Q3. Tongues, Prophecy, and Praise
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. Baptized with the Holy Spirit
Thr Holy Spirit does not always inspire people he "fills" with the gift of speaking in tongues. It is quite possible to be filled with the Holy Spiritn without having the gift of speaking in tongues. It is normal to be filled with the Holy Spirit without expriencing speaking in tongues. The person who is filled with the Holy Spirit is as filled as one who speaks in tongues after the Holy Spirit has entered him. Speaking in tongues does not lessen the degree of fulfillment experienced; the Spirit in-dwells people to the fullest. -
Q1. Baptized, Filled, Received
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. Baptized with the Holy Spirit
he apostles were all baptized with the Holy Spirit. Tongues of flame appeared over each man's head. They all "spoke in tongues", in fact they were all speaking to the crowds of people from foreign lands abd each foreigner heard an apostle's voice speaking the language he was familiar with. The phrase "speaking in tongues" has arrived in our lifetimes as a girt from God. This is not quite what the words mean, their deeper meaning would read that they "spoke in many languages". The Jewish foreigners accused the apostles of being drunk. They were perplexed that all of them could hear the apostles' message and understand it because it was in their iwn language. Peter corrected them sayting that they were not drunk, especially drunk especially because it was still so early in the morning. -
Jesus invites all who are thirsty to drink. Living water is another name for the Spirit that Jesus tries to teach his disciples. Living water must flow throughout each person; if it does, they are receiving the Holy Spirit. They are a source of comfort to others;l they share the Spirit with those who do not believe. If we drink of the living water we will receive the blessing of God the Father. I was born again at a church service and found the living water flowing through me almost instantaneously. It was the beginning of a new life for me. The Holy Spirit flowed through me and I was born anew. An earth-shaking experience.

People who have been born of the Spirit understand that God exists and that they are looked after by the Spirit. In the wind they see that it blows where it wants to, we cannot see where it comes from or where it is going to. But we can feel it and see treetoips moving because of the wind., Jesus compares the Holy Spirit with the wind. We do not know where it is coming from or to where it is going. Yet it dwells in believers even thoigh they do not know where it comes from.

No, not at this time. He was inwardly prepared to receive the spirit but did not yet know ot the Spirit's existence. Nicodemus was confused about the phrase "born again". He did not think it possible to be reborn; he was thinking of the wrong thing. People who have been reborn understand their need to be in contact with God. They realize that they are blessed by God and want to please God in their daily lives. They have been reborn and blessed by the Holy Spirit. They yearn to be pleasing to God. Those who are not born again do not long for God's blesing; they often denoince our Lord and tell others that there is no God.

Q3. Power of the Spirit
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. The Holy Spirit in Jesus' Ministry
Jesus performned miracles by virtue of the Holy Spirit working within him. This is important for us today because we can only act ss God would have us do if we are empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus is a great example for us heee on earth. Before his Passion he was a man like us today. We can follow hia example if we ket the Hoky Spirit work within us. -
Q2. Son Can Do Nothing
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. The Holy Spirit in Jesus' Ministry
Jesus'statement "the Son can do nothing by himself" refers to the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is acknowledging that whatever he does in the way of miracles is accomplidhed by God the Father. Jesus is saying that he acts with the support of God the Father, by whom all is possible. Jesus cannot act alone; he acts with the blessings of his Father. Jesus acted in order that we may see and believe in God's work among men. We can learn from his subjection to be more humble and obedient, following in the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus provides the perfect example of obedience to God he shows us how to be nearer to God every day. He emptied himself of everything to become the humble servant as we too should become closer to God by lowering ourselves and approaching God in humility. -
Q1. Core Identity
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. The Holy Spirit in Jesus' Ministry
How does the Holy Spirit establish your core identity as a disciple of Jesus I am filled with the Holy Spirit - the Spirit lives within me guarding me against disasters of the flesh. Through the spirit and through prayer I van be in contact with God the Father and God the Son. The Holy Spirit, the third part of the Trinity, can lead me into the presence of God, It is through the Spirit that I can submit my prayers to God. -
Q1. Core Identity
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. The Holy Spirit in Jesus' Ministry
When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist in the River Jordan, the Spirit came to him in the form of a dove. A voice from the heavens proclaimed "This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased," This was the voice of God sending the Holy Spirit upon Jesus, his son. Jesus was blessed by the Holy Spirit as he began his ministry. -

Q1. The Spirit Upon
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament
God selected special people to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Inspired by the Holy Spirit dwelling within them, they became leaders of Israel and prophets. Through them God spoke to His people. They became the leaders of the community and the mouthpiece of God; through them God spoke to His chosen people. They received this wonderful gift in different ways. Samuel heard God calling to him in the night and he thought it must be Eli, with whom he was living. Eli told him to return to his bed and wait for another call. When it came, it would be God calling. Moses received the spirit on the mountain where the Israelites were camped on their way to the Promised Land. The people were restless, did not understand that the manna they received every morning was indeed a blessing from God. They were sick of it, perhaps, and not in contact with God. Moses was called to go up the mountain to talk to God, who was swathed by a thick fog. He went and received the gift of the Holy Spirit and, when he rejoined his people in the plain, he spoke to them of God and the blessings they were receiving from Him. -
Q2. The 70 Elders
Francesca replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament
God took a portion of the Holy Spirit from Moses and brushed it over the gathering of 70 elders so that they could prophesy and act as leaders of the Israelites. Removing this portion from Moses did not diminish his powers; it was an act of sharing. By this gift the 70 elders were enriched in what they could accompish.
