RodR
The law was given as guidelines for righteousness. The curse of the law was that it was impossible to keep. Jesus redeemed us from the curse when He died in our place to fulfill the law. The law did not save anyone. All of us, Jews and Gentiles alike receive the promise of the Spirit by faith in Jesus Christ.
linda bass
Paul's argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the "curse of the law" is, all that observe the law are under a curse. No one is justified before God by observing the law and trying to keep the 10 commandments. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by His sacriface on the cross. The basis that Gentiles receive the promise of the Holy Spirit is, that the blessings given to Abraham come to the Gentiles through Christ by faith. Cocoa
Q3. (Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul’s argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the “curse of the law”? On what basis do the Gentiles receive “the promise of the Spirit” (3:14)? The concept of the "curse of the law" is taken from Deut 21: 22-23 and shows us that he who is hanged on a tree, who is guilty of breaking the law, is accursed of God. We too are accursed of God if we try to gain our salvation by following the law as it is impossible for sinful man. Paul's argument is then that we can only gain our salvation in the fact that Jesus hung on the cross for us, to redeem us from the curse of the law. Therefore our faith is in Him. We, who are Gentiles, receive the "promise of the Spirit" , the "blessings of Abraham" through faith in Jesus who hung on the cross for us to redeem us from the curse of the law. Eudora
(Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul's argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the "curse of the law"? Galatians 3:10-14 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. The key to understanding this paragraph is in sorting out when the Greek word ‘nomos’ means God’s Torah and when it means legalistic perversion of it. Most translations fail to make this essential distinction and are not ‘rightly dividing the word of truth‘. For as many as are as are from works of legalism, they are under the curse; for it has been written that “Cursed is everyone who does not abide in all those things which have been written in the scroll of the Torah, (Teachings of God) to do them. We might ask, where was it written? Deuteronomy 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmeth not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen. No one is made righteous in God by legalism is clear because ‘The righteous shall live by faith’, and legalism is not by faith, but ‘the one who does these things will live by them’ Them what? Leviticus 18:5 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. Should there be any doubt whatsoever, righteousness that results from obeying God’s statutes and judgments leads to eternal life. That is the ‘them’. The verse says, ‘he shall live by them’. To make this a stronger statement Paul says ‘the man which doeth those things (the law) shall live by them’ the statutes and the judgments which culminates, ‘the law‘. A statutes are the boundary, the judgments is what is prescribed should anyone go beyond the boundary. Romans 10:5 For Moses described the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. Therefore, in the Old Testament, folks had the same proposal before them that if they had lived with in the framework of the law by faith, they would have received the gift of everlasting Life who would come through the seed of Abraham, (Messiah) because like all those in the faith chapter of Hebrews 11, doing the law by faith was accredited towards them as righteousness until the Messiah would cover their sin and it would be forgotten through the New Covenant. The blessing of Abraham would come to the ‘heathens’ (Gentiles) by means of Messiah Yahushua, so that we could take the promise of the Spirit through faith just like all those mentioned in the faith chapter. Therefore, everyone, both legalist and those who trust by faith will agree that God’s Torah requires obedience to all of its commands, or looking at it from another angle, God does not gloss over sin. Deuteronomy 27:26 Cursed be he that confirmed not all the words of this law to do them. And all the people shall say, Amen. However, in spite of the contrary opinion of many Christian interpreters, Paul’s point is not that imperfect human nature is incapable of keeping all the commands of the Torah. Paul never says this and he doesn’t even try to prove it. On the contrary, the Torah itself, anticipating that people will fall short of complete obedience and thereby go out of fellowship with God states what those who disobey Torah commands must do in order to restore such fellowship; they must repent. God gave a solution to all peoples; repentance. We have a good example in that of King David who committed adultery and murder. God forgave him after he repented. Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Not only was king David forgiven after he repented but these two sin alone that he repented of were willful sins. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit!" King David prayed, "Wash away all my iniquity…Cleanse me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow!" God had commanded the Israelites to use the branch of the hyssop plant for sprinkling the blood of the sacrifices. The sprinkled blood illustrated the great sacrifice of the coming Redeemer who would willingly die, shedding His blood as a payment for sin. King David turned from sin... to God; and he was forgiven. Paul proves ‘not’ that the Torah can not be obeyed perfectly, but that legalist in particular merely just by being ‘legalist’ violate one of the Torah's commands and therefore, on the basis of Deuteronomy 27:26, they do not receive the promise of life, are not found righteous and come under a curse. Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. Once again, Paul was quoting the the law in Torah. On what basis do the Gentiles receive "the promise of the Spirit" (3:14)? The Messiah must come under the curse (vs 13) in order to pay the full penalty for sin required by God's justice. Why did He do this? Why did He trouble Himself? So that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. The blessings that were announced to Abraham were promised not only to the Jew but to the Gentile as well. The blessing comes from being in union with Yahushua so that when He receives what is promised to Him, believers who have their faith and trust in Him will receive it too. What was promised? The Spirit of truth by faith. Remember where Paul began this part of his conversation? Remember the question that he first asked? Galatians 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
lesleeys
Q3. (Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul’s argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the “curse of the law”? Christ redeemed us from the "curse of the law" by becoming a curse for us. Therefore, by our faith in Christ are we set free from the Curse through him becoming the curse and hanging on the cross. Therefore, we become heirs to the promise of Abraham because God declares that the righteous shall live by faith. On what basis do the Gentiles receive “the promise of the Spirit” (3:14)? Jesus redeemed us from the curse that the blessing give to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Dew drenched
