Tasha777
Nothing seemed sacred to Saul even he was anointed king & knew of God. To send three lots of men & then go his-self when he heard they were all prophesing, then to acctually prophesy as well, he still had no regard for God at all. God is all powerful,it seems whenever the the Holy Spirit comes upon people, they start prophesying, in Sauls time & also at pentecost; it is the power of God, we may not understand it, there are many things I do not understand, but just to have faith & trust in God in all things. The Holy Spirit came on the day of pentecost, Jesus told his disciples to stay in the upper room & wait, then the Holy Spirit came upon them, they prophesied & spoke in tounges. Bill1
Sauls faith is nill..he has none. He uses "faith" only for his benefit and when it pleases him. Because the HS takes control. The HS came over those at Pentecost and took control. When the HS is in control, you're not.
WinstonY
Q3. (1 Samuel 19:18-24) What does it tell us about Saul’s faith that he pursues David even when he has sought the sanctuary of the prophet Samuel? Why do people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them? What is the relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)? Saul's Pursuit off David to the sanctuary indicates that Saul has lost his faith in God and that he has put himself and his kingship above his faith in God The reason that people prophesy when the spirit comes upon them could possibly be because of the ecstasy of the moment it gives them inspiration to speak of that which they see and say that which they normally would not be able to see. This incident in Samuel is probably a forerunner of the day of Pentecost.
steveamooti
Saul's faith in God had been totally obliterated by faith in his power and tradition, so that even when the Holy Spirit forced him to prophesy (he must have been told when he regained his consciousness), he still refused to realise his folly and return to God. So it seems to me that people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes on them to lay or strengthen the foundation of their faith. This does not seem to have happened for Saul the first time, and neither did it happen the second time; but clearly this was the case for the believers on the day of Pentecost (at least for some of them since the Bible does not tell us what later happened to most of those gathered together when the Holy Spirit struck)
DJW
He seems confused or misguided in his understanding or belief in God's reality. His faith is actually very small, yet his dabbling with the spiritual is profound. I think the Holy Spirit is the binder between our spirit and God so it can overwhelm people and be used as a vehicle for God to speak. It can also provide discernment to identify when God does speak or when its a false demon and not the almighty God or Jesus. the relationship is the similarity of God having his way through the Holy Spirit and communicating through and to various people. The power of the Holy Spirit was on display to be witnessed and written about as an informative and instructive component of Gods word to us. The Bible! crissy464
David had fled to Samuel and told him all that Saul had done to him In flying to Samuel he made God his refuge, trusting in the shadow of his wings; where else can a good man think himself safe. If we expect answers of peace to our prayers, we must open our ears to God’s word. Saul had sent his men to get David, but they could not bring him back. So Saul went himself, but he saw that David was under the special protection of Heaven. It seems Saul thinks because he's the King that he has the power to do anything, but God has the power and God only.
Irmela
Q3. (1 Samuel 19:18-24) What does it tell us about Saul's faith that he pursues David even when he has sought the sanctuary of the prophet Samuel? Why do people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them? What is the relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)? Would it be faith that was needed to pursue David, who was actually not an enemy but an asset to Saul's kingdom? It sooner seems to be madness that is making Saul try to kill David. (Was Saul aware that David had been anointed as the future king of Israel). I think Saul has one thing in mind and that is to kill David. Out of pure jealousy because of David's success and open love of God and relying fully on God for his successes. That he is prepared to follow him to Samuel, shows total disregard for God and His dealing. The Holy Spirit takes total control and He then speaks through them. On the Day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit also came upon those present and took over the gathering. He intervened. In this instance He did the same. Krissi
1. What does it tell us about Saul’s faith that he pursues David even when he has sought the sanctuary of the prophet Samuel? Saul is obsessed with the idea of losing his powerful kingship to David ... he cannot cope with losing, emotionally. The fact that he continues to pursue David even after promising not to do so shows how his control over his own mind and emotions was quite limited. This could be due to a demonic influence or it could be an out-of-control character flaw. When a leader has unlimited power as did Saul, the expression of all character traits, good or bad, is unrestricted. When "normal" people have negative character traits, those traits have to be repressed in order to survive or thrive -- when powerful people have negative character traits, however, there are no direct and immediate consequences for letting those traits be actualized. Thus, Saul's obsessive hatred of David wasn't tempered by others 2. Why do people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them? Sometimes they do, most of the time they do not. In Christian history, prophesy seems quite rare. The Holy Spirit, when it comes on a person, is manifested in a myriad of different ways, prophesy only being one of them. 3. What is the relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost? This is another example of the Spirit coming upon a people (group) and, in this case, manifesting Himself as tongues, mostly. As it is a post-Christ, New Testament example, clearly the Spirit still comes on people as it did in the day of David and Sul.
Nicolaas A.P. Mostert
Q3. (1 Samuel 19:18-24) What does it tell us about Saul's faith that he pursues David even when he has sought the sanctuary of the prophet Samuel? Nothing is sacred Saul, his fear and need to control have pushed him to total rebellion against God. Why do people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them? Holy Spirit moves people from their intent to kill David to speaking the things of God. What is the relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)? Resulting in prophecy. LadyT
Q3. (1 Samuel 19:18-24) What does it tell us about Saul's faith that he pursues David even when he has sought the sanctuary of the prophet Samuel? Saul has forgotten the Lord. He's fighting hard to try and prevent what God has already said is going to happen. He's even disrespecting Samuel, who did a lot for Saul and mourned on his behalf in spite of God. Why do people prophesy when the Holy Spirit comes upon them? Honestly, I don't know. I would like to think that the Spirit still comes strongly on believers and that we can use this to get an in-your-face message from the Lord. What is the relationship between this incident and the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)? I haven't gotten that far.
