IvoryEagle
Q2. (Galatians 6:7-8) What does it mean to "sow to the flesh"? What does this look like? What synonyms does Paul use for "sow to the Spirit" in Galatians? (Hint: see 5:16, 18, 25). What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? The Bible describes it best: Galatians 5:16-25--(NKJV) Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the **** of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[a] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,[b] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Delivered
Q2. (Galatians 6:7-8) What does it mean to "sow to the flesh"? Sowing to the flesh is contrary to sowing to the Spirit, it means a person is sowing SIN. What does this look like? It is a very sad sight indeed to see someone who calls themselves a Christian and they do not sow to the spirit, as they continue to walk in the flesh, (SIN) Walking in "SIN" is contrary to God's law. It is sad that they do not understand what Paul was teaching, this is not "GRACE". What synonyms does Paul use for "sow to the Spirit" in Galatians? (Hint: see 5:16, 18, and 25). The believers who sow "FRUIT" are those who follow the Spirit's leading them into that of righteousness, God's love laws. Those who "SOW" fruit are those who have had their hearts "CIRCUMCISED" - They are the ones who are not under the "LAW" to do them, they are under God's "GRACE" to do them, and in so doing we will see "LOVE" being sown, returning back 30, 60, or a 100 fold, since it grows out of the Holy Spirit and not that of the "LAW". charisbarak
Behaving in the flesh rather than the Spirit It looks like someone who is not a Christian--yet called themselves a Christian. Sow to the Spirit--live by the Spirit, led by the Spirit, keep in step with the Spirit A congregation who has sown to the Spirit is a yielded, unified body caring for one another more than themselves and reaching out to the lost A congregation who has sown to the flesh is splintered, with factions, shriveling, not effective at evangelism--an unhappy bunch! Marloes
Q2. (Galatians 6:7-8) What does it mean to “sow to the flesh”? What does this look like? What synonyms does Paul use for “sow to the Spirit” in Galatians? (Hint: see 5:16, 18, 25). What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? "Sow to the flesh" means you do what your body wants, like going with men, getting drunk, etc. At the moment we think it's nice, but God has given rules, because it's not always good for us. "Sow to the Spirit" means you do something that builds up the Church, like encouraging other christians, or praying, etc. Sowing in the flesh is very unhealthy for a congregation. For example, I've heard about a pastor who asked in church if people could help a brother who wanted to leave his wife for another sister to move... And my mama left church with us many years ago because of all the hypocrite behaviour and gossip. We're not allowed to hurt brothers and sisters, so even making them leave church is very bad. Travis63
What does it mean to "sow to the flesh"? Ignoring the Holy Spirit's leading, not renewing our minds according to the Holy Spirit; acting on thoughts of corruption, Doing things that pleases our sinful desire. Makes provision for the indulgence of carnal appetites and passions. What does this look like? It looks bad! It looks like focusing on ones self vise loving the Lord and others. Carnal thinking, focusing on the things that pleases only ones self. The flesh is devoted to selfishness. In Sowing, the person is basically making diligent efforts to accomplish those thoughts / desires according to their own accord, their own way of thinking. David saw Bathsheba and desired her, he was sowing to his flesh. All leading up to the destructive act, and the commencement of the act was corruptible. All that he reap from the act was destructive, greater than the corruptive thought and the act. In the thought process David was not thinking about Bathsheba's welfare, nor was he thinking about God's Will for / in his life. His focus was intently on exploring his sexual passion towards Bathsheba. Sowing into the flesh ultimately leads to producing the works of the flesh, (anger can lead to hating can lead murder). The final harvest for those who live a carnal, sensual life is destructive, and can be of their destruction, death spiritually or physically. What synonyms does Paul use for "sow to the Spirit" in Galatians? (Hint: see 5:16, 18, 25). Walking, living, being lead by the Spirit What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? The look is beautiful, the people are under the guidance and influences of the Holy Spirit devotion is shown unto God, good works that convey love of others are prevalent. Mercy and grace exist horizontally and vertically. Peace is resides in the atmosphere, sanctification occurs as people are growing in Christ vise dissipating Spiritually and viewing grace as a vantage point.. What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? Albescence of the Fruit of the Spirit and it's benefits; no desire to crucify / mortify the flesh; surrender to the influence of Satan (becoming Satan's servant / slave); becoming Satan's toxic mule; disunity, backbiting, rudeness , etc..; destruction /death (Spiritually and possibly physically.) hanks
To ‘sow in the flesh’ is to gratify our sinful nature with its evil passions and desires. Earlier, in Galatians 5:19-21, Paul told us and warned us about the acts of the sinful nature, ‘The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God’. This sowing to the flesh looks like, and will result in decaying flesh, disaster, destruction and corruption. However, we have a choice; instead of sowing to the flesh we can sow to the Spirit. The synonyms Paul uses for ‘sow to the Spirit’ are: live by the Spirit, led by the Spirit, in step with the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and set the mind on the Spirit. We must decide either to invest in the flesh or in the Spirit. We shall reap whatever we have sown, and we shall reap in proportion as we have sown, 2 Cor 9:6. ‘Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.’ The believer who walks in the Spirit and sows in the Spirit is going to reap a spiritual harvest. If his sowing has been generous, the harvest will be plentiful, if not in this life, certainly in the life to come. When we come to sowing the flesh or the Spirit in a congregation, we have the same results (harvest) depending on what we sow. Paul distinguishes between the two harvests as well as between the two sowings. The results are logical. If the congregation sow to the flesh, they shall from the flesh reap corruption, and a process of moral decay will set in. The alternative is moral and spiritual growth. The good seed of God’s Word must be sown faithfully, no matter how distasteful it may be to the congregation. We will do well to remember what Paul said in Colossians 3:1-2, ‘Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.’