Q3. (Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul’s argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the “curse of the law”? “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse of the law”. The law tells us that any one who does not keep the whole law perfectly is cursed. It must be fulfilled in every detail. The scripture also shows us that no one has ever been able to keep the law perfectly (except Jesus Christ). Therefore, we are condemned by the very law that we trust will make us perfect. “What the law could not do, in that it is weak through the flesh, God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Paul says that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, as the scriptures tell us “The Just shall live by Faith” On what basis do the Gentiles receive “the promise of the Spirit” (3:14)? It is based on the fact that “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us by hanging on the tree." He " Who did no sin, neither was any guile found in his mouth,... who his own self bare our sin in his own body on the tree… He made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God through him.” In this passage Paul says that the blessings of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ and that we might receive the promise of the Spirit by faith”

Thanking Joan
We are no longer under the curse of the law because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross and paying for our sins in full. Christ died on the cross and redeemed us from every curse of the law and now one who believes in Jesus and confesses that he is Lord is saved. The Gentiles received the Spirit of God through faith
JoanG
The laws did not allow the people to get to know God on a personal level. They never tried to open up to Him. They were kept from Him by being slaves to the word of the law. There was no love being expressed by them to God. there was only fear and possibly resentment. The Gentiles did not have a fear of God because of the law. They were able to open their hearts freely to the concept of forgiveness and they were able to have belief in all that they were told. They receive the promise of the Spirit based on the love and grace of God because of the belief in Jesus Christ and all that they were taught about Him. lighthouse2014
Q3. (Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul’s argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the “curse of the law”? On what basis do the Gentiles receive “the promise of the Spirit” (3:14)? Paul's argument for salvation basted on the concept of the "curse of the law" is that if they are to obey the law, they must live by the law. For if anyone living under the law is cursed, it is impossible for the law to redeem them. Christ died by hanging on a tree, he became a curse for us to redeem us from the curse, thus he has purchased or freed us from the curse of the law. The Gentiles received the promise of the spirit on the bases that if they believe in Christ in faith and what he has done to redeem them from their sins, then they receive the Holy Spirit as promised by the Lord. Lionwolf
Q3. (Galatians 3:10-14) What is Paul's argument for salvation by faith based on the concept of the "curse of the law"? On what basis do the Gentiles receive "the promise of the Spirit" (3:14)? Paul argues that the law is a curse since no one can keep the law. Jesus became a curse for us in order fo remove our dependence on the law. With Christ's resurrection came grace. Christ became our redeemer by paying the penalty required by the law for our sins. Gentiles now receive the promise of the spirit on the basis of Christ's redemptive sacrifice which removed the curse of the law.
Annie343
CONCEPT CURSE OF THE LAW: The law demanded perfection and that a curse was attached for failure to keep any part of it; the burden of trying to keep the law was seen as a curse, however, no person could keep all of the law; everyone has broken the commandments and everyone is cursed; the "curse of the law" was transferred from sinners to Christ; Christ willingly allowed himself to become cursed for all humanity (endured the crucifixion); in his death, Jesus broke the curse; salvation and sanctification come by faith not works; need to depend on God for our justification GENTILES AND THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT: blessing was given to Abraham to come to the Gentiles; Jesus showed that his work on the cross applied to everyone; purpose for Jesus Christ bearing the curse of the law was to open the door of blessing to all men; having been justified by faith will by faith receive the promised Holy Spirit; Jesus made a curse that all may come and partake of the benefits of His salvation; the promised Spirit is for all; True sons of God are those who are led by the Spirit of God;

Jonathan Edwards
All who seek salvation by works of the LAW are under a curse, due to the fact it is impossible to keep the LAW and its standards. ALL THINGS IN THE LAW: rituals, feasts, eta---there is strict obligation to keep all of them, and the Ten Commandments as well (Leviticus 18:5). By FAITH! What splendid news! We are the spiritual sons of Abraham ! Christ has bought us back from the curse of the Law (sodzo) and we have soteria ( life in Christ). By the atonement of Christ, we have zoe..all sins, all diseases are all atonement and removed from in God's plan. Per Colossians 2:14, the LAW of Moses has been removed, we are not under its curse and eternal death penalty. We have entered the Holiest of Holies, we aren't Outer court Christains but part of the royal priesthoo. The Galatians were acquainted with spurious mystery religions based on fables, Gnosticism and a form of Judaism that wanted to get the Galatians into bondage from whence they came from. Krissi
The law seems to put on us an all-or-nothing demand, that we obey it entirely or we forfeit any particular act of obedience we have done. Because we are not capable of obeying the entire law, we have unintentionally forfeited our claim to perfection, which is what this is about. We are either perfect or cursed. There are no half-way points -- God's approach to sin is binary: perfect or cursed. Those who neglect to do any tiny demand of the law are cursed. So Paul is saying to the Jewish Christians that they are as cursed as the Galatian Christians because they know the law yet haven't done it. Only faith matters, then. Since it is impossible to live up to the law, we need a go-around, a way to re-approach God -- we approach God through our faith in Christ's redeeming act on the cross. We are, thus, redeemed from the curse of the law when He became our curse, our sin. I think of redemption in the context of bond trading. I know this is silly, but when a bond trader repays a bond before its due/maturity date, he redeems that bond. Christ's death is somewhat like this. We have a due date (the great judgment at the end) yet Christ came to redeem us, or buy us out, before that date, thus incurring a penalty which He paid on our behalf.
