Darleen Nelson
Even though she had received the revelation from the angel Gabriel, Mary did not really understand who Jesus was or His reason for being on earth. The Jewish people expected a warrior who would save them from the oppression they were living under and that was not the way Jesus carried out His life. In this incident Jesus was breaking new ground with His parents and trying to help them understand who He was and His purpose for being on earth. Mary did not understand but she kept these things and pondered them in her heart and that is what we must do. Many things may seem to cause us to rebel against teachings we have had in the past or against our own pre-conceived ideas. We must learn to put things which might cause us to rebel up on a shelf somewhere to be pondered over and allow God to bring them to our understanding rather than rejecting any changes someone may offer. There are many false teachings going on but everything we don't understand is not a false teaching. Sometimes it is something beyond our knowledge and understanding and must not be rejected just becuase it is new or foreign. The Lord will show each of us through the Word and through others we encounter what this new teaching is and whether it is of Him or not. We must be open and willing to listen and then to weigh things according to God's Word rather than immediately reject them.
Edward E. Rochon
Jesus took on the life of a man, and as a Jewish man was subject to the law. Children were obligated to obey their parents and to obey the commandment to honor your father and mother. In order to be a sinless offering Jesus had to obey all God's ordinances. As for obeying people whom you might consider inferior to you, scripture teaches that all authority comes from God -- even secular and/or flawed authority. So we obey the authorities of this world out of respect for God.
Guest IN_A_MELLOW_TONE
I think it was a great example of being submissive while also teaching respect.
Guest crccwebmaster
Jesus came to earth to be the living example to man. God has directed every child to obey their parents. Jesus shows us, through example, that even HE is bound by the laws of God.
Guest Guest
God was entrusting Jesus' upbringing to his parents. He had to grow as a man, a human, as well as spiritually. We must have a balance between our earthly responsibilities and our spiritual life, so it is important for us to develop maturity as human beings. Also, we cannot apply Biblical principles to our lives if we do not have the maturity and intelligence to do so.
Mario Angel
I think that he was showing from the beginning of His life that He came to redeem His people, that He came to take the place of the lamb in the altar. he came as a servant. He also was teaching us to obey our parents and also as obedience for the commandments that God gave Moses. We as believers must learn to obey our God and submmit ourselves to His commands, because He knows what is better for our lives. We many times think that we know everything and how shamefully we must to come to God to ask for His forgiveness after we messed up, just because we didn't obey His orders. It is necessary for us to obey God and submmit ourselves to Him if we want to have a fruitfull live and a future eternal life with Him. AngelOnLine
Q4. Why did Jesus have to obey parents who were his spiritual inferiors? (2:51) How can our inability to submit to authority be crucial in our spiritual relationship with God? Even though Jesus is the Son of God, He came to earth in human form to teach us and to give us an example to live by. God commands us to honor our Father and Mother. If we are unable to submit to those in authority, we will be unable to submit to God and be obedient to Him.
alisicia
Jesus already knew the ten commandments. Exod 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD giveth thee. Jesus was without blemish, he knew everything that had to be done long before he came to this earth. His parents knew before his arrival, what his purpose for being here was. Lluke 2:24 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. (26) And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. (27) And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law, (28) Then he took him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, (29) Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: (30) For mine eyes have seen thy salvation. (31) Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; (32) A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. (33) And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him. (40) And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. (41) Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. (42) And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. (43) And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. (45) And they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. (46) And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. (47) And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. (48) And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. (49) And he said, unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? (50) And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. (51) And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. (52) And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. I'm pretty sure this will happen if we continue to study God's words, (James 4:7) Submit yourselves therefore to God, Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth, the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. mllwrghtswf
Why did Jesus have to obey parents who were his spiritual inferiors? (2:51) How can our inability to submit to authority be crucial in our spiritual relationship with God? Jesus being twelve at the time was at the age of accountability or coming of age if you prefer. He was setting the standard for all following generations to come in being obedient to ones father and mother. Colonsians 3:20 states "Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord." 1 Samuel 7:3 states " Prepare your hearts unto the Lord and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the land of the Philistines". In comparison to the scriptures we too dwell among the Philistines (The unsaved ) of this world. We are to be obiedient and quick to repent if we should falter. We are the children of God and we were made to serve him daily, we can have no inner peace without serving and obeying him.
Brendamay
Jesus obeyed his Parents, because God Chose them for him, He respected them, because it was gods law to Honour thy Father and Mother. We must also respect our Parents. because god commanded it. Also they give there lives for us, and teach us, and care for us.
Commissioned
Q4. Why did Jesus have to obey parents who were his spiritual inferiors? (2:51) Jesus had to obey parents who were his spiritual inferiors because it was God's will and to afford him the development that he needed. How can our inability to submit to authority be crucial in our spiritual relationship with God? Our inability to submit to authority can be crucial in our spiritual relationship with God because submission to authority shows humility; without humility your relationship with God is jeopardized, you cannot see the kingdom of God.
