IvoryEagle
Who was Jesse? Jesse, of course, is the father of David (1 Samuel 16:1; Ruth 4:17), How does his name indicate that this passage speaks of the Messiah? The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed." (Revelation 5:5) "I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star." (Revelation 22:16) What attributes will he have due to the Spirit of God upon him? Isaiah continues with a description of Messiah's character -- in sharp contrast to Ahaz's injustice, idol-worship, and rebelliousness against Yahweh. "2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him --the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD--3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD." (11:2-3a) What do we learn about this Messiah from verses 4-5? The wicked should fear when he pronounces sentence. "4b He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist." (11:3b-5) Who seem to be the victims of injustice and oppression here? The needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth." (11:3b-4a) When the Messiah comes, what will happen to all who involve themselves in injustice? He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Skinnykenny
Jesse is the father of David, and is St. Joseph's great grandfather 14 times removed and likewise Jesse is the Virgin Mary's great grandfather 15 times removed, thus both St. Joseph and the Virgin Mary are of the line of David, therefore through legalities St. Joseph the foster father of Jesus gives his son a noble lineage. The Virgin Mary through her blood by ascendancy gives Jesus his noble lineage. Through the power and authority of God the father and the over shadowing of the Holy Spirit the Son of God is conceived in the womb or the Virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit not only upon and in Jesus, they are one with the Father. Thus, all the substance of divinity is present and therefore all the attributes of same are present. As God spoke and the universe and world were created, and as God breathed life into Adam, and as God with a wind parted the Red Sea whereby Israel was saved and the Egyptians destroyed by the sea crashing upon them. Therefore when God speaks His Word the world will fear when his divine judgment is pronounced upon the earth. The Lord ever hears the cry of the poor in spirit and those in poverty as well as the widow, orphan, alien, weak, defenseless, etc., and He administers true and divine justice. Our Lord comes to destroy the destroyers with His divine Word.

Lion of Grace
Jesse was the father of David. " A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse, from his root a branch will bear fruit." We know his name speaks of the Messiah because in verses 11:10 the Messiah, "the new King from the family of Jesse will stand as a banner for all people." We can also cross reference to the book of Revelation: 5:5 The Lion from the tribe of Judah, the root of David has triumphed. (David son of Jesse) 22:16 I am the root and offspring of David and the bright and morning star. (David son of Jesse) The attributes this Messiah will have are: The Spirit of wisdom and understanding The Spirit of counsel and power The Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord. He will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will be anointed by the Spirit, walk in the Spirit and minister in the Spirit. Verses 4-5 tell us that the Messiah will, "Strike the earth with the rod of His mouth; with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked. Righteousness will be His belt and faithfulness the sash around His waist." The victims of injustice mentioned in these verses are the poor and needy. When Messiah comes, those who involve themselves in injustice will be judged, "Evil people will be punished and by His word, the wicked will be put to death. He won't judge by the way things look (as the world does) He will judge the poor honestly and He will be fair in His decisions for the poor of the land." hanks
Q5. (Isaiah 11:1-5) Who was Jesse? How does his name indicate that this passage speaks of the Messiah? What attributes will he have due to the Spirit of God upon him? What do we learn about this Messiah from verses 4-5? Who seem to be the victims of injustice and oppression here? When the Messiah comes, what will happen to all who involve themselves in injustice? Jesse was David’s father. The passage announces the Second Coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. God’s kingdom will arise by a “Shoot” coming “up from the stump of Jesse”. God made a promise that a Descendant of David will rule over God’s Kingdom forever. This Descendant, “Branch” is our Messiah! We read further about the attributes the Holy Spirit of God will empower Him with. Wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. Added to this are the attributes we read about earlier (v9:6), more wisdom, power, love, and peace – what a mighty Lord we serve! Our Lord will reign with righteousness and faithfulness. He will judge the world, and the needy and the poor will not be oppressed as is presently happening. Ultimately all those involved in injustices and wicked deeds will be slain. Come, Lord Jesus. Come!
Guitar Jim
Q5. (Isaiah 11:1-5) Who was Jesse? How does his name indicate that this passage speaks of the Messiah? Jesse was the father of King David. David was the first of a centuries-long dynasty that ruled Judah in the name of God. God made it abundantly clear many times through the prophets and the psalms that David was the pre-figure of The Messiah. David was the flawed earthly king on whom God's Spirit rested. The Messiah will complete the cycle as it were. He will be from David's direct line. What attributes will he have due to the Spirit of God upon him? Wisdom, understanding, Counsel, power and might, Knowledge of The Lord, Fear of the Lord and Godly respect for The Lord. What do we learn about this Messiah from verses 4-5? He will punish the wicked for oppressing the poor and weak. He will defend the weak. Who seem to be the victims of injustice and oppression here? The most vulnerable, the poor and needy. When the Messiah comes, what will happen to all who involve themselves in injustice? They will be judged and punished.

How does his name indicate that this passage speaks of the Messiah? His wisdom amazes and awes far beyond the wisdom that was given to Solomon; He possesses discernment, understanding; His counsel is perfect and He requires no outside advisors; His power is the power of a true Sovereign to bring about that which He determines to do; He is all seeing; and He has joyful reverence for the LORD.What do we learn about this Messiah from verses 4-5?
