Q4. The Self-Centered Leader
millie replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. Walking in Love (2 and 3 John)
Q4. (3 John 9-10) What character flaws does Diotrephes exhibit? Can a person be a strong pastoral leader without developing these traits? If you have tendencies in yourself towards pride and a controlling spirit, how can you fight against them? Both the heart and mouth must be watched. The temper and spirit of Diotrephes was full of pride and ambition. It is bad not to do good ourselves; but it is worse to hinder those who would do good. Those cautions and counsels are most likely to be accepted, which are seasoned with love. Follow that which is good, for he that doeth good, as delighting therein, is born of God. Evil-workers vainly pretend or boast acquaintance with God. Let us not follow that which is proud, selfish, and of bad design, though the example may be given by persons of rank and power; but let us be followers of God, and walk in love, after the example of our Lord. -

Q4. Keep Yourself from Idols
millie replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7. God's Testimony Regarding Jesus (1 John 5:1-21)
Q4. (1 John 5:21) Why does John exhort his "children" to "keep yourselves from idols"? What idols distract us from the true God? What idols compete with God for attention in your life? The Son leads believers to the Father, and they are in the love and favour of both; in union with both, by the indwelling and working of the Holy Spirit. Happy are those to whom it is given to know that the Son of God is come, and to have a heart to trust in and rely on him that is true! May this be our privilege; we shall thus be kept from all idols and false doctrines, and from the idolatrous love of worldly objects, and be kept by the power of God, through faith, unto eternal salvation. To this living and true God. -
The Spirit of God is the Spirit of Love. God loved us so much that he gave His only Son to die for our sins. If God dwells in us and we in Him we will always feel the love of God in us.

Q3. Don't Love the World
millie replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Don't Love the World (1 John 2:7-17)
Q3. (1 John 2:15-16) What is "the world" in verses 15-16? What kind of love of "the world" keeps us from loving the Father? The world drains the heart from God. The more the love of the world prevails the more the love of God decays. In the world we find of the flesh, of the eyes, and of The pride of life. With out constant watching and prayer we can not escape the world or obtain victory over the devil. The things of the world quickly fade and die away. But the love of God shall never fail. -
