  1. Jesus did miracles by the means of the power of the Holy Spirit. This is important because we also have the Holy Spirit in us and that means we can do things that would be impossible for humans to do. Jesus serves as our example in ministry by leaning on the Holy Spirit.
  2. The statement that Jesus said “the Son can do nothing by himself” indicates that the relationship with the Father is perfect and that he depends of the Father for guidance. We are to follow Jesus because he did “empty himself” from his heavenly glory so that we could follow him. If he didn’t we would not be able to follow him because he would still be God and we are not gods.
  3. The Holy Spirit came upon Jesus when he was being baptized. I think that the Holy Spirit established my core identity as a disciple of Jesus when I was baptized. It helps me to keep on the straight and narrow.
  4. The promises we find in Joel and Ezekiel is that the Holy Spirit will be poured down on us.
  5. God promised that the Messiah would have the Holy Spirit in him. They were fulfilled when Jesus came down here to earth.
  6. It took the Spirit to enable the 70 Elders to lead the people. When the Spirit came upon them they were able to prophesy and they were able to help Moses. Moses longed for the Spirit to come upon all God’s people because then his work would be reduced.
  7. The purpose that God put his Spirit onto selected individuals was to accomplish the things that needed to be done. It would bring the person that had received the Holy Spirit closer to God.
  8. I think that the death that we are talking about is to be martyred for you belief. I hope that my life will bring more people to Jesus and when I die it will be a credit to God. This passage teaches us that God does know what is going to happen.
  9. Jesus repeated the question and the assurance three times because Peter had denied him three times. The repeating of the lessons means that Jesus really wants us to learn what he is teaching. This means that if we repent our sins that he will restore us sinners to ministry.
  10. Jesus was always showing his love especially to the disciples so for him to cook them a breakfast was just another way of showing it. They knew that he could provide because he had shown that many time while he was with him. Peter was excited to see Jesus just like a friend that he hadn’t seen in a while.
  11. Jesus knew that he was going to perform a miracle and wanted the disciples to be involved in it. The disciples probably obeyed because they thought why not they hadn’t caught anything all night so might as well try what the man on the shore told them. The disciples realized that it was Jesus and they came in to hug him.
  12. John decided to include in his Gospel the things that would make you believe in Jesus and that it would lead to eternal life. Then he thought it should be included in his gospel. The purpose of his Gospel is to lead you to believe in Jesus Christ and to have eternal life. John differentiates between believing and having life because we have to believe before we can have life.
  13. I think that Thomas was so stubborn about believing that Jesus was raised from the dead is because it hadn’t been done before. He may not have believed what Jesus had been telling them about his death and resurrection and didn’t want to be fooled. I think that he was probably embarrassed because he was so wrong and had stood so strong about his unbelief. Thomas’s confession is verse 28 is declaring that Jesus is God. Jesus’ blessed those in the future for believing in him and not seeing him.
  14. I think that if we confess our sins to the Church they will pray for us but I don’t think that anybody has the authority to forgive or declare it except our mediator Jesus Christ.
  15. I think that Jesus’ commissioning of the disciples was so closely linked with his giving of the Holy Spirit is because I don’t think that disciples would have been able to achieve what they did without it. Jesus is sending the Holy Spirit to help and protect the disciples so they don’t turn away from Jesus. I don’t know why the Holy Spirit tends to be neglected and misunderstood in our day but I can see the results of this neglect. Just look what has happen in the United States and everybody falling away from Jesus.
  16. The relationship between the way the Father sent Jesus and how Jesus sends us is that the Father sent his son and gave him His personal message as an example to follow. The way that Jesus sends us is to try to mimic him in what he has done.
  17. We know that the relationship of Jesus’ physical body to his spiritual body is that it was kind of the same. The only difference that we could see is that he could walk through walls. He was resurrected bodily.
  18. The evidences for the resurrection presented in this passage is the personal witness of Mary, Peter, and John that the tomb was empty, you have the grave clothes. Mary talked to Jesus after his resurrection. If it weren’t for the resurrection we would have nothing to look for. This life would be all that there is.
  19. Mary’s emotional state prior to recognizing Jesus was distraught and was looking for Jesus’ body. Jesus probably told her not to “hold on” to him because she had an errand to do. She was to tell the others what she had seen.
  20. I think that the significance of the presence and position of the grave clothes in the tomb means that Jesus got out of the grave clothes some way and didn’t disturb them. He had a new body and he could go through walls so I don’t think the getting out of the grave clothes was even a challenge. I think that it was difficult for Peter to believe that Jesus had risen because he took him as an ordinary man that had extra ordinary powers.
  21. Mary Magdalene was single, she had seven demons in her and she was sick. I don’t know why a woman was given the honor of seeing the risen Christ first. I know that the bible says it happened it doesn’t give a reason for why happened.
  22. Joseph and Nicodemus were disciples of Jesus only they were secret disciples. It probably was good that they were “secret disciples” because they had the means to give Jesus a decent burial. The burial account is important to Jesus’ story because we know for sure that Jesus had died on the cross.
  23. I think that the Father had mercy on him after all that he went through to save us. The bible says that the water and blood flowing from Jesus’ side indicated that he was dead. This fulfilled scripture because he had no broken bones.
  24. Jesus was saying that his work here on earth was finished. He had finished what he was sent here to do. He was here to show us the truth and to give us a way to eternal life. He completed them by dying on the cross.
  25. I suppose that Jesus’ mother Mary if feeling very sad at the cross. Her son is being crucified and is dying. Jesus, being the first born, was responsible for his mother’s wellbeing and John was his favorite disciple therefore he asked him to take care of his mother. Jesus is always putting other people’s problems before himself.
