  1. Question 4 (1 Samuel 16:14-23) From Saul's perspective, why is David summoned to court? From God's perspective, what seem to be the reasons for this service in Saul's court? What things tend to prevent us from learning from God in the midst of the circumstances in which we find ourselves? What might make us more teachable? From Saul's perspective: to help him soothe his soul from the evil spirit that torment him also because David was well recommended and Saul was told that David had the "Lord with him" From God's perspective : David was there in the court to learn the duties of a King. A training camp for David to know the heart of governing and the process of his calling to be the leader that he is anointed to be. We have the tendency to take matters in our own hand. We want to solve the problem ourselves rather than waiting on God to direct us. Also we get caught up the the everyday activities and forgot to ask God for our direction in our situations or circumstances. When we do not get His direction we will fail but when it is God's will all is good. What makes us more teachable is a humble and a childlike spirit. We must be open to teaching and correction. This can come only with a repentant heart and a heart of humility. Recognising that God is above all and the Spirit of the Lord is the teacher,I humble myself everyday to learn and be taught rather than believing in my strength
  2. Q3. (1 Samuel 16:13) What is the significance of Samuel anointing David? It signifies God's approval, and spiritually, to sanctify and empowered him for service . Also it designates him politically as the soon to be king. What is the significance of the Holy Spirit coming upon David? Empowerment to do what God has called him to do. He is to be an effective and efficient leader depending on God's leading. How does this explain his success? He carried the presence of the Lord, which granted him wisdom, and understanding, counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He depended on God for his decisions and judgement before making pursuits (Proverbs 3:5-6). He sought God after his failures and weaknesses. a man after God's own heart. He was quick to repent. How is the Holy Spirit upon us vital for our own success as disciples? The Holy Spirit let us be bold no more a slave to fear, the Holy Spirit help us in time of our weaknesses, help us discern, teaches us, help us to walk righteously broke the yoke of bondage. Without Him, we can do nothing.
  3. Q2. (1 Samuel 16:3-12) How does this story teach us the importance of listening carefully to God's voice? It shows that we can only see through human eyes which does not reveal the heart. It teaches us to be obedient to God and listen to Him because we will allow "self" to make the wrong decision. Remember God is all knowing. What is our instinctive way of discerning? We look on outer appearance How is God teaching us to discern? Showing that it is the heart He searches and not the outer appearance. How do we learn to listen to the Spirit? Study, pray, and listen for that small still voice.
  4. What is rebellion? This is going against authority. God is our Ruler/King He is in charge, has given a command, therefore it should be carried out just has he said. Not doing what we think is the way, we therefore disobey God's instructions. In what way is rebellion as bad as witchcraft or occult practices? You think you have power and authority to control things and people, you believe you are a god. This is sin What does rebellion have to do with arrogance? one feel that they are superior, self worth and self importance. we depend on our self instead of God, its all about self and no one else matter. What can we do when we find rebellion against God in our hearts? We are to repent and seek forgiveness. God will hear you has you earnestly seek Him through prayer and fasting. What happens if we do nothing? Our hearts will be harden and evil will take us over and finally drift away from God.
