Faith is a GIFT of God by His love for us. Before we "knew" Him, He loved us and bestowed on us that gift that enables us to love Him. There is nothing more foundational when it comes to faith. We may not "feel" as though He loves us or is close to us, but by the mere presence of faith, His love is demonstrated as we could not have it otherwise.
