The transcendent holiness of God, emphasized in Isaiah’s vision, is a basic aspect of his message. God is a holy God, and He demands holiness from His people, a holiness He will give to them if only they will repent, turn from their evil ways, and submit to Him in faith and obedience. Dove81
Why do you think Yahweh revealed himself in this way to Isaiah? Isaiah was grieving over the death of Uzziah. For he knew that he at one point in his life followed Gods ways. I believe Yahweh revealed Himself to Isaiah the way He did to remind him of who He is. He’s great and almighty. All honor and glory belong to Him. He is Omnipresent present the creator of everything. In what ways does this vision reveal God’s majesty? It shows that He is the light of the world. A sovereign God, all powerful all knowing and all seeing. It also shows that God wants to communicate with His creation. What do we learn about Yahweh from the serphaim’s chant? They used Holy three times which shows us that God is set apart from everything thing else. His holiness is at the highest degree possible. They are covered to humble themselves before our great King. They sing with praises not even to Him yet in His presence and at such a degree of greatness that it caused the doorpost to shake an a cloud of smoke to appear. Again to show how great God is. We as Yahweh’s creation in His image need to have the same level of respect for Him as the serphaims. We have way more to be great fun for. Krissi
I'm not certain why God chose to reveal Himself in this way ... and not other ways. He vision comes on the heels of his threats -- the "woes" upon Judah so I imagine that his vision somehow emphasizes the threat because of His power or His ability to make good on those threats. God's power is connected to His majesty logically and in reality. The fact that there are no other beings with His power sets God apart -- He is wholly others, ultimately powerful. His majesty derives from His power. We often describes kings and judges as "his/her Majesty" or even mountains as "majestic" but here, we're describing God using this near-superlative. The Seraphim's chant reveals three aspects of God, as Pastor Ralph wrote: God's holiness, His might and how creation exhibits His glory. crissy464
The throne is for God; that is where He rules and reigns. The altar is for us; that is where we find cleansing and purging from sin. We should never confuse the two.
Anna Rogers
Why do you think Yahweh revealed himself in this way to Isaiah? In what ways does this vision reveal God’s majesty? He wanted to show Isaiah His majesty, which he did, by being on a throne, having a robe that filled the temple, having seraphim constantly praising him, the shaking of the post if the door and the smoke that filled the house. What do we learn about Yahweh from the serphaim’s chan? We learn that He is Holy and the whole earth is filled with His glory. The repeating of the work holy could be just emphasis but it could also be Holy Father, Holy Son and Holy Spirit.
Durai
Q4. (Isaiah 6:1-4) Why do you think Yahweh revealed himself in this way to Isaiah? In what ways does this vision reveal God’s majesty? What do we learn about Yahweh from the serphaim’s chant? Ans: God wants to show Isaiah’s miserable state as he was groaning and complaining the plight of people of Judah. Until unless he sees the majesty of God and the great calling that awaits him, he won’t stop. This is the vision that turned Isaiah’s life upside down. For the one who has seen and adored only King Uzziahs throne so far, swept off his feet and made him to cry as woe to me, I am undone and I am a man of unclean lips. This is most dramatic scene angels flew unto him with a live coal taken from the altar. The vision of the king of kings and thundering voice of the Lord and flying seraphim’s around - what an encounter of majesty? The Holy, holy, holy - The Lord of Hosts - Glory is ready to be bestowed upon the ones who is willing,
Bryan
I believe that God revealed himself to Isaiah in this way, so that in the future, when coming kingdoms would be seeking to destroy Israel, he could compare the relative majesty of God to the insignificance of the world leaders. Just as a single picture cannot truly capture the significance of a mountain range, the words of Isaiah cannot capture the majesticness of God. We catch a glimpse of God but cannot help but wonder at what we can't see.
Katy
Q4. God was making it clear to Isaiah and to us, just how Holy, powerful and glorious He is. Often we can read about Holiness, or Glory but not truly understand it. In these verses Isaiah experiences these things in his vision, this gives him a greater understanding and so he can deliver God’s message to the Israelites with more conviction and more personal understanding of the greatness and awesomeness of God. The vision reveals God’s majesty by the splendour and majesty of the setting. The throne is placed high up overlooking everyone and everything. God is surrounded by seraphim who continually chant about God’s Holiness. At the sound of their voices the doorposts shook and the room was filled with smoke. Irmela
Q4. (Isaiah 6:1-4) Why do you think Yahweh revealed himself in this way to Isaiah? In what ways does this vision reveal God's majesty? What do we learn about Yahweh from the seraphim's chant? Jan Mary's explanation includes more facts than the others, on the first question. Powerful observation taken or conclusion given. In his grief Isaiah needed to see that God was the ultimate ruler. He was still KING on the THRONE. He was 'high above'. There was no compromise with sin. Isaiah's mission was not an easy one and this vision was bound to remind him always of Who Adonai was. There would be no doubt whatsoever. Adonai's majesty is revealed by the setting of the vision. He was high and lifted up, i.e. far above earthly thrones. The 'train of the robe' filled the temple, symbolizing that He has defeated every enemy. He is and has absolute authority, there is no room for anyone else in this high-exalted place. In Isaiah's time, a king's robe would have a train made up of the pieces of the robes of defeated kings. The longer the train, the more important the king. Isaiah would clearly have understood the vision as such. Adonai had conquered all !!!!!!! The Seraphim has 6 wings and one face. The Seraphim 'protect' the HOLINESS of God. They are humble before the mighty presence of God. The Seraphim proclaim Adonai's holiness by calling out Holy, holy holy. It is suggested that by calling out like that, that the triune God is acknowledged and revered. They are acknowledging that He is sacred. He is mighty. His creation is exhibiting His glory, character, perfection and power.
