Q3. Sudden Coming of the Kingdom

Recommended Posts

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

The indications Jesus gives to us is:

1. It will be as in the days of Noah.

A. People are going about their normal lives as if nothing is going to happen.

B. On a particular day destruction from God occurs suddenly and without further warning.

2. It will be like Lot and his wife.

A. Lot was warned when he left the city with his wife to not look back. His wife looked back and she was turned to a pillar of salt.

Jesus warns us now that material things will not matter. Our attitude has to take a very big about turn. If we don't believe that Jesus is the WAY the TRUTH and the LIGHT then we stand to be like Lot and his wife.

To appear suddenly like lightening or in a flash means to have your lamps full of oil and be ready at less than a moments notice for the Son will be here quicker than you can draw your breath.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

Jesus warns us to go about our daily lives, but to be watchful. He will come in a flash, Jesus also warns us about the false christs, we are not to follow them. Matthew 24: 26-35, Mark 13: 24-31 and Luke 21: 25-33 tells us all the things to watch for. Matthew 24:29-31 "Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, and there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world -from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.

We must remain watchful!

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

Jesus uses the story of Noah and the flood, as well as the story of Sodom and Gommorah to illustrate how like the flood and the fire came suddenly, so to He will come suddenly. When he does there will be no further warning. We are being warned now, and this should cause us to live our lives with an attitude of urgency, expectancy and hope. Our focus should not be on the material of this world but rather on that of the coming Kingdom of God.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

He compares the day of His return to the days when the flood came and God rained down destruction on Sodom and Gomorrah. Everyone had been warned, but they didn't know the exact timing. Most chose to ignore the warnings and go on with their normal lives. When the judgment struck, only those who had been living in readiness were not caught in the destruction.

Our attitude should be one of readiness and waiting expectantly for the Day of the Lord to come at any time.

Our lives should be lived in readiness for the event to happen. We should have our hearts right with God. We should be living a life of obedience and submission to Him that leaves no doubt that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. We should be striving to never let the things of this world take our attention from the things of God.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

We have to believe as if Jesus was about to come every second.

Examples are the lightning and the (not so sudden) flood of Noah.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning?

He gives the two examples of the flood of Noah and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, which came unexpectedly and without warning.

What are the implications of this for our attitude?

He has given us a heads up that our attitude should be one of expectancy and longing for His return....the attitude of a radiant bride watching for the return of her Bridegroom.

For our lives?

Our lives are a drop in the bucket in terms of Eternity, and we are to live on earth as aliens and pilgrims who are passing through on the way to our real home in Heaven. Therefore, we are to hold loosely to anything here....jobs, homes, goods or whatever might cause us to look back as Lot's wife did, preferring what she was leaving to where she was going.

Q3 First Jesus has indicated that He must suffer and rejected by this generation. Then

destruction comes in. He gives two examples of Noah and Lot. We are not to take

all these lightly. We must always be prepared as Jesus said that He will come like

a thief in the night. We have to decide where want to spend eternity.

If we profess our faith with Christ then we have to live life worthy of Him. To

know that we will one day enjoy the Kingdom He has prepared for us.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

It will be sudden and cataclysmic. It will not be expected. There will be no warning. The desctruction will be so swift and thorough that it will not make sense to even try to go home if you are out. Instead of turning back because we long for things of this world, as Lot's wife did, we should look forward to the Day of the Lord.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

Luke 17:24-32) - 24For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. 25But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. 28"It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. 29But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. 30"It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. 31On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. 32Remember Lot's wife!

What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? He will come like lightning which comes quickly and without warning. The Scriptures state that people will be carrying on their normal lives when the day finally comes. In today's events it would be like an explosion in a mine, a car crash into a building with people in it or an accident that changes one's life.

What are the implications of this for our attitude? Know Jesus and be ready for Him.

For our lives? To be with Jesus rather than left behind.

The indications in the passage that Jesus will come suddenly are given in the account of two incidents - the Flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. In both stories, people were going about their daily chores and lives when destruction came suddenly and without further warning. We are therefore told to be watchful just like the seven brides who had their wicks trimmed and oil full waiting for their Lord. We are instructed to live our lives right and getting our hearts right with God because we do not know the date or time of the Lord's coming. Our focus should not be on merry-making and self-indulgence. Rather we should be prayerful and watchful, with our focus on our Lord Jesus Christ.

that's it in a nutshell, very well put

"as the lightening, flashes from one end to the other," He also used the illustration of the flood and how it suddenly came and those who were not prepared vanished. He also used the illustration of Sodom and Gomorah where people were eating, drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, but on the day of Lord they were all destroyed because they were all focussed on their own desires. We need to be prepared. We also need to look forward to what He has prepared for us. We can't look back and wish for the "good ol days."

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

Jesus references past destructions of previous incidents that happened in the Old Testament, such as the story of Noah, and of Sodom and Gomorrah. Our attitude and lives should be conscious and should be reflected by what we say and what we do. In other words, although were in this world, doesn't mean we should be doing the things against the Kingdom of God that would warrant us being left behind.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? From the bible where Jesus talks about the sudden destruction by the flood and Sodom & Gomorrah.

What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives? Live for God and due his work. Live righteously. We don't know what hour he will come.

Jesus tells how in the days of Noah, people were going about their daily life when the flood came upon them without warning. The people of Sodom and Gormorrah were also going about their daily life when these cities where destroyed by fire and brimstone without warning. Actually the people of the pre-flood area were warned of the coming worldwide flood by Noah. They chose to ignore the warning and thus perish. Lot should of warned the people of Sodom against God's coming judgement. Sadly he couldn't even save his own family.

Our attitude should be,that when God's judgement comes,we shouldn't so attached to our material possessions that we miss out or ignore the deliverance God offers.

Jesus only tells us like Noah and Lot that he will come swiflty and without warning people will be going about there usual business when he will come.

We are told by Jesus not to go back for anything

Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it." (Luke 17:31-33)

Those who are concerned about material things will be destroyed. Only those who look forward to the Lord's coming will be saved. Though told to run for her life without looking back, Lot's wife paused and looked back longingly at Sodom -- and became a pillar of salt (Genesis 19:17, 23-26).

Just like the people of Noah's day and the people of Sodom and Gomorah, we have had ample warning. Therefore, Christ will not warn us anymore. He will come suddenly and illuminate the sky from left to right and we will all see Him. We should have an attitude of readiness, by living holy and obedient lives.

Jesus points us back to the flood and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah as examples of the suddenness of God's judgment. People were living normal lives then as they will prior to Jesus' second coming. Humanity will be living normal lives as if nothing out of the ordinary will happen and then His return. Believers should be living as if Jesus could return at any moment -- always prepared. That way we are not caught off guard. Jesus spells this out in the parable of the Ten Virgins in the Gospel of John.

Q3. (Luke 17:24-32) What indications does Jesus give in this passage that he will suddenly come in his Kingdom without further warning? What are the implications of this for our attitude? For our lives?

This lesson shows to me that the coming of Jesus will be sudden. It explains that His coming will take a short time, as lightning takes a short time. Something to indicate it is that for the two, one will be taken and the other be left.

The implication of this to us is that we should not worry abvout our property or our belongings. If it's time, we should not look back or think of our families.

We should not worry about our lives at that time. For, it shows that whoever tries to preserve his life shall lose it but whoever loses his life shall have it restored to him.

Lot's wife is a good example.
