  1. a. So many times, if we are not in the Word, we think we have to overcome the world in ourselves. We need to stay in the Word and say what God says about us in the Word. If we get it in our heart, it will be there when we need it. b. No it is not less, It is the same. We have the same Holy Spirit. We have the same potential power. Only difference is, He believed it and stepped out in faith. c. What limits our sense of power is our unbelief and fear of people. Talking to me. So, getting into this Bible Study and getting to know what is mine and what God has made available to me and acting on it will make me an overcomer.
  2. a. That the Lord has set His seal of ownership upon us and we belong to Him. b. That He has given us a down payment of His Spirit in our hearts and it is just the down payment with more to come as we grow in Him. c. Full payment, where one day we will see Him face to face and we will live with Him for all eternity. d. The Spirit as an anointing teaches us of the things of God. The anointing equips and sets us apart for service.
  3. a. When I received Christ into my life the Spirit bore witness to me that He came to live in me, that my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, I am His child and He will never leave me or forsake me. Through His Spirit living in us, we have the mind of Christ. 1 Cor. 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. b.Without the Spirit of God we have no Spiritual Gifts. Hebrews 2:4 God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will? I Cor. 12:4 There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. I Cor. 14:1 Let love be your highest goal! But you should also desire the special abilities the Spirit gives--especially the ability to prophesy.
  4. a. No, If a person has not surrendered to the Lord, the Holy Spirit does not reside in them. Romans 8-9b Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. b. Christ and the Father make their home in us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. c. To spend time in their presence in praise, worship and communion with them sharing your innermost thoughts. d. They are both a dwelling place for the Spirit of God. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) e. I am not to sure about how it might differ. In my thinking, we carry the Temple (A house - building or tent) in our body, the outward place - the outer court; Our Spirit (A Home, a place of warmth and love) - the Holy of Holies, a place where the Spirit of God dwells. f. The Spirit in us causes us to love and obey and changes us from glory to glory. "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." (John 14:23) g. Your consciousness and fellowship of Christ in you empowers you to witness to others. h. I have no spiritual power, except by the Spirit of God empowering me.
  5. 4. With the wind you don't know where it comes from or where it is going. You can hear it but can't see it. With the Spirit, you hear the Word of God, can't see it in the atmosphere as it goes out, yet it produces faith in a person, faith to believe and be born again. (Galatians 3:2 ) This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? By having the Spirit of God in us, gives us understanding of the Word of God, guidance, discernment, hearing God's voice and having fellowship with Him.
  6. a. When I was born again, I was desperate in a situation I was in. I went to a friend in Florida. The Lord met me with prevenient grace, as someone told me about the Lord and I totally surrendered myself and my family to Him. It was revealed to me that I had some fault in the marriage. I had a Catholic upbringing and saw Jesus as dead on the cross and not really alive anymore. I Thought of the devil as, in a little red suit, and that is all. I had no help, no hope, I was alone in this. The Lord revealed Himself to me and I was delivered and set free. I believe at that moment on 10/10/72 , I was washed from my sin and born of the Spirit. The next morning as I awoke I sensed God's presence and a glow in my inner being, the Spirit of God was alive, living inside of me, loved me and will never leave me or forsake me. b. I believe water refers to being washed of your sin. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. (I Cor. 6:11). c. Surrender to God, brings New Life for old. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 At that moment your are washed of your sins and born of the Spirit.
  7. a. No, Nicodemus was not born of the Spirit when he came to Jesus. He was a Pharisee but was curious to know Jesus, seeing the miracles Jesus performed, he knew that God was with him. b. Difference between people who have experienced: 2nd birth - Access to Salvation, deliverance, healing, relationship with God, understanding of the Word of God, God's love, the Spirit of God lives inside of us as we are the temple of the Holy Ghost, God's presence, help, hope, joy, peace, righteousness, faith, etc., and eternity with God and a new heavenly body free of sickness and disease. 1st birth - Natural, born in sin, original sin of Adam and Eve, sickness and disease, no understanding of the Word of God, addictions, no way out of their mess, etc., and eternity without God.
