  1. Q3. (Ephesians 5:18-20) Q. How is singing worship linked to being filled with the Spirit? How is singing worship linked to joy? A. Singing ignites in us some joy and raises our emotion on higher ground. This is even more so when we are filled with Holy Spirit,, He helps us to sing worship songs to God. This makes us more aware of God's presence and this brings joy to us.
  2. Q2. (2 Corinthians 3:18) Q. Why is character change directly related to time deliberately spent in God's presence? A. The more we spend time relating with the Lord God Almighty in fellowship that include worship, meditation on Who He is, we are transformed into His likeness in character and attitude Q. Have you noticed a change in the "degree of glory" you're experiencing now compared to a few years ago? Why or why not? A. Yes. My attitude and character is gradually being transformed to Christ likeness as I spend more time with Him studying His word and meditating in in His word.
  3. Q1. (John 15:1-8) Q. Why do we need to abide in Jesus? A. So that we can bear much fruits that last. Q. The fruit from branches connected to a vine is the grape. What is the nature of the fruit that comes from being connected to Jesus? A. The fruit is that which produces Christ character and life style - the fruit of the Holy Spirit. This is indicated by love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control. Q. Is it accurate to define fruit as "souls saved"? What is the danger in this definition? A. I don't think so and I don't really know why.
  4. Q4. (1 Samuel 3:1-10) Q. Why is Samuel's servant attitude such an important preparation for hearing God's voice? A. Samuel servant attitude involves listening and obeying what he is asked to do. This opens way for God to reveal more to him and to us if do like he did. Q. Why is surrender to Jesus such an important element of discipleship? A. Surrender to Jesus mean total willingness to listen and obey what is required of us. This makes God to reveal Himself more to us and to use us more.
  5. Q3. Q. How would you differentiate between (1) the Spirit's voice and (2) the Spirit nudge or prompting? A. The Spirit nudge is a prompting that may come in bits of instructions or answers while the spirit voice is a clear audible communication from God that conveys information/ directive Q. What can you do to sensitize yourself to His voice and promptings A. Create time for a closer relationship with Him through quality quiet time involving reading/ meditation and listening to him to give me a nudge or speak clearly.
  6. Q2. (1 Corinthians 2:9-11, 16) Q. What connects us to the mind of Christ? A. The Holy Spirit is the connection between the mind God and our mind. Q. Do you have a regular Quiet Time? A. Yes but it can be better particularly in the area of listening to the Lord God Almighty. Q. What could you do to make it more meaningful? A. I have regular quiet time that is mainly focused on reading my bible and the devotional commentaries. I will now try to devout more time to praying and listening to Him.
  7. Q1. (Mark 1:33-39) Q. What pattern do you see emerging in Jesus' prayer life? A. He creates time to be alone to communicate with the Father Q. Why do you think he spends Quiet Time with the Father before the day begins? A. He wants absolute uninterrupted/ undisturbed communication with Him. He also is teaching us same principle. Q. How does this prepare him for his ministry? A. This enables Him to hear from the Father what to do and when to do it. Q. Why does Jesus minister through the power of the Spirit instead of in his own power? A. He wants to ensure that whatever he does is divinely given to him from above as He depended on God for every thing He does while here on earth

  9. Q4. (1 Peter 4:10-11) Q. If people are always promoting themselves and pointing to how God is using them, what does that say about them? A. They are taking the glory for themselves instead of ascribing it to God. Q. their sense of self-worth? About their maturity? A. They are immature and consider themselves very important and special. Q.Their realism? A. Not realistic. Q. Their humility? A. Proud, not humble. Q. What spiritual gifts has God given you, and how are you using them to his glory? A. I think God has given the spiritual gifts of teaching, wisdom, administration (some people tell me that). I use these in church, work place and at home.
  10. Q3. (1 Corinthians 12:11) Q. What are lessons do you learn from verse 11? A. God gives the different gifts of the spirit to individuals as He deems fit for the edification of the church Q. What is the role of the Holy Spirit in spiritual gifts? A. He (the Holy Spirit) conveys certain abilities to individuals to perform certain functions for the benefit of the church, the body of Christ.
