Guest Windy
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Jesus was harsh with those who made excuses, because they were refusing His invitation. No one but God the Father know when Jesus will return, we all need to be ready. Jesus, gave His life for us, our excuses are trival, compared to all He did. charisbarak
He knew that essentially the answer was "no." The call will only be offered for a set time, afterwards, the judgment. It shows where we have neglected to really follow Him. We are afraid of what we may lose right now--our eyes are on ourselves, & pleasing ourselves, not the Lord. I am guilty too. Thank you for the reminder!
jr4624
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Jesus was a radical in many ways. He was throwing the established rituals and prejudices of God's chosen people right on it's ear among other forms of radical change to people's outlooks and world view. He was calling their attention to the radical nature of His calling and mission, and trying to, in no uncertain terms, give them an idea of the radical nature of His commitment, and the commitment that is required of those who follow Him. He is telling them that God will not accept excuses. It's either in or out, for or against, all the way. It is also, perhaps, his own anger and hurt at the rejection of the offer of his marvelous, matchless grace. The call is urgent because time is limited. Human life is a temporary thing. No one knows what the next day, or even the next hour, might bring. The time to decide is now. In light of the sacrifice Jesus made, our sacrifices pale by comparison. He said to his Father, "not my will, but yours", and did what he was called to do. Any excuse we might make in the face of such love, commitment and obedience is lame in the extreme. tammie7
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? He was so harsh because they had excuse that really don't make sense when they was following him anyway,But when it can to getting serous about the ministry that they was call to do or to get serious about follow him that was when the excuses came. The call was urgent because jesus know that his time on earth was limited and that there was a lot of soul who need to heard form the son of God. When it come to Jesus and the sacifice that he made for us to come to earth knowing that he was going to died for our sin.We don't have no excuse to the will that he have for our lives

haar
Jesus was harsh to the people he called to follow Him because each one gave a flimsy excuse for not following immediately. The Kingdom business however, is for now, not a "later" affairs; therefore we have to take it serious. The excuse given by the invitees to follow Jesus (and our excuses too) seemed trivial because they were not significant enough as reasons that justify the failure not to follow Jesus. We should seek the Kingdom of God and his righteousness first and all other things (which are secondary) will be added to us.
nurselaino
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Luk 9:57 As they went on their way, a man said to Jesus, "I will follow you wherever you go." Luk 9:58 Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lie down and rest." Luk 9:59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But that man said, "Sir, first let me go back and bury my father." Luk 9:60 Jesus answered, "Let the dead bury their own dead. You go and proclaim the Kingdom of God." Luk 9:61 Someone else said, "I will follow you, sir; but first let me go and say good-bye to my family." Luk 9:62 Jesus said to him, "Anyone who starts to plow and then keeps looking back is of no use for the Kingdom of God." Jesus knows what it takes to do what has to be done. Jesus has to be the first thing on our minds. We have to be ready to drop everything and do the Lord's bidding. The call is urgent because God's timing is perfect. He does not need us but we need Him. When we look at the excuses we give to God we see the small things that we are standing for when He actually came and died for us...us who hated Him...us who ridiculed Him and us who killed Him and yet we still do not drop on our knees in worship and make pitiful excuses. Commissioned
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Jesus was so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him because the followers of Christ must put spiritual things first before other worldly things. Why is the call so urgent? The call is urgent because Jesus is soon to come. We must spread the gospel to the far and near reaches in the earth. Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Our excuses are trivial when offered to Jesus because all that we need for life and godliness He has given to us. Those excuses are an insult to Jesus. FORWARD FELEX
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? The excuses we give or "They gave" to Jesus don't seem (to be) relevant to the urgence of His call. To me, the excuses give way for satan to do his (evil) works. The answer should be "Yes" and "Now" if we are called upon.