  8. a. Jesus invites all who thirst, those hungry for more, those who think they can do it on their own He says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. b. His promise to believers was that after he died, buried, rose again, resurrected and went to be with the Father, He would send to us, His Holy Spirit to take His place and be in us and that out of our belly shall flow rivers of living water. Love that song also . When needing encouragement, that is the song to sing. There's a river of life flowing out from me..... c. I do notice that when I spend time with the Lord the river does flow freely. I sense His Presence, His joy, a Word from Him comes, His love for me and it flows freely to others, others notice the joy coming from me, He helps, provides, protects and surprises me and on and on, you can't out-give God! He totally satisfies!
  9. a. The Holy Spirit has come and He now reveals Christ to us. He guides us into all truth because He is the Spirit of Truth. As we have surrendered our life to Christ, He comes to abide in us and helps, guides, teaches, encourages, brings to remembrance the Word of God, and songs of encouragement. b. We may not have the task of the first apostles, who helped lay the doctrinal foundation of the Church, but we still seek to understand the Word of God accurately. c. It applies to us today as the Holy Spirit still teaches and guides us. Both Jesus and the Spirit will speak the Father's words to us. We can hear from God by spending time in His presence (intimacy with God) and spending time in the Word and in doing that we are making ourselves willing and available vessels to hear more accurately.
  10. a. The benefit of Jesus going away is that when He goes to the Father, He sends His Holy Spirit (another comforter - Jesus being the first one) to us. The Helper would not be Jesus any more in the flesh but the miracle is that His Holy Spirit will be IN us, leading, guiding, helping, teaching, comforting us. He would be like a friend that sticks closer than a brother. b. The promise that we as believers have is that he now sends us to do the work of God and even greater works because we have the Spirit of God within us and we are in partnership with God. We have the Authority to Go........... He is the Power to do! We have just got to believe the Word and Act on it.
  11. a. The Bible refers to the Holy Spirit as a He (a person). b. Teaching, leading, guiding, comforting, speaking, correcting, helping, working, testifying, grieving, tempting, etc. c. I would not refer to the Spirit as an "it", because when you receive Christ, you receive the person of the Holy Spirit. God is a personal God and has given to us of His Spirit to dwell in us and help, strengthen and encourage us. It is easy for a person who is not born again to refer to the person of the Holy Spirit as an "it", not knowing what He does and not knowing what the Bible says about Him.
  12. a. To tell and witness what we believe. b. The Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus by reminding us of the Word of God and bringing truth to life in us by giving us revelation, wisdom and revealing Jesus to us. c. Yes I know that I know that Christ came into my life when I surrendered to Him. I received the witness of the Spirit and that my life changed. I am a new creation in Christ Jesus. God is my Father and the Holy Spirit my Helper. d. The Apostles had Jesus in the flesh to lead and guide them on earth and that would make them first-hand witnesses, and later Jesus sent them another helper, the Holy Spirit, after His Ascension. I was not around when Jesus was in the flesh, but He made salvation available to all who would receive Him and gives us His Holy Spirit to teach, lead and guide us. So I guess that would make us first-hand witnesses also because He lives in us and you can't get any closer than that and the Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to us, His wonder and His love and of the ongoing treasure He is.
  13. a. The Holy Spirit was to be another helper, counselor, comforter. b. The initial Paraclete was Jesus who was with them on earth to help, teach, and guide them. c. The Holy Spirit, since Jesus went to be with the Father, was to be nearer to them than Jesus was....to be "In" them. d. He, Jesus, was with the disciples here on earth, before He died on the cross. e. After Jesus died, resurrected and ascended to heaven to be with the Father, He sent His Holy Spirit to them to be "in" them.
  14. a & b. John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 3:16 16John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: c. It does not matter because Father, Son and the Holy Ghost are the three in one, in unity and all agree and work together.
