealed to Joseph that Mary’s pregnancy was of the Holy Spirit. -
Q3. Gift of Prophecy
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 1)
Gift of prophecy is a proclamation from God, through the Holy Spirit, conveyed through a believer. They do not know whether the prophecy is false or not. Paul said that we should weigh carefully what is prophesied and should not treat prophesies with contempt, but test them and avoid anything evil. -
Q2. Modern Apostles
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 1)
According to the definition of an Apostle : ‘A Christian leader called and spiritually gifted by God to open new spiritual regions for the spreading of the Gospel. They lay foundations, equip believers and serve as catalysts and coordinators of churches and ministries.’, yes I do think that there are modern-day apostles. There are people today who fit the description of an apostle and are doing the work of an apostle. A friend of mine, a Dr. of Divinity gave up being a priest and has been doing missionary work in Africa for years. She saw the need to plant churches and spread God’s word. I am also certain that there are many who think and say that they are apostles but are not. Some people are genuinely great ministers for Christ, and because they have a large ministry or plant churches are they all really apostles?. -
Q1. Purpose of Gifts
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. Gifts Empowered by the Holy Spirit (part 1)
1 Corinthians 12:7: Spiritual gifts are given so that believers can help each other and as they do this, they become more empowered by the Holy Spirit. They do not focus on their experiences but on others, helping those in need, sharing their faith with others. Ephesians 4:11: God gave certain gifts and associated them with certain key positions in the church. Christ equips these people with gifts and positions to train, equip and protect his sheep. Christ himself gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors all given spiritual gifts so that they can continue the expansion of God's words and churches. They were chosen so that all of His people could receive the truth to live right and good lives. There becomes dissention in God’s churches -
Q3. Tongues, Prophecy, and Praise
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. Baptized with the Holy Spirit
No. On the day of Pentecost it was the first time that Jesus fulfilled His promise to His disciples by filling them with the Holy Spirit to continue His ministry. He did this by using tongues of fire that sat on the disciples. No. The Holy Spirit does not come in this way always I think that this was the only time there was mention of tongues of fire. Yes, people receive the Holy Spirit without there being tongues of fire resting on them.. -
They were given extra power, sustenance to strengthen them to with the attacks on them and to continue God's works. No, there is no refilling but an extra boost, a quickening of the Holy Spirit in them I would say yes as the Lord sees the need of it.

Q1. Baptized, Filled, Received
Eilen replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. Baptized with the Holy Spirit
On the Day of Pentecost the disciples were assembled in one place and there was a sound of rushing wind and there appeared cloven tongues like fire and it sat on each disciple filling them with the Holy Ghost. The disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages as the Spirit gave them utterance. Word analogies were: receiving the Holy Spirit, being baptized in the Holy Spirit, filled with the Holy Spirit, pouring out of the Holy Spirit. Yes. They were able to see the tongues of fire sitting on the disciples, that is, the disciples receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit that Jesus had promised them. They were able to hear the disciples speaking their languages. Peter said that what the Jews were seeing was prophesied by the prophet Joel. That God would pour out His Holy Spirit on all believers who will be saved.
