  1. Q1. (Psalm 91) What is the protected one required to do in times of danger (verses 1-2, 9). What metaphors are used of God's protection in this psalm? Rest in the shadow of the Almighty; Trust in God; Dwell in the Most High. Shelter, shadow, refuge, fortress, cover with feathers, His wings, faithfulness, shield, rampart, dwelling, guard, protector. http://www.joyfulheart.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=435
  2. Q2. (139:5, 10). In verses 5 and 10, how does God's hand touch the psalmist? Have you ever felt God's hand on you in a special way? Was it for your good? What was it like? God holds onto the psalmist, never to let go; to guard, guide, lead, and watch over. Yes, recently I wanted to move to a retirement complex. I had my eye on a certain unit but had to sell my (at that time) home first. To move house at my age it is quite a daunting experience. In the end I got the unit I was looking for, my house was sold; both sales going through almost simultaneously. The way it all happened I felt God
  3. Q1. (139:7) Why do people sometimes want to flee from God? Why do people imagine that God doesn't know what they do? Have you ever felt this way? People sometimes want to flee from God because they are ashamed of their sin, falsely thinking they can hide from God, and that He won
  4. Q4. What is the significance of the confession "Jesus is Lord"? Why is this necessary for salvation, according to Romans 10:9? We accept that Jesus is God, Lord of all. We cannot expect to be saved if we do not acknowledge Jesus as Lord and Saviour. We have to believe and confess that He is not only our Saviour but He is also Lord of all.
  5. Q3. What are the implications for governments that Yahweh is the King of kings and Lord of lords? What are the implications of removing "God" from a nation's currency and pledges, and ardently secularizing national life? Where does that put a nation with regard to God the King? All governments are to bow down and acknowledge Yahweh as ruler overall. They do not do this at their own peril! God is in control of history and nations who reject God as Supreme Ruler have in the past all ceased to be. That is why our world is in the mess it is in at the moment. The more we turn our backs on God, the worse things will get!
  6. Q2. What are the personal implications of Yahweh being your King and of Jesus being the Messiah sent from God? What are the advantages of being the subject of Yahweh as King? What does it mean for you to submit to the King on an everyday basis? How does a person reject Yahweh from being King over him or her? Yahweh being my King means I owe allegiance to Him. I
  7. Q1. Read 1 Samuel 8:15 and Malachi 3:8-10. How did tithing relate to a person's acceptance of God being his or her King in the Old Testament? How about for those of us who live under the New Covenant? What place does tithing have for us? By tithing the people acknowledged God as their King. They recognised that as King, He owned everything and also that He was the Giver of all possessions. Under the New Covenant we are taught to give liberally as our Lord prospers us
  8. Q4. (20:3) What is the basis on which Hezekiah asks for healing? Why is personal righteousness and holiness important in getting your prayers answered? How can unrighteousness prevent answered prayer if all gifts from God are by grace anyway? Hezekiah was trying to live a faithful righteous life, and based on this felt that he could ask God for healing of his body. Sin acts as a barrier between us and God. Being a child of our Heavenly Father and therefore living a righteous life is important in having our prayers answered. Just like a worldly father, our Heavenly Father is more likely to answer prayers of His obedient children. Nothing we do can earn any favours from God. It is His sovereign right to answer our prayers as He sees fit. But I feel that He is more likely to hear the prayers of believers than unbelievers.
  9. Q4. (Jude 24) What does it mean to you that God is guarding you from falling? How can you explain God's exultant joy towards you? How will God manage to present you to himself "blameless"? How does that work? God is protecting me from the loss of my salvation
  10. Q2. (19:15) How do the first two sentences of Hezekiah's prayer (verse 15) correspond to the first sentence of the Lord's Prayer? How are they important to faith? How are they important to God answering the prayer? In both Hezekiah
  11. Q3. Why is Hezekiah's healing important for his nation? How did it relate to God's promises to David? With his country under attack, Hezekiah
  12. Q3. (Jude 21a) What does it mean to "keep yourself in God's love"? What are you doing to strengthen your love relationship with God? What more could you do that might help? By righteous living we keep ourselves in His love, as well as by prayer and worship. We must love God with heart, soul, and mind. I try not allow sin to come between me and God. If I do sin I must confess and forsake it immediately. I try to do God
  13. Q2. (Jude 20a) Why does God make you responsible to "build up" your own Christian faith? What are you doing on a regular basis to obey this command? What should you begin to do that will help you be built up better? We are to build up our own Christian faith by studying and obeying the Bible. We have to do it, the Holy Spirit can help us understand Scripture by opening our hearts and minds to it; but it is ultimately our responsibility. Constant reading and meditating guides us positively in the way of righteousness, and warns us about the dangers along the way. On a regular basis I attend church, Bible Study groups, my personal quiet time and then my personal Bible Studies like this one. I can start by being more active in spreading the Word in my community.
