Q5. (John 16:12-15) In what sense does the Holy Spirit guide us into all truth? Does this promise apply only to the apostolic age and its task of laying the foundations of the faith? In what sense does it apply to us today The Spirit does not come on His own authority but to come bear witness to Jesus, just as Jesus bore witness to the Father. He reminds us of the teachings of Jesus by discernment. He convicts us of sin and unrighteous living in our present day. We can testify to this when we have those aha moments. This can happen after hearing a great Sermon, reading the Word or meditation. That is our most intimate time with God. We then are to testify as to what we were shown and taught.

Q4. (John 16:5-7; 14:12) What benefit is there to the disciples that Jesus goes away? What promise do we have in John 14:12 concerning the Spirit’s power in believers? First, through His death, they have redemption. Also, they will do greater things but they had to wait for the Spirit to come and clothe them with power (receive the Spirit), before they could preach and teach.

Q3. (John 14:26; 15:26; 16:13a) Why do we believe that the Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force or power, but a Person? What kinds of functions that we attribute to persons does the Holy Spirit do? Why is it so easy to refer to the Spirit as “it” rather than “Him”? It is seen as a person because, the Spirit is referred to as a he in different Bible scriptures, you would not assign a gender to a force of power. He Spirit can testify, teach, be lied to, be grieved, assign ministry, bear witness to the Christ and much more. Because a lot of people still see the Spirit as a power and not a person.

Q2. (John 15:26-27) What does it mean to “testify”? In what way does the Spirit testify about Jesus? Can you testify from personal knowledge about Jesus? Or were the apostles the only first-hand witnesses? To testify means to bear witness to all of the things Jesus is doing or has done in ones life. The Spirit testifies about Jesus by reminding us about his Word and his life. He is our counselor, comforter, friend, rabbi and so on. No, because I am filled with the Spirit, I do not have historical knowledge about Jesus but I can testify as to how he has changed my life.

Q1. (John 14:15-17) In what sense is the Holy Spirit “another” Paraclete? Who was the initial Paraclete? In what way can the Holy Spirit replace him? How was he “with” the disciples? When will he be “in” them? The initial Paraclete was Jesus, he walked among the disciples as their counselor, friend, adviser and so on. However, the Father promised to send a Paraclete that would reside within them, guiding them along on their journey. Because they knew Jesus, they would also know the Spirit, unlike the World.

Who sends the Holy Spirit? The Father or Jesus? Does it matter? Answer - The Father, as a helper or keeper for Jesus, when He is no longer on earth.

Q3. (Luke 3:22; 4:1, 14a; 4:18-19; 5:17b; 10:21; Acts 10:38a) Did Jesus do miracles by reason of being the unique Son of God, or by means of the power of the Holy Spirit upon him? Why is this important for us as his disciples? In what ways does Jesus serve as our example in ministry. Answer: Jesus did miracles by the power of the Spirit. This is important because Jesus, like us was a man. I believe that he came down to earth as a man to teach us how to use the gift of the Spirit effectively and efficiently. This teaches us that the Spirit endows us with power and we too can prophecy, interpret, have unspeakable joy, cast out evil and all the other miracles that the Spirit brings.

What does Jesus’ statement, “the Son can do nothing by himself,” indicate about his relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to “empty himself” from his heavenly glory when he became a man? I believe that He had to empty himself of his heavenly glory to allow himself to be lead totally upon the Spirit of God. By doing this, he established the Father as the God head and understands his submissive role to Him. In doing this we understand the relationship of Father and son.

In what ways is the Holy Spirit active in establishing Jesus' core identity as the Son of God? I believe that the Holy Spirit was very active in establishing Jesus's core identity as the son by First by letting Mary know that she was chosen to carry and bring into the world the Son of the Most High. - The Holy spirit came upon her and she conceived. He sent a messenger ahead so that we can assume, be informed. Once she was pregnant, he again established Jesus as the Son of God by sending an angel to Joseph to comfort him. This was done by informing him that Mary was fine to take as a wife, that she did not "step out" and the baby inside her came from the Holy Spirit, not a man!! Also, during his baptismal it was once again established that Jesus is His son verbally by God, when he stated "This is my Son, in whom I am well pleased". The Father spoke these words right after the Holy Spirit descended upon Him like a dove. The Spirit has established my core identity as a Christian by first - choosing me. Once I decided to answer the call He has been guiding me through my Christian walk by filling me with the fruits of the Spirit. Know that I am filled with the Spirit, I continuously to ask God to strengthen my spiritual gifts. So that I can be a blessing to my church and community!
