The result of false doctrine in the church was causing a lot of discussions on things that were not worth while talking about such as false teachings and myths. The important teaching was God's work , which has everything to do with faith. If everyone is arguing about how important their background is and how far they can go back in their family history going back to one of the tribes of Israel I think that would hurt the spirit of the church especially if you were a Gentile believer. You certainly are not focused on the love of Christ but on yourself. It prevents growth in that the focus in on you being the all important one and not Christ. It keeps the church from it's mission in that if we are centered on ourselves then there is no room for Christ and Christ has to be the reason for our existence.
