SoiKosum
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? The indications in the passage that Jesus will come suddenly are given in the account of two incidents - the Flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. In both stories, people were going about their daily chores and lives when destruction came suddenly and without further warning. We are therefore told to be watchful just like the seven brides who had their wicks trimmed and oil full waiting for their Lord. We are instructed to live our lives right and getting our hearts right with God because we do not know the date or time of the Lord's coming. Our focus should not be on merry-making and self-indulgence. Rather we should be prayerful and watchful, with our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ. Travis63
What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? The indications are given by way of recalling the two occurrences of sudden destructions in the history of the listening audience and to the readers of the text mentioned ( the Flood of Noah's day and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah) In both instances people were living as they had grown accustomed to. Prior to the flood there was more than ample warning to repent unfortunately all but 8 souls ignored the warning. In the case of Sodom, Gomorrah and surrounding cities they expressed no desire to change their life styles and a with mob an aflame evil intent pressed beyond what they had previously been accustomed to, only 3 were known to survive. Destruction came suddenly upon both groups of people with without further warning. What are the implications of this for our attitude? It is implied that our attitudes should not be of that similar to those that were destroyed (attitudes of disobedience, attitudes of none belief, attitudes of self seeking, attitudes that are in compliance with SIN). It is implied that we are to have an attitude that was similar (but mot exactly as the survivors), we are to have an attitude that will be submissive to the Lords will. What are the implications of this for our lives? We are told to be ready, watchful, to occupy until He return. We are to walk (live) according to our righteousness in Christ and not to frustrate His grace, love and mercy. When we do sin we are to repent with a godly repentance and by His grace live adhering to His voice (Word / guidance). "Our focus should not be on merry-making and self-indulgence. Rather we should be prayerful and watchful, with our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ." SoiKosum

(Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Life will be going on as usual on the day Christ returns. There will be no warning. Most people will be going about their everyday tasks, indifferent to the demands of God. They will be as surprised by Christ
l.a.
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Jesus and the prophets have heed us fair warning; Jesus compares His return to a thief in the night. The warning has already been given to us through God's Word. It is up to us to keep our eyes on those things yet to come. Focus on what the Bible tells us to do. Guard your heart, for that is the place God sees us. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind! Always have faith and thankfulness in all your circumstances, whether lacking or in abundance. Foofee's Nana
What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? He rfers to different stories from the Bible....where the destruction of God comes without warning. We know specifically about Lot and the leaving from Sodom, God told them not to look back abut Lot's wife did and was turned to a pillar of salt. We need to be careful about what we are doing, how we live our daily lives....Jesus could come at a moments notice. We need to be in a prayerful, loving, joyful attitude....waiting on that day and not thinking about missing this life. Come Lord Jesus....Come..... haar
Jesus told his listeners that his kingdom will come suddenly and unexpectedly just as in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah when every one was going on his/her busines and the day sadely came took every one unawares. We should thus live our lives watching and praying so that we will be raedy whenever the day come.
nurselaino
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Luk 17:24 for as the lightning, when it lighteneth out of the one part under the heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall the Son of man be in his day. Luk 17:25 But first must he suffer many things and be rejected of this generation. Luk 17:26 And as it came to pass in the days of Noah, even so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. Luk 17:27 They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Luk 17:28 Likewise even as it came to pass in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; Luk 17:29 but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all: Luk 17:30 after the same manner shall it be in the day that the Son of man is revealed. Luk 17:31 In that day, he that shall be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away: and let him that is in the field likewise not return back. Luk 17:32 Remember Lot's wife. Jesus reminds us it will be like the day of the flood and the day of destruction of Sodom. Those days began as any other day until ...Once again the world will be taken by surprise. This reminds us that we need to be ready. We need to have our hearts at all times in the right place. There will be no advance warning. When the time does come we are to surrender to the will of God and let our love of Him shine. Do not let the worldly holds on us overcome our feelings...we may have fear but also know that we have life.
