creamy7avocado
On 1/5/2012 at 10:36 PM, Pastor Ralph said: Q1. (Galatians 1:4) According to verse 4, for what purpose did Jesus give himself? How does Jesus rescue people today? How does he keep people from falling back into their old ways? Jesus died for all of our sins. The same way He always did, following God's instructions.; according to God's will. Constant prayer to God everyday.
Jonathan Edwards
Christ gave Himself for our sins, and that He would deliver us from this present evil world. Christ is our Redeemer; His precious blood secured "soteria". What a tremendous soteria we have now. Redemption and divine healing are truly for today. In Colossians, Paul underscores that we have been redeemed and translated into the Kingdom of God. People as of today are rescued when they admit they are sinners and accept Christ by faith in the one final sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The results are enormous. God will help these new converts to live in holiness all their days long. To avoid backsliding, it is imperative that the new believer becomes a diligent Bible student. Paul in his letter to the Colossians underscores that. Our minds must be full of spiritual knowledge: the Holy Bible ! Thereby we have the wisdom to live in this perverse and forward generation. Bible study is essential because we live in a time of diverse philosophical schools just like in Galatia and Colosse. Many bizarre cults were widely accepted; the Galatians were brought up in these various religions, and they needed to divest themselves of thinking that took away from the sufficiency of Christ. Krissi
According to verse 4, for what purpose did Jesus give himself? How does Jesus rescue people today? How does he keep people from falling back into their old ways? -- 1. In verse four, Jesus gave himself to "rescue us from the present evil age." I live as if this applies to me, but in the back of my mind I have a smidgeon of fear that it refers to the first century. This is salvation. We are saved from our own sin but in this verse we are also protected from the sin of our circumstances, surrounding or the "present evil age." 2. Jesus rescues us today as He rescued yesterday which is through His offer of salvation given at the same time the Holy Spirit works in our hearts to make us willing to hear Him. 3. Again, God's spirit within us works in conjunction with our will to keep us from backsliding. We have to stay in the word which is a method of keeping our minds conformed to His; we have to stay in prayer which, too, is a way of focusing our thoughts on Him; some of us find fellowship at church which should be uplifting; and those from higher church traditions find liturgy and eucharist a prompt for sanctification.