  15. a. By means of the power of the Holy Spirit upon him. b. Because by Jesus example we are to minister in the same way through the power of the Holy Spirit. c. In Jesus we see a Man who lives fully in the Holy Spirit. He is God, yet he has laid aside his heavenly glory and prerogatives to operate in our midst as a Man. In doing so he shows us how we can minister by the Holy Spirit that has been poured out on us.
  16. a. He was totally dependent upon the Father's direction through the power of the Holy Spirit. b. He had to empty himself totally and become a servant so that he could show us how to humble ourselves and be submitted in obedience to God being dependent on the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us.
  17. a. Mary - The Holy Ghost overshadowing Mary and telling her that the child being born unto her is the Son of God, Joseph - The angel of the Lord appearing unto Joseph in a dream telling him not to fear because the child Mary conceived is of the Holy Ghost. in Jesus Baptism - The Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus and a voice from heaven said, this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased. b. The Witness of the Spirit and that my body is The Temple of the Holy Ghost, Christ in me, the Hope of Glory, Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me, I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me and the life that I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
  18. a. Promises: Joel: That God will pour out his spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Ezekiel: A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. b. Recipients: Whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
  19. a.Promises: Isaiah 11:1-2 The royal line of David[a] will be cut off, chopped down like a tree; but from the stump will grow a Shoot—yes, a new Branch* from the old root. 2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, and might; the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 42:1 My servant, my chosen one, in whom I delight. I have put my Spirit upon him, he will reveal justice to the nations of the world. b. Fullfillment: Jesus - Luke 4:18The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,19To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
  20. a. The Holy Spirit. b. They can prophesy. c. Because if the Spirit came on all God's people they can prophesy, all speak the Word of God and be led by the Spirit of God.
  21. a. God put His Spirit upon them, as he was enabling them to do what he called them to do - the work of God giving them talents, abilities, to lead, guide, deliver, prophesy. b. It brings intimacy and draws them closer to God, with them knowing that it is the Spirit of God doing the work in them.
  22. a.) To make sure you're on the right track. b.)Having a spiritually mature person who seeks God as a mentor is helpful for "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety." (Proverbs 11:14, ESV) c.) The danger is, we will never grow as a Christian, the Holy Spirit leads and guides. Trust Him, it will be like a GPS, if you are going the wrong way He will correct you. d.) We out grow mentors because we grow up in discerning the voice of God. We have a witness in our spirit. He leads and guides.
  23. a.) Because we need to discuss with God what our desires are and then humbly submit them to Him, letting Him know that we want His will in the situation. b.) If we neglect to do this it will be our will instead of His. It will not work out well and no fruit will come of it. c.) If we hold on to sin, God will not hear us. Unconfessed sin injures our relationship with God and a sin-calloused heart is less able to hear his whispers, detect his nudges, and respond. When we hold onto our sin, it distorts what we might hear from God, because when we hold onto our sins we are prone to justify them -- even against God's clear Word.
  24. a.) Flesh - Oh, you can go ahead and eat 2 or 3 donuts, whatever you want, it won't hurt, you know your want it. Our flesh craves it, but it is not God's will, I am putting my will first (gluttony). The flesh is in control, not the Spirit. b.) World - You can go ahead and live with someone before marriage, there is nothing wrong with in, practically everyone is doing it, young people, old people. c.)devil - All the above and much more are influenced by the devil. He wants to kill, steal and destroy you. d.) Because the Word of God keeps us on track, we need to mediate on the Word, day and night. When we do, we know the truth and will be able to discern where to voice is coming from.
  25. a.) We all make mistakes and we all learn by experience...trial and error, that is how we grow in discerning God's voice. b.) God loves us and knows we will make mistakes. He wants us to mature and grow and to be able to discern His voice Does a little child know how to walk as soon as they are born,? They make mistakes and it is all a part of training and learning.