  11. Q2. (1 Corinthians 12:9) Q. In the twentieth century we saw the evangelistic power of preaching combined with healing the sick. Where in Jesus' ministry do you see this combination? A. There are several instances Jesus healed the sick in the process of His evangelical journeys/ teachings. One of such instances was the healing of the 10 lepers as he entered a certain village (Luke 17:12-16. We are also told in Matthew 9:35 (NIV) that "Jesus went through all the towns and villages teaching in the synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every diseases and sicknesses". Q. Where in Paul's ministry? A. In Acts 19:11-12 (NIV) we are told that "God did extraordinary miracles through Paul so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick and their illness were cured and evil spirits left them" In Peter's ministry? We are told in Acts 5:15 that "..more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number. As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter's shadow might fall on some as he passed by. In Philip's ministry? In Acts 8:5ff reports that "Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there... crowds heard .. saw signs he performed... with shrieks, impure spirits came out of many, and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed...
  12. Q1. Q. Is it legitimate to use Jesus as our example in the use of spiritual gifts? Or was he so different than we are that we can't pattern our ministry after his example? A. Yes, it is legitimate because we are His disciples that He promised that we could do all that He did and even more by the power of the Holy Spirit, His Spirit. Q. Where do you see the gift of knowledge in the Old Testament? In the New Testament? A. In the Old Testament, I see the gift of knowledge from Abraham when confronted by Isaac on where the lamb for the sacrifice would be found as there was firewood and fire but no lamb. He assured Isaac that God would provide the lamb for the sacrifice and God did exactly that. In the New Testament Jesus Himself, use the words of wisdom when He told the mob of the Pharisees who wanted to stone the woman caught in adultery that any one that was without sin should throw the first stone. No one dared to do so because no one was without sin that could also lead to being stoned.
  13. Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) Q. How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? A. Spiritual gifts are given by God irrespective of whether one has been given an office by the authority that be here on earth. Every one therefore aught to discover his/ her gift and use it at every opportunity he/ she finds even if not given a post./ office. Q. What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? A. Pray for God to send a pastor to the church or pray for God to help the pastor identify gifted pastors in the church that can help him out. Who gives these gifts? A. Please see A part of the answer to the first question above.
  14. Q3. (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22; 1 Corinthians 14) Q. How would you define the gift of prophecy? A. Having the spiritual ability to hear a message from God and convey to the target person/ people./ church The message can be a warning or an instruction. Q. Why do churches sometimes despise or prohibit prophecy? A. Because they think and / or believe that there are no more prophets in this era. Q. What guidelines does Paul give here and in 1 Corinthians 14 to keep prophecy in a congregation healthy? A. Paul admonished the church of the need for orderliness in administration of spiritual gifts and the need to evaluate every prophesy before accepting and applying it.
  15. Q2. (Ephesians 4:11a) Q. Do you think there are modern-day apostles? A. By the definition of apostles, yes there are apostles today but they may not necessarily operate exactly the same way the first apostles did. Q. If so, who might they be? A. In Nigeria there are men of God who have established churches within and outside the country. The churches are growing in size and spiritually as the founders administer, teach and perform miracles showing the presence of the power of the Holy Spirit at work in them. Q. If you don't believe there are modern-day apostles, identify some people who are doing some of the same things that the early apostles did. A. I do.
  16. Q1. (1 Corinthians 12:7; Ephesians 4:11) Q. What is the purpose of spiritual gifts according to 1 Corinthians 12:7? A. For the common good of the body of Christ (for the good of all, for the profit of all as in other translations) Q. According to Ephesians 4:11? A. To produce be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers Q. What happens when people don't employ spiritual gifts for their intended purpose? A. The church suffers.
