  1. Both are trying to encourage those prophesying and those speaking in tongues to love each other by putting the other first. That's part of being kind and not rude. It needs to be done for the strengthening of the church. Those speaking in tongues must have an interpreter. That is very interesting. I have not been a member of a church that has this situation. We could all benefit if this is done correctly. I always thought that those prophesying were pastor/teachers. They don't preach new prophecy, just the Word!
  2. In tongues, the person is speaking to God; God understands but those around us do not. Everyone speaking at the same time and without interpreters.
  3. The person is speaking to the people, rather than speaking to God in tongues. It encourages and edifies. We can't be edified or encouraged if we don't understand what is being said.
  4. We will not be witnesses when Jesus returns. The gifts all have a purpose and when that purpose has been completed they will become obsolete. Love, however, binds us all together with Christ for eternity!!
  5. to me, the perfect is the perfect one--Jesus! When He returns or perhaps if we die before He comes. It will be when we get our earthly body, I think. Our perfection doesn't happen on this earth!! No pure reference--I can't recall one......
  6. Irritability & pride a prayerful life will pave the way walking in the spirit means my eyes are on Jesus, not my self. I need to question my motives.
  7. Nothing! It's possible. Nothing but the Fruit of the Spirit.
  8. It makes the body lame. We all need to minister and be ministered to. It would be wonderful!! What a witness to the unbelieving community!! Much more fruit & changes in towns, villages and cities.
  9. The Holy Spirit gives these gifts to whoever He wants. Everyone has a spiritual gift in the congregation. It is not a means for pride--for selfishly building up of yourself. We need to be fully yielded to God. Gifts are tailor-made for each individual and empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  10. He might have, but I don't think so in any of those listed so far. If someone uses His gift, each member of congregations grow and God is glorified!
  11. Yes, definitely. We take into consideration that He was perfect and we are not, but it is still valuable.
  12. The purpose of spiritual gifts is to build up the body of believers--for common good. It hurts the body. Pride enters and people are not effective witnesses for Christ. The body grows, is alive & fruitful!! Brings glory to God!
  13. By asking God to reveal to us any sinfulness in our lives. To keep short account of them. Confess & repent. It's like looking in a mirror--we see the messy hair and just turn around & leave rather than combing our hair! It is basically unfinished. We become more aware of our sins and seek to live more holy lives. I'll not ever forget the day our pastor began communion, then opted out for himself. He said that the Holy Spirit had shown him something that had gone on with another individual that needed his confession and to right the wrong with that individual.. He didn't go into detail, but between services, took care of the problem by seeking the other person and making things right. He could then participate in communion the next service with a clear conscience.
  14. It proclaims Christ's death on the cross, even to unbelievers who might be present. Believers and unbelievers alike. It shows a unity among believers--showing we all stand on the firm foundation of Jesus Christ, His death, HIs burial & His resurrection. Disunity. A shattered proclamation.
  15. It ratified the covenant He made with us. It made outdated the old covenants with Israel and brought in a new covenant sealed with His blood.
  16. We want to continually be drawn to remember what Christ did for us by dying on the cross. We joyfully remember and tell others. We are following the method Jesus used with His disciples to help them easily remember God's sacrifice of his body and the blood shed for our sins. They represent the body & blood and we participate together with him in His sacrifice.
  17. The point is that that Christian life is WORK! We need to keep our eyes on the goal--On Jesus! Self-discipline, self-control are so important. People are looking at us and watching us since we have said we're Christians. We do not want to spoil our testimony. Self-control, tempered with love for others, will keep us from gross sin. Keep short accounts with God. Lack of self-discipline lines us up to receive the fewest rewards in heaven. We end up being a horrible witness and instead of drawing people to Jesus, we turn them away.....
  18. Paul was out to do one thing--bring as many souls as he could to salvation. He wants to get to know those he is witnessing to in a way they'll be able to understand the gift of salvation. Yes. It was his love for Jesus that let him love the lost. He wasn't pretending to be someone he wasn't.
  19. He knew that was his calling from God--first & foremost. God rewards us according to His will. Doing one thing or another doesn't matter. Just do what the Lord has led you to do and be faithful.
  20. Jesus wanted them to depend wholly upon God for what they needed. He knows & will move others to supply their needs. God wants us to take care of those who serve us. They are totally answerable to God.
  21. Each worker deserves his pay. Money would be something that would detract from the gospel in new believers. God has to move each one of us to support them. God has to move new believers too eventually.
  22. Demons. Who are we connecting ourselves with? Taking part in either case implies complete participation. To use other occultic practices or unholy actions, opens the door for Satan to come in. Who are we connected to & participating with?
  23. The priest who sacrificed the offering also got to eat of it. We, when we take communion, participate by taking the cup & bread and remember what Christ did for us.
  24. Means communion, sharing, participation. When we are members of a body, we need to look around us to see if what we do may hurt someone else. We can't be a participater and commune with Christ as a body and commune, share with others in sacrifices....
  25. We are all sinners tending towards that which comes naturally. We are all tempted. No temptation is not common to man. We can choose to follow our natural instincts or rely on God to bring us through. He knows what we can bear. Jesus has gone through temptations himself, so He understands us and will provide a way out so we can stand up under it.
