Delivered
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? Both Jews and Gentiles were enslaved to the elemental spirits of the universe; Legalism, the perversion of God's holy law enslaved the Jewish people, and the Gentile nations were enslaved to the paganism of the flesh not knowing the one "TRUE GOD" of Israel and his Son. What does "redeem" mean in verse 5? The meaning of "redeem" is that we might all be "RESCUED" from those things that enslaved us, and in its place as true "Sons of God" our lives are now free, "LIBERATED" to be subservient to the following of the Holy Spirit's lead. What are the implications of adoption regarding a person's legal and spiritual rights? We, whose lives have been REDEEMED, RESCUED, are by adoption true sons of God, the Holy Spirit has enslaved the heart and as true sons of God our lives BEAR WITNESS to our spiritual rights - we are true "HEIRS" of God - We in the Messiah are "FIRST CLASS". What are the implications of adoption regarding a person’s legal and spiritual rights? We're slave to sin. Redeem means that we don't have to sin anymore, and that we don't have to suffer the consequences if we do. Adoption gives you the full righs of a son. Meaning we can have it all. hanks
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? What does "redeem" mean in verse 5? What are the implications of adoption regarding a person's legal and spiritual rights? Both the Gentiles and the Jews were children in bondage – both being morally and spiritually immature. As Paul explained, they were like an heir during childhood – no better off than a slave. Only when the ‘fullness of time’ had come did God both redeem and adopt His children. So God first sent His Son into the world and then He sent His Spirit into our hearts – we now cry ‘Abba, Father!’ – having become heirs and children of God, adopted into His family. Redeem as mentioned in verse 5 means ‘to set free by paying a price’. Jesus came to set us free. He purchased us to make us sons and daughters. Since we are now adopted into God’s family and heirs we may begin drawing on our inheritance right now. I read somewhere what God has made available to us: The riches of His grace (Eph 1:7); The riches of His glory (Phil 4:19); The riches of His goodness (Rom 2:4); The riches of His wisdom (Rom 11:33); And all the riches of God found in Christ (Col 1:19). Travis63
In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? Improper sense / understanding of piety. Mankind in a sense Jew and Gentile were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. Verse 3 "Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world." The key word "world" "When talking about the Jewish experience, it was the Mosaic law in its condemnatory and supervisory functions that comprised the Jews' 'basic principles' of religion. Later in verse 9 when talking about the Gentile experience, it was paganism with its veneration of nature and cultic rituals that made up the Gentiles ''basic principles' of religion." Paul's point is that the prior to the Messiah's coming, both Jews and Gentiles were under bondage. They both need freedom from their slavery. For a trained rabbi to say such a thing is amazing. Longenecker, "Paul's lumping of Judaism and paganism together in this manner is radical in the extreme.... For Paul, however, whatever leads one away from sole reliance on Christ, whether based on good intentions or depraved desires, is sub-Christian and is therefore to be condemned. What does "redeem" mean in verse 5? Debt resolved, liberated, bought back, paid in full What are the implications of adoption regarding a person's legal and spiritual rights? The inference, that which is implied regarding a person's legal and spiritual rights is that those in Christ are inheritor. The person that is in has access to the same intimacy with God the Father that God the Son, Jesus Christ had. Through Christ Jesus a person is released from slavery. By way of receiving that indescribable act on the cross we have redemption; we are all heirs to God's Kingdom.
Highohfaith
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? What does “redeem” mean in verse 5? What are the implications of adoption regarding a person’s legal and spiritual rights? Prior to Christ coming, both Gentile and Jews were under bondage.Jews were under the bondage of the law, and Gentiles were under the bondage of their pagan rituals. They both needed freedom from their slavery. Redeem means to purchase, buy back, but in this sense it means to liberate us from bondage. As adopted children of God we receive full son ship. We are full heirs to the Kingdom of God. All that God possesses becomes ours.
JanMary
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? They (and we) were all born into a fallen world and enslavement to Satan who is the ruler of this world. What does “redeem” mean in verse 5? It means to "buy back that which once belonged to the owner, and was lost." (It's like this: A priceless diamond was stolen from me and was lost! Later it was found in a pawn shop, and I was able to purchase or redeem that which was once mine." What are the implications of adoption regarding a person’s legal and spiritual rights? Adoption confers on the adopted one, the same legal and spiritual rights as a natural born child. Jesus' sinless shed blood was the enormous price paid to the usurper to purchase us back to the rightful place as sons and daughters of our Father! Lion of Grace
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? What does “redeem” mean in verse 5? What are the implications of adoption regarding a person’s legal and spiritual rights? Both Jews and Gentiles were enslaved by being born of a woman and born under law. Both Jews and Gentiles were in bondage under the basic principles of the world. For the Jews it was Mosaic law and for the Gentile it was paganism. Both needed freedom from slavery. Redeem in verse 5 means: To buy back or to deliver someone. To liberate, with the purpose to receive full rights as sons and daughters of God, brothers and sisters of Jesus Himself. The implications of adoption as sons and daughters is that our status in God's family is complete. We are seated with Him in the Heavenly realm and Christ Himself is seated at His right hand, the place of honor as Son and heir. All that God possesses is now given to us to possess. We have been adopted with full status as sons and daughters of the living God, brothers and sisters of Jesus himself. Since we are a son, God has also made us an heir. Old Jerry
The sense that both Gentiles and Jews are enslaved is that we have all sinned and are condemned to death. “Redeem” means that Jesus has taken our sins and we are no longer condemned to death but we are to be with him in the Kingdom to come for eternity. The implications of adoption regarding a person’s legal and spiritual rights are that we will be heirs with Jesus and we will share the things that He gets. RodR
Slaves do what they are told to do because they are told to do it. The law was given as a list of requirements for righteousness. It showed what sin was and what one needed to do not to sin. It didn’t save or redeem anyone. Christ came to redeem (purchase, liberate, rescue, ransom) us from the requirements of the law and make us sons and daughters of God. We are now heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. (Rom 8:17) As heirs, we obey out of love and not out of duty.

Cocoa
Q3. (Galatians 4:3-5) In what sense were both the Gentiles and the Jews enslaved? Both were enslaved by the belief that they could attain salvation by works. The Jews were in bondage to the law, and to the false belief that they still were required by the new covenant to be circumcised, and the Gentiles believed in the “elemental” forces of nature to save them. What does "redeem" mean in verse 5? Redemption is liberation from slavery! Wow! We are liberated out from the slave master, the Devil, the father of lies! No longer has death any hold over us. What are the implications of adoption regarding a person's legal and spiritual rights? The implications are eternal and generational! The benefits of a legal adoption cannot be disputed. The privileges of a son are bestowed, in full, to the adoptee. So spiritually, there is authority not obtained whilst under bondage. Our spiritual authority, in Jesus, is final. I am now a co-heir with Christ. I am an heir of the blessing of Abraham. As Galations 3:29 states, “And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise”. So, I have a legal right to enter the throne room of grace, and to spiritually obtain “mercy and find grace to help in time of need “ (Heb 4:16). Legally, I am a true child of God. Spiritually, I have confidence in my Father, as a co-heir with Christ. We come in the name of the Lord, with His legal and spiritual authority.
