Lesson 11. Exercises
Don W replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 11. Psalms: Finding Forgiveness and Restoration
As I have said before for other Psalms, I have often prayed this Psalm 51 back to God by asking God for His forgiveness for my sins, and His restoration of fellowship with Him once again as I have confessed these sins and have repented from them. I believe that God loves to hear His Word prayed in this fashion spoken back to Him and in doing this, it seems to often bring me closer and more intimate in fellowship, worship and praise with thanksgiving to Him. Since David used the personal pronouns -

Q2. Psalm 51
Don W replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 11. Psalms: Finding Forgiveness and Restoration
No, David is not minimizing his sin against Bathsheba and Uriah but is stating that his sinning against his Lord God is much more drastic and He needs to confess and repent from his sinning against God before he does so with his sin against Bathsheba. He needs to clear this up first and foremost before God so he can have fellowship with God once more trusting in God to cleanse him from his sin and restore him to have a sweet and peaceful fellowship with God once again. David, upon his mention of his sinfulness before even his birth, was not excusing himself with or blaming original sin for his sin, but was acknowledging that in him before his Lord and Master, he was totally depraved in sin through and through himself and only his Lord God could remove all of his sinfulness and turn him into the man whom God loved by removing all of his sins from him as he turned to his Lord as his Savior. God will do the same thing for us as we acknowledge our sinfulness before Him and then turn around (repent) from this sin, and turn to the Lord Jesus for His total forgiveness for our sin and His restoration of fellowship with Him as we do so as Christians. Praise the Lord for such a Triune Godhead that we have that will do all of this for us very sinful and formerly wicked creatures as we are!!!!! Amen! -

Q2. Psalm 110
Don W replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Psalms: Looking Forward to the Messianic King
Jesus asked the Pharisees about verse 1 of Psalm 110 because He wanted to demonstrate that, in reality (and unlike what they believed), Jesus was much greater then David or even as One succeeding from the Davidic line of the kings of Israel for He is the Messiah -

Q1. Psalm 2
Don W replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 10. Psalms: Looking Forward to the Messianic King
Psalm 2 teaches us about Yahweh's anointed King that He is the King (Ruler) over all the earth and there won't be any successful rebellion against Him because He is the Messiah, the chosen One of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. All the kings and rulers of the earth (as well as their subjects or peoples) are to bow down to the Lord Jesus and to serve Him as their Lord with holy fear as well as to rejoice (in Him) with holy trembling because when He comes again to this earth His wrath will destroy all His enemies (all the ones who do not bow down to Him as their Lord and serve Him), but all those who do take refuge in Him as their Lord and Savior will be blessed by Him throughout eternity, which is exactly what this passage teaches about the vital importance of all men and women bowing down before Him in submission before it is too late for them to do so. The apostles saw this passage as referring to Jesus the Messiah because they knew the Lord Jesus personally, having spent 3 -

Love and trustworthiness, found all through the entire Holy Bible, are so important to the faith of people in the Old and New Testament because they are the two primary characteristics (or attributes) of the God we are called upon to worship and praise; and we, as His people, are to have these characteristics in our lives as well (to, of course, a much more limited degree then our Lord and Savior). The New Testament speaks of these characteristics of God the Father, the Lord Jesus, His Son, as God

Almost all of the laments in the Psalms end with an upswing of hope and praise because after the Psalmist has opened and poured out his heart to the Lord his God, then the Lord has turned his heart to praise and worship Him as the God who is sovereignty in control of everything that happens to him, and this gives the Psalmist (and us) much hope in what is going to happen to us who are under the goodness and grace of God

According to Psalm 23, the Lord our Shepherd, in this very beautiful Messianic Psalm, quiets His sheep (us) by being their (our) Shepherd so that we will not have any wants, but He will fulfill all the things we need in Himself for He already knows what we need even before we ask of Him, and He will give us all of it in abundance. Also, He quiets us, His sheep, by not only leading us to very green and abundant pastures, but also the quiet waters where He restores our souls
-
According to this Psalm, David quiets his inner person before the Lord by his attitude of humility and trust in the Lord; not being overly concerned with matters in life that are too great and wonderful for him to comprehend (but they are those that he would still worship and praise the Lord for them even if he didn

The reasons why we are to give the Lord God our praise from this Psalm are: because of His doing marvelous things in our lives, especially giving us His salvation; His making His salvation known as well as His revealed righteousness to (all of) the nations
-
Some of the reasons why we should worship the Lord contained in this Psalm include: because He is our Rock of our salvation (steadfast, certain, Almighty and Powerful, etc.); He is the great God, the great King (far) above all gods (He is far above all other things in creation which He created, including us); He controls in His hands all of creation since He created it all Himself; He is the LORD our Maker, our God (implying, I think, that there is not(or should not be)any other LORD nor Maker in our lives but the Lord our God); we belong to Him as the people He pastures and cares about us; and we should not ever go astray from Him nor let our hearts go astray from worshiping Him as our God so we cannot enter into His rest (which is in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ). The verses 8-11 are included in this Psalm because they explain how we are not to worship God with disobedient hearts and minds, and this all fits in with the earlier elements of the Psalm all relating to the theme of why and how we are to worship and praise the Lord our God, our great King and the LORD our Maker.

Lesson 3. Exercises
Don W replied to Pastor Ralph's topic in 3. Psalms: Choosing the Path of Righteousness
I like to pray each Psalm that we study, putting myself, the church, and other Christians in the place of the pronouns in the Psalm and make them personal prayers to the Lord who hears our prayers and responds with His answers to them according to His will. Amen! After reading all of your exercises on these Psalms from many of the members of these Bible studies, I believe that these studies are excellent examples of the unity of believers and we have learned a lot from them. We all come from different backgrounds and from different churches--some denominational and some nondenominational churches--but we have all put our differences behind us as we have studied the Psalms together (via the internet) and have commented on the things we have learned from them; and all the comments made so far seem to fit the doctrines and beliefs in God's Word; and so we are united together the way all the Christian churches should be--in and under God's Word to us as His people. It's too bad that the Church Universal has not done the same, namely to study Biblical doctrine together and to agree over most things and to praise and honor God for them; but also to "agree to disagree" at times as well. This will most-likely not happen until the Second Coming of the Lord when we are all with Him throughout eternity, but these Bible studies have shown me that it can happen among many different, yet united believers in the Lord Jesus as a group of God's people who are studying and learning God's Word. Let's keep exhorting and encouraging each other so much and so importantly in the studies of God's Word together! Amen!