charisbarak
"On that day"--a normal day for us with normal things going on--and all of a sudden He comes! The days of Noah--people's eyes & hearts were closed & all of a sudden come the wet judgment. It shows we should be living our lives daily--not same 'ol same 'ol, but living as though Jesus would be coming! Not doubting--or falling back. hanks
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Jesus warns us that there will be many false christs announcing His Second Coming, but we, as believers, are not to be deceived by such false warnings. He also told us no one but God knows the exact date, and that Jesus will come without warning and His coming will be visible and unmistakeable to all on earth. This has implications for all of us. His coming will mean judgment for the unbelievers who reject His offer of mercy. Those who concentrate only on self-gratification, pleasure, and wealth will be destroyed. At the same time we are to live a life dedicated to our Lord, being prepared for His imminent return, and not becoming too attached to our material things. Guitar Jim
We are not to be over preoccupied with our material gain and the things of this world because if we don't leave them behind on the day Christ returns we'll have them but lose our place in the Kingdom! I believe that in His typical hyperbolic way Jesus is warning us about the dangers of materialism. If we recognize the signs of His imminent return we should be prepared for it, much like the friends of the bridegroom and the handmaidens. We are to be watchful. "Lift up your heads for your salvation is at hand". Oops, just laid a king-sized guilt trip on myself there. I recently bought a new guitar. . . . Hey, if we have a possession (like a guitar) actually in our hands when Jesus comes . . . can we hang onto it or are we supposed to let it go? Just wondering . . . Jen
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Jesus gives two examples of totally unexpected destruction in this passage. People were totally absorbed in their daily lives and not giving God a thought. Obviously their lives were not pleasing to God and destrucion came suddenly with no chance to change. I am more aware of my own frailty as the years go on. I see people I know leaving this world and I wonder if they were prepared. I find I need reminders everyonce in a while as in this study the suddenness of the coming of the Lord. I have been thinking about the economic problems in our country and wondering if there might not be a good side to this if people will start focusing on God and learning about Him in place of the gadgets they can no longer afford. Maybe that should be our prayer as a group for our countrymen and members of our own families that God would place in their hearts a longing for Him now that maybe He can get their attention. Mine too sometimes! It seems I get focused on fall work to prepare for the winter and making Christmas gifts etc. (silly stuff) and don't give God the time and worship that He desires and deserves. God Bless you all! Jen Numbers 6:24-

The dications of His coming will be like as in the days of Noah, they were eating and drinking and suddenly dsestruction and only 8 souls were saved. As in the dsys of Sodom which had warnings from the Angels and only Lot and his two daughters were saved. We do not know the hour of our Lords return, but we must be ready. We need to keep our hearts and minds of the things of the Lord. Looking to that blessed hope and appearing of the Lord Jesus. Lion of Grace
Jesus`warned that His coming would be as in the times of Noah. People were eating and drinking and caught up in worldly living. Even watching Noah build the ark, they were scoffers and non believers. In their pride, they assumed no bad thing would happen to them. In Sodom, the same was happening and even those warned and given a way out, like Lots wife, looked back and did not escape with her life. In other places, Jesus said His coming would be like a thief in the night. There is no warning from thieves. They spring in on you unaware, most likely while you are sleeping. The attitudes of these people were for living in blindness and sleepy complacency. They were prideful, had unbelief, were mocking and living for the moment. They were non repentant, full of foolishness and not prepared. They practiced worldliness and were holding on to things not good for them. We are in danger of these very things yet today. We need to be humble believers living for eternal purposes. We need to be repentant and we need to accept instruction from God through the Bible and guidance through His Holy Spirit. We need to be fully prepared through the Word of God as to what to expect and how we should be living. We are to be giving away useless things of the world and gathering spiritual treasures. We are to not look back to sin and sinful ways of life and we are to run the race as for the prize! Eternal prize! We are not to be complacent, or sleepy. We are to see the dangers, steer clear of them, be awake to God's will and be up and doing His will so when He does come THAT'S what He finds us doing! alexandria
