Q9. Discrimination
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Forsaking Favoritism for Love (James 2:1-13)
I tend to discriminate against those that are able to work and are not and living of welfare. I can’t think of any kind of person that our church or that I am trying to make a good impression on. But I know that isn’t true because I have a blind side and can’t see what others see. -
Q8. True Religion
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Hearing and Practicing the Word (James 1:18-27)
James makes taming the tongue a test because he knows that what it puts out there can never be retrieved. So if our tongue is tame, that is the test of pure religion. He put caring for the poor as a prime test because it indicates that we are not selfish. Our quiet time and worship is for our own good and it helps us to see what God wants. -
Q7. Perfect Law
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Hearing and Practicing the Word (James 1:18-27)
The “perfect law” that James mentions is to love you neighbor as yourself. We are to help those that have a need. The perfect law is the ‘royal law”. It brings liberty because we can be with others in peace. -
Q6. Self-Deceit
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Hearing and Practicing the Word (James 1:18-27)
I think the reason that I am fooled into thinking that listening to Bible teaching means that I am living out a righteous live is because I have the word of God in me. But having the word of God in me doesn’t mean that I am practicing what I know. Self-deception is thinking I am doing things the right way when in reality I am not. -
Q5. Life in the Word
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Hearing and Practicing the Word (James 1:18-27)
We were given a spiritual birth when we accepted Jesus Christ as our savior. The Bible tells is that this is true by the “word of the truth.” In order to maintain the spiritual live we have to be in the Word. -
Q4. Wisdom
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Experiencing Joy in Trials (James 1:1-18)
The promise to claim in verse 5 is we ask God He will give us wisdom. The condition attached to this promise is we must believe and not doubt. In a trial we seem to get single minded and by the end of the trial he have received this wisdom. -
Q3. Doublemindedness
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Experiencing Joy in Trials (James 1:1-18)
In order to get out of our trials we have to be single minded and focus on the trial. This is what helps us to be cured from “doublemindedness”. That is what makes us grow in our faith if we ask God for help in the trial. -
Q2. Blaming God
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Experiencing Joy in Trials (James 1:1-18)
I guess that people blame God for evil because they don’t know who to blame. Since we know that God is everywhere it must be his fault that the evil is on us. God never tempts us with evil. He has allowed sinful people to live with evil but he does not tempted them. To allow people to sin is the free will that He has given us. He may allow evil to exist to refine us. -
Q1. Value of Trials
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Experiencing Joy in Trials (James 1:1-18)
The value that my trials have had in my life is it makes me think twice before I act. It also makes me take the other persons advice when I am in a trial. I don’t think that Satan had destroyed me with those trials. It has refined me. -
Q66. Ambassadors of Christ
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.2. Prevailing through Prayer (Ephesians 6:18-24)
The nation that has sovereignty over the embassy and it property is the notion that occupying it. The ambassador represents the nation in which they come. There responsibilities is to answer to the nation that they represent. We are also responsible to Christ for the things that we do here on earth. -
Q64. Sharing our Faith
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.2. Prevailing through Prayer (Ephesians 6:18-24)
Paul is an ambassador for Christ and in order to do that he has to be bold or no one would listen to him. Boldness is necessary for war so that we keep on charging even when things look bad. The opposite is to wimp out. If we are bold then we will be effective in spreading the Word. -
Q63. Praying in the Spirit
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.2. Prevailing through Prayer (Ephesians 6:18-24)
Prayer is vital to spiritual warfare because we are always being bombarded by the evil one and only the Spirit can help us to battle this enemy. To “pray in the Spirit” means that the Spirit is with us when we pray and is changing our moans and grunts into words for God. -
It is important to have our “shield” up each day because the evil one is attacking us each day. The “helmet of salvation” protects our brains so that we know what is true and false. The “sword of the Spirit” is both an offensive and defensive weapon. It is kept sharp and ready for battle when we study the Bible.

Q61. Good News
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.1. Wrestling with the Enemy of Our Souls (Ephesians 6:10-18)
The characteristic of a person who didn’t have his feet ready to run with the Gospel is one that would stumble and fall. Heart preparation makes me ready to share the Good News with those around me because I want them to be able to go to heaven. -
The reason that simple things like truth and personal holiness is such a powerful armament is because we can see what is going on and we can ask God to help protect is from such thing. I think that they are both defensive and offensive weapons because we will be able to fight off their evil desires.

Q59. Stand
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.1. Wrestling with the Enemy of Our Souls (Ephesians 6:10-18)
I think that it is difficult to stand our ground in today’s world is because there seem to be more evil thing happening every day. Even some of our churches are becoming evil. When we maintain our bible studies and continually call on God to help us. We can then be considered victorious. The saints in Revelation were considered victorious over the devil because of the blood of Jesus. -
Q58. The Demonic
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 7.1. Wrestling with the Enemy of Our Souls (Ephesians 6:10-18)
I think that the reason that we don’t believe in the devil and demons is because we don’t talk about them anymore. We have put it out of our minds. Since we don’t think that they exist then we humans are really struggling because we aren’t getting to the root cause of our problems. The only way we stand a chance is because we have a greater God then them. -
Q53. Christ Our Husband
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6.1. Christian Husbands and Christian Wives (5:21-33)
The sense that Christ is our Husband as individuals is that we are trying to obey Him. We know that He will take care of us. Same with the church, He is always watching out for the Church. We can live a happy lives knowing that Jesus has our back. Christ is always responsible to us even though we are not always responsible to Him. -
Q52. One Flesh
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6.1. Christian Husbands and Christian Wives (5:21-33)
I have always find that if I can take care of a person’s needs than that person will take care my needs. You can than live together in a loving and caring way. -
Q51. Husbands
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6.1. Christian Husbands and Christian Wives (5:21-33)
It does not mean to be the head of the wife is being boss of her. We you married to become one and that means that you are to take care of each other. Being the head means making the final decisions on matters that are important. The example husbands are to follow in leadership is Jesus Christ.
