  1. Matthew 20:28 is the New Testament passage that sums up Isaiah 53 for me. Separation from God, which is the punishment brought on by our rebelling and sin, is a life (present and eternal) of grief and anguish - a spiritual death. God's love offers the us the opportunity to be reconciled with Him by allowing His Son to take upon Himself the consequences of our sin - His physical suffering and death in place (a ransom) of our spiritual death. "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." Matthew 20:28 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 ****************** His Peace & Love To All Of You.
  2. Isaiah 53: 10 "Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering," Isaiah 5312 "...because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." Jesus Christ paralleled His physical suffering (the process of His death on the cross) and His spiritual suffering (Matthew 27:46) with the spiritual punishment due me because of my rebelling and sinning against God's will and presence in my life; the punishment I deserved, yet, could never endure - eternal separation from God.
  3. To rebel (sin) against God and His will in my life leads to spiritual consequences of separation from Him (presently and eternal) which produces the suffering of spiritual grief and anguish (often disguised as physical and mental suffering in this life). Jesus Christ takes my (the world's) place in the suffering of the guilt and punishment; therefore mending my relationship with God and giving me the freedom to except the peace and love that Christ offers in a relationship with the Triune God, now and eternally.
  4. I believe God's mercy was allowing the Jewish people to temporarily purge their sins through animal sacrifice until the appointed time of the perfect atonement, that was adequate for completely taking away human sins, which was in the sacrifice of His own Son, Jesus Christ.