  14. Q1. (19:14) What is the significance of Hezekiah spreading out the enemy's message before the Lord? What is the underlying principle illustrated here? How can we apply this principle to our own lives? What happens when we don't apply this principle? This shows Hezekiah
  15. Q1. (Jude 1) Which of these three privileges catches your attention more than the others? Why is it so special to you? How does it encourage your faith? I remember when I was called by God. It was in 1982, and since then I
  16. Q5. (2 Peter 3:11-12, 14-16) What effect should a belief in Christ's return and coming judgment have on your life? What effect does an underemphasis on Christ's return have on a Christian's life? We need to make choices which when we come to think about it should be quite simple. Do we live for eternity or for now; do we emphasize the spiritual or the material; do we choose the permanent or the passing? We will want to live in holiness and godliness eagerly waiting for the coming of our Lord. We do this by following the example of Jesus - trying to be more and more like Him. Also there is nothing to fear knowing that He will keep us safe. Soon we will be standing before God and this should create within us a desire to be without blemish and blameless, and to be at peace with Jesus. We live in the light of God
  17. Q4. Define "justice," "vengeance," and "mercy." Can a Holy and Righteous God justly forgive sins without punishing them? What is the significance of the cross in God's righteousness? Justice
  18. Q4. Why is a person's attitude with regard to giving related to that person's attitude towards praise? Why does an attitude of possessiveness with regards to giving get in the way of worship? In what sense do all your possessions belong to God? What then should be your relationship to your possessions? How will these truths re-energize your giving? Your praise? We need to be reminded that God created everything and that therefore ultimately all belongs to Him. When we give, we are in truth only giving Him what is His own. I read somewhere that our attitude should not be,
  19. Q4. (2 Peter 3:9) Why does our culture resist the ideas of sin and repentance? Can there be salvation without repentance? Can you think of a time in your own life when repentance was difficult for you? Why was it difficult? We do not see ourselves as sinners. We have not murdered anyone, nor robbed a bank. We tell a few lies here and there but otherwise we are basically good clean living people. So there is no need for repentance or a Saviour. We read in 1 John 1:8,
  20. Q3. (Psalm 68:5) Since our God is the Helper of the Fatherless and the Protector of Widows - that is, the poorest and weakest of society - what does this say about a Christian's commitment to social justice in our communities? How should it affect our actions? We should all be putting our Christianity into practise by caring for the less fortunate than us
  21. Q3. Verses 11 and 12 both attribute various characteristics to God, such as glory, honour, and might. How might you begin to mention God's greatness in your own prayers? Where is this kind of praise found by example in the Lord's Prayer? What are your favourite songs that point to God's greatness? We acknowledge Him as our Heavenly Father. That is, we are His obedient children and He is in Heaven above all. Hallowed be Thy Name
  22. Q3. (2 Peter 3:9) According to Peter, why has Christ's coming been delayed? What does this teach us about God? God has delayed Christ
  23. Q2. If we believe that truth and morality are all relative to one's culture, how can we know and understand the Righteous and Upright God? Extra credit for present-day evangelists: How can we declare God and his Son Jesus Christ in a relativistic world? What is an effective approach? (There is no simple answer here. What is an effective communication strategy in your community?) God is called the Righteous One and the Upright One but we are all sinners and deserve the wrath of God. He only is righteous and upright. I don
  24. Q2. In what way does praise exalt God? Why should we exalt God? What does this exaltation do in us? What does it say about us? By praising God we acknowledge and honour Him as God above all. He is our Lord God Almighty. We exalt God because He is worthy of all our praise and respect and honour. He is our Creator. We owe it all to Him. It strengthens our faith and helps us remember who He is. By praising Him we let everyone know about His greatness and also that we belong to God and we serve Him.
  25. Q2. (2 Peter 3:7-13). Why is it important for us to understand what it means to "perish"? Why are these truths underemphasized in our day? What effect does that have on us? How can we get an understanding of judgment into proper balance in our churches and teaching? It is most important to understand our eternal future; will we perish or spend eternity in the