  17. Q4. (Galatians 5:22-23) Q. How does the Holy Spirit produce this fruit in our lives? A. The Holy Spirit influences/ transforms our character to conform with the Divine character to enables us live Godly lives (as against the acts of flesh) Q. What theological term would you use to identify this process? A. The process of changing us towards righteousness by the Holy Spirit is gradual and is called sanctification How can it be that a person who has been a "Christian" for years displays few or none of these fruits? A. The progress made in our spiritual growth depends on our willingness to yield to the transformation work of the Holy Spirit. Thus some can achieve rapid progress while those not so yielding record slow growth. Q. Are they saved, but just immature? What does James 2:17-19 say about this? Is that too harsh? A. Such people are saved but need to grow to maturity growing in both faith and works of righteousness

  19. Q3. (Galatians 5:16-18) Q. How does the Spirit enable us to resist the temptations of the flesh? A. The Holy spirit flashes on the red/ danger signals to us to warn us of danger ahead and if we heed the signal and ask for help to empower us to resit the temptation the we will overcome. Q. How does He restrain us? A. He restrains us by keeping the red danger signal on and empowers us to overcome the temptation. Q. How does he enable us to break the hold the flesh has had over us? A. By giving us the strength/ power to resist the temptation
  20. Q2. (Romans 8:1-9; Isaiah 26:3) Q. What does it mean to "set the mind on the things of the flesh"? A. To have your mind generally thinking and dwelling on earthly or worldly things Q. What is involved in "setting the mind on the things of the Spirit"? A. It is to believe in Christ and be controlled by the Holy Spirit and thus having your mind dwelling mainly on the things that are godly and divine in nature Q. What does it mean to have your mind "stayed" on Jesus? A. To have Jesus be your centre and be controlled by His Spirit and thus think and act on heavenly things/ ways/ acts Q. How much of this requires will-power? A. Even though we surrender our lives to Jesus, He does not force us to do things but rather allow us to provide the willingness to allow His Holy Spirit to guide us in the path of righteousness Q. How much does the Spirit assist us? A. As much we allow him to take charge of us. Q. Can this become a habit as we practice it? A. Yes

  22. Q1. (Romans 7:7-25) Q. What does Paul mean by "the sinful nature" (NIV) or "the flesh" (ESV, KJV)? Is this ever eradicated? A. By "the sinful nature" or "the flesh" Paul means the old Adamic nature that is inclined to sinful acts and rebellion towards God, the part of us that is not totally submitted to the control of the Holy Spirit. Q. Can there ever be victory over temptation? A. Yes by total daily submission to the power of God. But note that we will ever be tempted by Satan but can refuse to yield or refuse to be overcome by the temptation through reliance on the power of God through the Holy Spirit in us.
  23. Q3. (Acts 10-11; Acts 19:1-7) Q. The Holy Spirit comes upon new believers in both Caesarea and Ephesus accompanied by speaking in tongues (and prophecy and praise) like on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:4). Does He always come like this initially? A. Not really. The Holy Spirit can come upon a believer without the enablement of speaking in tongues. Every believer in Jesus Christ has one or more gifts of the Holy Spirit but not every believer has all the gifts and may not have the gift of speaking in tongues or prophesy. Q. What about the times when people are saved in the New Testament but tongues aren't mentioned? Are they filled with the Spirit also? A. Yes. Please see the b part of the answer in the first question above
  24. Q2. (Acts 4:8, 31) Q. What does it mean that Peter and the believers are "filled with the Holy Spirit" in these passages? A. The power of the Holy Spirit came upon him afresh A. Are the "refilled?" A. Sort of. Q. Is it possible for a believer to have many "fillings" of the Holy Spirit? Why or why not? A. Yes when it means a fresh in pouring of the power of the Holy Spirit. We can and do actually need to be recharged with the power of God through the Holy Spirit living in us for specific challenging tasks that may arise from time to time.
  25. Q1. (Acts 2) Q. What happened at Pentecost that was different than anything that had happened in previous history? A. The Holy Spirit came upon the believers (the disciples) and they spoke in tongues Q. What word analogies are used to describe this phenomenon? A. Some of the word analogy are 'filled with the Holy Spirit' ; 'the Holy Spirit came upon ; or the Holy Spirit was poured on them Q. Are these word analogies essentially used synonymously with others in Acts 2? What did the Jews from foreign lands hear and see? A. Yes. They heard them speaking in the languages they (the Jews from foreign land) also speak Q. How did Peter interpret what they heard and saw? (Acts 2:14-21) A. That what they were hearing was in line with what Jesus Christ promised would happened when the Holy Spirit had been poured upon the disciples as promised.
