Q2. Loving Your Life
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 22. The Hour Has Come to Be Glorified (John 12:23-50)
It means that we are willing to give up on our way and follow Jesus fully. The word “love” in this verse means that we will only do what benefits us. The word “hate” in this this verse means that we will follow Jesus no matter what it takes. Jesus lived this out in the Garden of Gethsemane when he told God “not my will but yours”. -
Q1. Glorified in Death
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 22. The Hour Has Come to Be Glorified (John 12:23-50)
God’s glory can be revealed even in Jesus’ death because the people will pick up on his ministry. Then there will be more than one person spreading the word. When we dye to our old life which means that we were watching out for ourselves this will expand into watching out for those around us. -
Judas objected to Mary’s extravagant act of devotion because he wanted the money that spent on the perfume could have been put into the treasury that he was keeping. Jesus defended her because he knew that he didn’t have much longer to live and Mary was worshipping Jesus before he was to be crucified. It teaches that we need to worship whenever we have an opportunity to do so.

Q6. Strategic Retreat
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
Jesus withdrew to Ephraim to stay out of the way of the Jews. This did not show fear just wisdom in what Jesus was doing. A strategic retreat means that we can still go doing what God wants us to be doing. -
Q5. Caiaphas' Prophecy
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
Caiaphas intended to say that it was better for Jesus to die for the nation then for all Israel to perish. The prophetic meaning of his statement was that Jesus is going to die for our sins. -
Q4. Jesus Wept
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
I think that Jesus was “deeply moved” because of the unbelief of the people that were around him. He wept because he couldn’t get them to believe him. -
Q3. Martha's Confession
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
Martha’s reputation compared to that of her sister Martha is that of a busybody and Mary is one that is sitting with Jesus and listening to him. Martha’s confession shows that she really believes in Jesus. They both showed that they are spiritual it is just they showed it in different ways. -
Q2. Resurrection and Life
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
The sense that Jesus embody resurrection is when he told Martha that Lazarus is going to be resurrected. He embodies life when he says that if we are spiritually living for him then we will die but not see death. This is the great promise that we will live eternally if we believe in him. -
Q1. Faith of Thomas
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 20. I Am the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:1-54)
Verse 16 teaches us that Thomas was a brave person and wanted to be with Jesus no matter what happens. -
Q4. Protecting the Sheep
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 19. I Am the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-42)
In the world of shepherds, wolfs, thieves, and anything that wanted to devour them would try to “snatch” them. The devil would try to “snatch” a Christian if he could. Jesus has promised that nobody can snatch his sheep from his hand. I know that no one can snatch me from the Masters hand. -
Q3. Laying Down His Life
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 19. I Am the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-42)
The “good shepherd” is different than a hired shepherd when in danger because the good shepherd would stand and protect his sheep. The hired shepherd would probably run off and protect his own life. Jesus, the Good Shepherd “laid down his life for the sheep” when died for our sins. -
Q2. Abundant Life
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 19. I Am the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-42)
I think that “abundant life” would be like living without fear of people robbing and murdering us and we are all getting along together. The way that Christian life can be an “abundant” life is that we know who we belong to and we know where we are going when it is all over. Therefore we can live life to its fullness and not fear those who want to hurt us. I don’t think that life for an unbeliever can be more “abundant,” free, and fun because they are always thinking that they are not good enough.I think that “abundant life” would be like living without fear of people robbing and murdering us and we are all getting along together. Q4. Spiritual Blindness
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 18. Healing Blindness (John 9:1-41)
I think that the Pharisees were responsible for their hard hearts and spiritual blindness. They knew the scriptures but chose the ignore them. They liked the rules that they had generated because that made the look great. Spiritual blindness is caused by believing in the gods of the age by letting their gods blind them. Yes, Pharaoh was responsible for his blindness. -
Q3. Believing in Jesus
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 18. Healing Blindness (John 9:1-41)
I think that Jesus went looking for the man because he probably sensed that he was in trouble with the Pharisees and wanted to console him. The blind man was open to the man that had healed him because he knew that he was at least a prophet or better and that the only way that he could have been healed was by God. He needed somebody to inform him who the man was that he could heal and willing to learn more about him. -
Q2. Methods of Healing
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 18. Healing Blindness (John 9:1-41)
I think that Jesus healed in different ways to show that it wasn’t the method he used it was the message that he was trying to emulate. He was trying to show that it is the Father who is really the one healing. I think that the Father was leaving it up to Jesus to use the method he thought would bring the message. I think that is always important to seek God’s guidance in how we should minister to a person. We don’t know exactly what the person is going through and we could say or do something wrong. -
Q1. Cause of Affliction
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 18. Healing Blindness (John 9:1-41)
Sin is not always the cause of sickness or affliction. Some of the good that comes out of the sickness and afflictions of godly people is people are praying for them, it causes us to show compassion, and it might bring people closer together. -
Q6. Before Abraham, I AM
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
I think that Jesus’ statement of “Before Abraham was, I am” is saying that Jesus has always been and he will always be with us. John 1:1-5 also states the Jesus has always been with the Father. -
Q5. Father of Lies
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
This verse teaches that the devil is a liar. He will try to deceive all that he can. This tells us that those who don’t tell us the truth are liars and they are from the devil. A habitual liar is from the devil. -
Q4. Slaves to Sin
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
The way that sin enslaves a person is that we do things that we don’t want to because of sin. The only way to get out of the bondage is to have Jesus help us. Knowing the truth of the bible will direct us on how to use Jesus to help get rid of the sin. The son sets us free by helping us get rid of our sins. The only way that you can get out of a habitual sin is to turn to Jesus. -
Q3. Continue in My Word
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
The mark of a “real” disciple is that we believe in Jesus and we do what he wants us to. To “continue in Jesus’ word is to continue in the study of the Bible. The truth that is in the Bible is what will set us free. The difference in the secular content of the truth will set you free and the Bible is that in secular world if you speak the truth that will set you free but the bible is saying if you believe in Jesus that will set you free. -
Q2. Die in Your Sin
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
To die in our sins means that you don’t have anybody to stand up for you on the judgment day and that you will not be in the presence of God for eternity. The only way that I know for an enemy of Jesus to speak with the Savior from sin without receiving forgiveness is because he doesn’t believe is him. -
Q1. Light of the World
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 17. Truth that Sets You Free (John 8:12-59)
Jesus is the Light of the World in that he can go to God and have our sins forgiven. He shows us the way to heaven. Jesus promised us that he will be our light. That means that we should be trying to follow Jesus’ example.
