I think the assurance I have that I will be physically resurrected rather than experience disembodied immortality is that when Jesus returned after being in the grave for three days He had a body. One that everyone that knew and recognized Him. Then there was the transfiguration when John and Peter recognized those people. Since Jesus is the “first fruits” and “firstborn” from the dead that means there will be more and I will be one of those.

Q4. Compelling Proofs
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Convincing Proofs of Christ's Bodily Resurrection
The proof for the resurrection that is most compelling to me is the disciples were martyred because they knew that Jesus had been raised from the grave. I don’t know of any person that would be willing to die for a lie that they were perpetrating. I think that I could explain why I am sure that Jesus was raised from the dead. -
Q2. The Theft Theory
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Convincing Proofs of Christ's Bodily Resurrection
The only motive that the disciples might have had to take Jesus’ body was to prove that He was resurrected. But then there would have the problem of them being martyred for a lie and I don’t think they would have done that. There would have been no motive for the Roman soldiers to take the body nor the Jews nor Joseph of Arimathea. The Jews were the ones that wanted a guard put on the grave to prevent the body from being stolen. -
They feel that they have to explain away the bodily resurrection of Jesus because their belief system won’t accept something that they can’t explain. They would try to claim that it is unhistorical more than some other events in the first century because that was the most important thing that has ever happen. If they can explain that away then they can act any way that they want to and still claim to be religious.

When Jesus was resurrected people saw Him and were able to talk to Him. But on his ascension we went to be in His rightful place beside the Father in heaven. The two fit together because Jesus wandered the earth for 40 days to show that we had conquered death. After He did that he ascended to the Father in heaven.

The way that I account for the differences in eyewitness testimony is that everybody doesn’t see the same thing even though they all witness the same event. I find that is true when I talk to my kids about the childhood. They remember things different then I do but we were all there for the experience. So these differences do add to the credibility of the witness because we can see that it wasn’t a rehearsed story.

Jesus’ enemies heeded his prediction of being raised on the third day because they thought that the disciples were going to take the body and claim that He rose. They didn’t want this deception to go out because it would draw more people to Jesus. His enemies might not have believed that He would rise but neither did his followers.

Q1. Job's Vision of Resurrection
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. The Promise of Resurrection from the Dead
I don’t think that the Jews thought that there was a resurrection. In the early parts of the Bible it isn’t talked about. But now in Job’s vision of the resurrection it brings up what is call the progressive revelation. -
When people think of spending an eternity in heaven, I think they look forward to being with Jesus. Of course they want to see their relatives but most of all the want to see Jesus. It means they he will the King of Kings and we will be with Him forever.

Q4. Refiner and Purifier
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Jesus the Risen King of Glory
Jesus purifies and refines his church by the way that we believe in Him. If a person doesn’t believe in the gospel then they will probably leave or not come at all. He purifies and refines us by the troubles that we sometimes go through. If we believe in him, we can give our troubles to Him and let Him carry them for us. On the Day that fire tests our deeds the only thing that will remain will be our salvation. We do deeds because we love Jesus and it has nothing to do with salvation. -
Q3. Heir of All Things
Old Jerry replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Jesus the Risen King of Glory
Jesus is the “Heir of All Things” because he was the first to be resurrected. So if we follow Jesus and know that He is the only way to heaven, then we will also be heirs with him. We possess all things because Jesus possessed all thing and we are co-heirs with Christ
