An interesting couple of facts I've noticed about the spies passage s ... 40 yrs before Moses sent 12 spies. 2 of them report positively (Joshua & Caleb - the only survivors from the 40 yrs back generation). Now, Joshua sends only 2 spies - the same number of the positive report. They stay hidden on the wilderness for 3 days before they reach back to Joshua - their report is encouraging: 2:24 And they said to Joshua, “Truly the Lord has given all the land into our hands. And also, all the inhabitants of the land melt away because of us. Coincidence?

I believe Rahab's virtue in on recognizing the Lord as such 2:11 "for the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath", not because of her career or the fact she hid the spies. I believe her significance is because women and prostitutes where considered the lowest of the lowest and the cast down in the society of Joshua's time (not anymore - thank God). the lowest downcast recognizes God's power and purposes. All the others that heard her and believed and lodged in her house where saved. She was a good witness to the good news! Is she a type of John the Baptizer?

For as much as I love the promises in this book - and we all do and quote, at what extent can we claim these promises from GOD to Joshua to us? I have faith to believe the promise - but how can any of us be totally sure that GOD is promising me or you that everywhere you set your foot will be yours? Where in the book God indicates these promises are for all God's people (you and me?). And where in this chapter we can see the passages prophesying about Jesus? Jn 5:39 - "study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me" I see unmistakably the promise God makes to Joshua and to the people, and that Jesus makes to us that "HE will never leave us, nor forsake us". I think this is the promise we can FOR SURE live by today. God Bless Polo