Jen
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? I believe the knowledge of God is within all of us. Excuses minimize or trivialize God Himself. The call is so very urgent because the consequences are so great. Imagine an ant standing up to God and saying no or I can't be bothered with you. We are like the ant. We can make choices but God has the power. God Bless! Jen Numbers 6:24-26 May all who live believe in You and sanctify thy Name in truth, for You are our salvation. kcjim
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Jesus' message is harsh in part because it is out of context, in part because the gospel writer wanted to make a strong point, and in part because he needs all the strong followers he can get to continue his message after his death. The call is urgent because a person can never know when his time will come and needs to be ready at any time. Our excuses would seem trivial if Jesus were standing in front of us in person. andyho1
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Jesus was so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him since the consequences is so great if we don't follow him now. The call is so urgent because Jesus is coming soon, and it will be too late for us if we do not respond to the gospel and follow him, and we don't know the hour or the time, we know he will be back anytime now. Our excuses are trivial when offered to Jesus because all that we need for life and being more like him, he has given to us, those excuses are just an insult to Jesus. Raph
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Jesus was jarsh with those who made excuses because they were neglecting his call to follow Him putting other responsibilities before following Him. Jesus is saying in the strongest possible terms that following him must come before every responsibility we have - even those which we hold sacred. Why is the call so urgent? The call to follow Him is urgent because there are so many people require to hear His word; thus the urgency to have servants to be sent to spread the good news about the Kingdom of God. Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Our excuses are trivial because they are self centred, they are centred on our personal needs and not on the needs of spreading the good news about the Kingdom of God. Eager Bver
Q3. (Luke 9:57-61) Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Why is the call so urgent? Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? One's soul is a very serious matter. Those who made excuses were not ready to give fully of themselves whereas Jesus gave of himself to give us eternal life. Our excuses are trivial compared to Jesus who suffered and endured the cross for all of humanity.
blezed
Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? Jesus was harsh because He wanted them to realize that following him must come first and it would not be easy. Why is the call so urgent? The call is urgent because we must be ready for when Jesus comes again. We know not the day nor the hour. Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? Our excuses are trivial because no excuse could amount to what Jesus did for us. Jesus willingly gave his life for us when asked by the Father and gave no excuse. pickledilly
A Commander-in-Chief accepts no excuses. Jesus understood that these people were not ready to follow Him with all their heart and soul and mind. How convicting! The call to follow is now, not later. It begins right where we are at this moment, not at some future point when we think we’re ready. The call is urgent because eternity hangs in the balance for multitudes of lost unsaved people. The time of the ingathering for the Great Banquet is drawing short. I used to lead the choral ministry in my church. I made it a priority never to ask participants to do anything I wasn't already doing. This was especially important during preparation for special programs that required additional practice time and work at home for memorization. It was always disappointing to hear the excuses for missing important rehearsals and such, knowing that it was almost always because of choices someone had made. Our Savior has already invested and sacrificed everything of Himself for us and calls us to follow His example. No excuse we offer can equal the sacrifice He has already made to make it possible for us to be included in His Kingdom.
jacquie7
Because following Him must take precedence over everything and everyone else, and following Him is immediate not whenever. It is an urgent call and because Jesus is making the call, He means “now” not later. Excuses are trivial because the Kingdom takes priority over everything, the world, family, relationships, or other obligations.

tgandy
Jesus was harsh with those who made excuses to follow him because they were just that, excuses. They never had any intention of following him . To follow Jesus must be first! Every responsibility we have must come after the call the follow Him. The call is urgent because time is fleeting. We are not promised tomorrow. What you do today may be all you have left. We must be ready. No excuse is adequate. Jesus comes first! Ernie's Son
Why was Jesus so harsh with those who made excuses when called to follow him? The three that came to Jesus were thinking of following Him on their terms. They had to be set straight of what it really meant to follow a homeless, sojourner who was on His way to Golgotha. Why is the call so urgent? Christ journey is today and immediate. " . . . repent for the Kingdom is at hand" (Mt. 4:17). Rom. 13:11 "And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed." Why do our excuses seem so trivial when offered to Jesus? "He isn't offering to follow you. You are offering to follow him and put up with the hardships and self-denial that come on his path." "No excuse you can offer is adequate to put on hold his compelling summons" (Lesson Material). Mat. 6:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