JanMary
Q2. (Galatians 6:7-8) What does it mean to “sow to the flesh”? What does this look like? It looks exactly like the corrupt world we live in. It's a life of sensuality, love of pleasure, self centeredness....doing everything "that comes naturally" to the fallen human nature! Timothy described it as: "Lovers of self, utterly self centered, aroused by an inordinate greedy desire for wealth, proud and arrogant, contemptuous boasting, abusive, rebellious, ungrateful, unholy and profane." II Tim. 3:2 It's human nature living without God! What synonyms does Paul use for “sow to the Spirit” in Galatians? (Hint: see 5:16, 18, 25). "Walk and live habitually in the Holy Spirit", "Responsive and controlled by the Spirit", "Guided by and led by the Spirit", "If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit." What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? A congregation which is "reverent toward God, worshippers and sincere lovers of God and of each other as well as "outward looking toward their community", unselfish givers, "doing unto others as they would have others do unto them", sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit (rather than making their plans and asking the Lord to bless what they've come up with apart from His leading", a joyful church, accepting and welcoming rich, poor, sinners, saints, the high born, the lowly and down and out, equally. A congregation which is growing and welcoming to the Holy Spirit's presence in their midst. A church which is a mixture of races, all getting along. The Word is preached and received (not just the pastors favorite parts or which are considered the "milk" which goes down easily)...actually, I'm describing the wonderful church the Lord led us to 9 years ago...It's been called "A Miracle Church"...because it's all of the things I've described, and more. What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? This congregation may "look good" for a time with outward displays of "Christian" behavior, but having no inward transformation. The flesh is corrupt apart from the saving and cleansing by the blood of Jesus, so a "fleshy" congregation is full of strife, moral decay, phoniness, back biting, striving for the perceived "high" positions, competition. Individuals lean toward traditions, even when those are not Biblical. Factions abound and the devil gains a foothold where Jesus is no longer "high and lifted up". Eventually the pastor will leave for greener pastures or be forced to leave depending upon where the problem lies. Christ is dishonored and an ugly stain is left in the community toward Christianity, since this is the "name" on the church building! hmk
Sowing to the flesh is looks selfish. Sowing to the Spirit looks like unity. Sowing to the Spirit - prayer, reading the Bible, but not only reading it, obeying it.
Lion of Grace
To sow to the flesh means to please self and to follow after the world and the **** of the flesh and the **** of the eyes and the pride of life. It means if it feels good looks good and is all about "me".....then do it! We gratify our sinful natures. What does it look like? It looks like sin and a lot of it! In this text it is as stated: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, orgies and the like. To sow in the Spirit, according to Paul is to be led by the Spirit. We will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature, we will not be under the law and we will keep in step with the Spirit. Sowing in the Spirit, in a congregation looks like a manifestation of the fruit of the Spirit. There will be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. There will be unity with each other for a common purpose. The Kingdom of God and salvation of souls. The result of a congregation sowing in the flesh is disunity, fighting, immorality, slander and gossiping. There is competition and lack of integrity. There is jealousy and agendas to push through. There is no common goal because each one is looking out for themselves. Our eyes get off of Jesus and our purpose and we become inwardly focused. Everyone does what is right in their own eyes and truth is lost.

What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? What does it mean to “sow to the flesh”? The person who sows in the flesh cannot walk with the Spirit. The two are in opposition to each other. A person sowing in the flesh desires fleshy, worldly things as their first priority. Paul warns about such things as sexual immorality, idolatry, witchcraft, hate, jealousy, debauchery,as well as other sins of the flesh. You can't have both. You either choose to plant your seed and grow the fruit of Holy Spirit, which is righteousness, or plant your seed and watch it wither and die, be destroyed through sin. What synonyms does Paul use for “sow to the Spirit” in Galatians? Walk by the Spirit. Led by the Spirit. Live by the Spirit. Keep in step with The Spirit. What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? It is a congregation whose main priority is teaching the righteous word of God. It is a congregation who not only teaches the Fruit of the Holy Spirit, but also seek to emulate the fruit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. The greatest of these is love. It will be a very loving, kind, and caring congregation of God's children. What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? There will be no results, They will simply cease to be; self destruct! They will reap what they sow. Without the chief cornerstone, they will fall into destruction. Ephesians 2:20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.

Eudora
Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. What does it mean to "sow to the flesh"? What does this look like? Sowing into ourselves. If we are looking for a reward because of what we have sown then we have sown into ourselves. When we sow into ourselves we only sow something that will never show glory to the Lord, so that would be a bad and possibly evil thing because it only glorifies the flesh. We are to do good towards all mankind for the glory of the Lord. What synonyms does Paul use for "sow to the Spirit" in Galatians? Walking, stepping or keeping in step with and living, all of it is our faith in action. What does sowing to the Spirit look like in a congregation? The law of harvest is not only that a person reaps what he sows, whether good or bad, but that the harvest is always greater than the planting. What are the results in a congregation of sowing to the flesh? Lord Yahushua would be high and lifted up above any name in that congregation and the fruit of the Spirit would ALWAYS be observed. What ever we plant we should plant for the glory of the Lord, especially to the family of those who are trustingly faithful.
RodR
“Sowing to the flesh” is making choices that are not conducive to growing in Christ. When we reject the Spirit’s leading we sow to the flesh and produce the acts of the flesh (Gal 5:19-21) If we sow to the spirit, we "live" in Him, are "led" by Him, and "keep in step" with Him in an increasing measure. When a congregation is increasingly sowing to the spirit, God uses their individual strengths to “encourage one another and build each other up.” (1 Thess. 5:11) When the congregation is sowing to the flesh they may destroy one another.