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? The indications Jesus gives in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning are, for us to go on with our lives but to always be watching and waiting, being prepared at all times to expect his coming at any moment and not to let our earthly possessions or our burdens keep us from being prepared. We are to live as holy a life as possible and be prepared at any moment to be taken or left behind. The implications of this for our attitude, is that we cannot be so involved with our earthly possessions and earthly cares because our attitude toward these things will either destroy or save us depending on what we hold as being most important, our possessions or our eternal reign with Jesus and God in the Kingdom. Our lives are in our hands, depending on how much we want the KIngdom or wether we want what will be left behind, we are told that when this time comes, no matter where we are, we are to be prepared to leave as we are and not to go back or look back for what has been left, our valued possessions should be those that we receive in the kingdom, not the earthly ones. The events that took place during the days of Noah - the sudden destruction of Sodom - along with His instructions to His disciples to prepare themselves and remain prepared when destructions come was an attempt by Jesus to prepare them, and us, for His sudden arrival. . . Our attitude should be that we are living a life in readiness - we don't know the day or the hour when He will appear - but we know that He is coming back - the things for us to do is to get ready and stay ready. . . He uses Noah and the flood, as well as Sodom and Gomorrah, both situations came with put warning. They were all going alone living there life's and not noticing what was going on around them. We need to stay alert, watching and waiting for His return. we should live like today is our last day, and I'm sure we would behave differently. Leonard C
It will be as in the days of Noah and the day that Lot went out of Sodom. Old Jerry
The indications that Jesus gives in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning is that we will be living our lives and think that everything is going great. It will be like every other day. The implication of our attitude is that when we see something coming on that day we will have a tendency to go and get our material things. The attitude for our lives is that we will want to run for them.
Ramon
Answer: It means as what always the Lord tells His Disciple:BE WATCHFUL: 1 Peter 5:8- Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour Matthew 24:14 -And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. The gospel has been preached already, and no reason will be entertained. It is either you are saved or not. Thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. When Christ came to destroy the Jewish nation by the Roman armies, that nation was found in such a state of false security as is here spoken of. In like manner, when Jesus Christ shall come to judge the world, sinners will be found altogether regardless; for in like manner the sinners of every age go on securely in their evil ways, and remember not their latter end. But wherever the wicked are, who are marked for eternal ruin, they shall be found by the judgments of God(Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary). No one can escape the judgement of God
PATCH
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Jesus spoke of the great flood during Noah's time and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Both took place so suddenly and the destruction was immediate. When Jesus comes again, it will be so sudden that many will be caught unprepared. Most of us will live our lives doing the things we normally do and enjoy without giving the coming of Jesus a second thought. Jesus is not saying that we must not be doing our daily work or performing the basic functions in life. Neither is he saying that we cannot enjoy ourselves. He does not want us to sit in a cave, doing nothing or starving, waiting for the world to send. Instead, in all that we do, we must be mindful that we are doing it unto the Lord. We must live our lives in the fear of the Lord. We must look forward toward entering the Kingdom of God through worship, prayer, reading the Word, instead of clinging on to materials things and activities which are temporal and have no eternal value. Paul H
Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? Jesus makes it clear, throughout this passage that His return will be sudden, unexpected and without warning. He says that just as in the days of Noah and at the time of Lot, people will be living their lives as they have always lived them - eating, drinking, marrying, sleeping in bed, grinding corn... going to work, watching TV, surfing the internet and bang, He will return and it will be too late to change anything. In Noah's time, Noah and his family heeded the message and when the unthinkable happened, they were saved. Lot and his family also heeded the messengers and fled and were saved, except for Lot's wife who hesitated hankering back to the things of her life, and she was lost. To be saved we have to continually heed the message and be prepared for His return at any time What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? At any given time, we must assume that Jesus will return. We cannot let our guard down and become embroiled in the things of the World because He may come when our guard is down and we will be lost. Christ therefore needs to be at the centre of everything which we do and everything which we are. In fact, Christ is already here within us. He is all around us. If we keep that in mind throughout our lives, we will be ready.
