Recommended Posts

when we turn from our sinful ways and give our lives to the saviour it is the holy spirit drawing us to him.. as with moses the veil is lifted.

christ is giving us eternal life and freedom from trying to be saved by keeping laws.

when we come to christ to save us all our burdens and guilt are taken away by trusting him as our savior we are loved, accepted, forgiven, and freed to live for him

Q2. (2 Corinthians 3:16-17) Why is the Holy Spirit essential to help people see truth clearly and be able to grasp it?

One person can pant, and another can water but the Lord is the one who gives increase. God uses people often as witnesses however it is the Holy Spirit that draws a person, and also empower then with a measure of faith to believe as they yield to the Spirit and surrender of Self. The Holy Spirit takes away spiritual blindness and imparts light as we draw closer to the Light.

What enables people to come to Christ at all?

A measure of faith and that faith being in and of Christ, John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

What kind of freedom does the Spirit give us when we become Christians?

John 8:31-37 Jesus said, " to those Jews which believed on Him, If ye continue in my Word", that they would know the truth, and that truth would set them. Because of this belief and abiding a Christian is free from bondage to sin and condemnation.

As it relates to 2nd Corinthians we as Christians have freedom from the scrutiny of the Ceremonial Laws there is not a work that anyone can do that will save them (2nd Timothy 1:9; Galatians 2:16). As a Christian we are free from the ministration of the letter of the law this includes the Moral and Civil law; the administering penalty often was death. However there is a standard for judgment regardless how we slice the Scriptures, God is Just. Again no one is saved by or because works nor are we as Christians above the Moral Law or Civil laws as they are applicable to the culture we live in. We are saved by GRACE through FAITH yet we do not have a license to sin. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known ****, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Galatians 2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.

The goats and the sheep of Matthew 25 have one measure of judgment given, of the three parables given neither of the three individually gives a complete /exhaustive depiction as to our being totally prepared nor the grounds for the rewards received (good or bad). Instead each establishes one part of the whole word picture.

I make mention of the sheep and goats because there is a work that does not save but has weighing consequences. The sheep were those on the right, they were in step with God Will, being so this conveys they believed in and of Him and were obedient. However the combination of faith and works does not cause one to be saved (eternal salvation.) Works are a RESULT of a Believer being saved, not a CONDITION for it. The relationship between faith and works is that works are the result of faith. True faith produces good works, good works are the result faith, not a contributing factor to salvation.

There is a work that God desires of those who believe:

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. 2nd Timothy 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. Titus 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

The reason that the Holy Spirit is essential to help people see the truth clearly and be able to grasp it is because He is in us. He is the one that is interrupting God’s instructions to us. He also interrupts our groans to God.

The thing that enables people to come to Christ at is Christ himself. Only He can call us. The freedom that the Spirit gives us when we become Christians is freedom from the laws of the Old Testament.

The Holy Spirit is essential to help people see the truth clearly and be able to grasp it because it is the Holy Spirit that frees the person from the entrapment of the veil and reveals the truth of God's word to them

People come to Christ because God calls them. In His prayer Jesus said to Father God, "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word." (John 17:6); and again in John 6:44, ""No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day."

When we become Christians the Holy Spirit gives us freedom from the letter of the law.

Spiritual truth can only be grasped with spiritual means. Our spirits are dead, so unable to see truth clearly without the aid of the Holy Spirit whose job it is to convict and lead us into truth. We cannot come to Christ without the Holy Spirit being involved. When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit gives us a freedom to understand God’s truth. Prior to this we remain imprisoned in our ignorance and inability to comprehend spiritual things. As Jesus says, it is the truth that sets us free.

The Spirit convicts us. (John 16:7-11) The indwelling Holy Spirit guides us unto all truth. (John 16:13) Submitting to the Spirit’s guidance frees us from the law of sin and death. (Rom 8:2)

The Holy Spirit enlightens the mind and removes and frees the mind from the blindness the satanic world order fosters within human-beings.  Where the Holy Spirit is there is freedom.

The Holy Spirit frees, opens, and enlightens the human mind to receive Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior.   On becoming Christians, the Holy Spirit frees us from the slavery of the law and sin.  The Holy Spirit works within our lives to make us Christ-like human beings.  Christians reflect the glory of God in their lives.

As far as the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we know that Moses was able to enter into God’s presence without a veil and that, because of salvation and the death/resurrection of Jesus, we too when turning to the LORD in faith God provides through His Spirit residing in us the veil that separated us from God brought about by hardened hearts is removed and we are in the presence of God.

So the Christ and the Spirit work conjointly in the Christian’s experience – the LORD comes to us through the ministry of the Spirit – this new covenant is parallel to Moses’ experience of the LORD under the old covenant in that the Spirit in us sets us free from the veil hard-heartedness.

This freedom is all encompassing and includes freedom from condemnation, guilt, sin, death, the old covenant, blindness to the gospel.  Another freedom is we are given direct access to the loving presence of God.

Calvin wrote " It is in the Lord (Christ) that the meaning of all scripture becomes clear. (C K Barrett,2nd  Epistle to the Corinthians. Charles Black:London, 1982, 122.) Paul in these verses continues the refrain of the story of Moses and the veil. Here the veil over Moses face is used as a simile for an understanding of the purpose of the commandments that God had given to Moses . Moses veiled his face because of the people's fear of the Glory on his face. The veil on the minds of the people represents their failure to read the old testament in a fashion that would allow them to see Christ in  that Testament as Paul did.   Ever since there has been a veiling over the understanding of the people. This is only removed by the Lord.(16) [The Lord is really the triune God. Paul never used this term and probably never consolidated the concept in his mind but it seems to be the line of thinking that he follows.) Without the Lord removing the veil of misunderstanding the truth cannot be grasped. It is only God himself, through Jesus the Lord and the enabling of the Holy Spirit that people are able to grasp the full meaning of the Gospel; conversion rests ultimately upon the mercy of God. (122)

The freedom the  Spirit give us when we become Christians is liberty from reading the written law of the Old Testament without seeing Christ in it and freedom from Satan, the god of this age(who) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.(notes). The work of the Spirit is to replace the authority of the old mosaic law and fulfilling the 'new covenant' prophecy of Jeremiah which is written of people's hearts (123) by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is essential to help people see truth clearly and be able to grasp it because He is the Spirit of the Lord, the bringer of light and with this understanding  there is freedom from the law of Moses.

The Holy Spirit is what enables people to come to the revelation of Christ. People are normally blinded by the spirit of this world, Satin. The Holy Spirit brings the truth and light to set them free. Of course, people must accept this revelation or they will never come to Christ.

When we become believers of Christ  the Holy Spirit enlightens us to the fact that Jesus has initiated through His death on the cross, a new and everlasting Covenant that sets us free from the Old Covenant instituted by Moses.

The Old covenant of laws is essentially the same as our pre-Christian status. In both, we are veiled to the truth. Only after Christ came, and to those who accepted Him by the agency of that same Spirit yet through their own free choice, are we able to come to Christ.

The Spirit both draws us toward Him, making it possible to accept Christ, and then validates our acceptance when we do choose Him.

The freedom given to us is one of choice. Only after the Spirit pulls us toward God are we able to make that choice. We can either let Him instill His Spirit in us, or reject His Spirit. The choice is ours. In a way, we make that choice every day in every moral decision we make, but we do so with the Spirit inside of us, guiding and prompting us.

The veil of the law was rent in half as Jesus died on the cross. It was more than symbolism for by ripping the veil in half, into two parts, the old covenant was destroyed. Only the new covenant remains, one which requires no veil.
