Q19. Selfishness vs. Humility
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 5. Attaining Tongue-Taming Wisdom (James 3:1-18)
If you are humble, you give God the credit for the good things you do. If you are filled with envy and ambition, you think you can do it all by yourself. You must admit to yourself that God is the only one in charge. -
Q6. Self-Deceit
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 2. Hearing and Practicing the Word (James 1:18-27)
We want everything to be easy. But we must realize that listening is not enough. Action and faith are required...maybe in the other order. -
Q4. The Self-Centered Leader
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 8. Walking in Love (2 and 3 John)
He is taking over. He does not want anyone to point out where he is wrong. This can happen but doesn't have to ,The leader must remain humble and focussed on the will of God. -
Q1. The Spirit of Murder
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 5. Love in Action (1 John 3:11-24)
Cain resented Abel seeming to be more favoured. He got angry and jealous. We must realize that if we do what is right all the time(Well as best we can) others will be upset. -
Q2. The Purifying Hope
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. Sin Is Lawlessness (1 John 2:28-3:10)
We must be ready at any time for the second coming..so we had best try to overcome our sinful ways and ask forgiveness often. By God's grace, we will be forgiven. -
Q4. Abiding in Jesus
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Antichrists, Anointing, and Abiding (1 John 2:18-27)
We must pray, read scripture and other Christian writing, meet with other Christians...always keep Jesus in our day to day life. When we get too busy with the things of this world..our daily grind...we do not abide in Jesus and He in us. -
Q1. Antichrists
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Antichrists, Anointing, and Abiding (1 John 2:18-27)
The anti-christ at the end of the world will be more obvious than the little ones that creep into everyday life..but perhaps not much more dangerous to our souls. We must be on the alert, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to decern the true followers of Christ and listen to them only. This is not easy. -
Q5. Legalism vs. Love
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Walking in the Light (1 John 1:1-2:6)
We must always love first. We must be humble and sincere. It is not just the rules, but the spirit of the rules and how we apply them Rememer that God id in control and God loves each of us. -
Q4. Assurance
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Walking in the Light (1 John 1:1-2:6)
Jesus will intercede for us. He has dided to wah away our sins. But it grieves God and Jesus when we sin, so we must honestly try not to. -
Q3. Confession
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Walking in the Light (1 John 1:1-2:6)
As a Catholic, I find confessing to the priest is very good for me even though it is a hard thing to do. I have to face the truth of what I have done and what I have failed to do. It makes me stop and think. I also ask God's forgiveness on a regular basis, whenever I catch myself doing something against His teaching. That is pretty often. and I think we must honestly try to do better in the future...must keep on trying. If we stop confessing our sins, the bad habits will just seem ordinary after a while. If we confess, we will be forgiven. -
Q1. Christian Fellowship
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 1. Walking in the Light (1 John 1:1-2:6)
We are often reluctant to share our lives at a deep level. With time, we get to know others in our group better and may open up. If one member is brave enough to share at a deeper level, it will encourage others to do the same. I could be that one. -
We should only do things for God and not seek to gain others' favour. We must always think about our motives and try to serve only God. Be quiet and not flashy. Be there to help and to comfort and to be a friend...don't expect praise or even thanks. Sometimes churches get so caught up in pomp and ceremony as well as trying to force people to give more..that they do not encourage people to act out of love..but for show, recognition or fame..

Q2. An Eye for an Eye
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. The Spirit of Truthfulness and Love (5:33-48)
This was to regulate our retaliation. We should leave punishmeant up to the courts and ultimately to God. It does not mean to literally hurt others. -
Q1. Let Your 'Yes' Be 'Yes'
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 6. The Spirit of Truthfulness and Love (5:33-48)
We should say what we mean or intend to do and then keep our word. If we did this, we would live in an honest, trusting world. -
Q2. Sexual Desire
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 4. Adultery, Lust, and the Spirit of Marriage (5:27-30)
We must use our sexual desires only with our spouse. We are one only after our marriage. -
**** is a serious sin.We are to take it seriously...it is practically the same as adultry. It is a mortal sin. Only by God's love and with the help of the Holy Spirit can we resist this sin. We are all guilty at some level...if we haven't done it, we have probably wanted to at some point in our life. We must be truly repentant and acept God's forgiveness.

Q2. Anger and Murder
saskheather replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. The Spirit of the Law and Reconciliation (5:17-26)
Anger is the root of murder. If we do not control our anger, we may get to the point of actual murder.Sometimes angry words can deeply hurt another. I think murder is still worse but anger is not okay. We would try a lot harder to control our anger if we thought it was the same thing as murder. -
We don't hear much about the Old Testament these days but we do know that we must follow the Ten Commmandments. I do not agree with the idea that we are saved by grace and there fore any thing goes. If we are really saved and really believe, then we must try our hardest to live a moral life according to these commandments.
