linda bass
The peace that the passage describes is the kind where there is no longer any war or conflict among nations. This peace will extend even into the animal kingdom. Animals that were once natural enemies or predator and prey will live peacefully side by side. According to isaiah 11:9b there will be peace because the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord. "knowledge of the Lord" means that everyone will have a personal relationship with the Lord, not just an intellectual awareness of Him. How widespread this " knowledge" will be is, the whole earth will be filled.
wifee
6a)The passage describes a peace only found in the Messaniac age, through a restored relationship of love with God believing in the sacrifice made by Jesus for each of us,atoning for our sin on the cross. It is a peace where natural enemies will be at peace e.g cow feed near bear etc. b)We see this in part now as we are sanctified, but then it will be complete, perfect peace. This peace extends on my holy mountain,it will encompass the whole earth.Everything will be brought under one head,Christ. c)There will be peace because the earth will have the knowledge of the Lord.At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, d)It means people will turn to Jesus &believing in His salvation for their sins, knowing him personally, receiving the Father’s forgiveness& being at total peace. e)Worldwide Psalm 103:11-12 Jesus died for us all where ever, we are in the world,if we turn to Him, removing our sins from us,as far as the east is from the west, for as high are the heavens are above the earth."And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment --to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ."(Ephesians 1:9-10)Hebrews12:2 instead of focusing on difficulties in life, focus on Jesus, the author&perfecter of our faith. Commissioned
Q6. (Isaiah 11:6-9) The passage speaks in figurative language. What kind of peace does it describe? How far will this peace extend? According to Isaiah 11:9b, why will there be peace? What does “the knowledge of the Lord” mean? How widespread will this “knowledge” be? The passage describes a peace that will come when men will study war no more; when all men will have a personal relationship with God. A time described in Micah 4:3, "The LORD will mediate between peoples and will settle disputes between strong nations far away. They will hammer their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will no longer fight against nation, nor train for war anymore." This peace will extend to the time the Apostle Paul speaks of the full earth recognition of the Messiah in Philippians 2:10-11 when "... at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." At this time the Prince of Peace will rule on the earth and there will be peace on earth. According to Isaiah 11:9b there will be peace because, "the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD." The knowledge of the Lord brings the person to enjoy personal relationship with the Lord not just and intellectual awareness of Him. The will go on into eternity. Darcelle
We will receive eternal peace with full knowledge of the Lord. Peace will extend from earth to heaven - everywhere. There will be peace because we have given our will over to God and have gained knowledge of his will for us. The knowledge of the Lord is the understanding of his power and glory and that we are his children. This knowledge will be spread to all God's children. Krissi
The peace described is a return to life Adam and Eve lived in Eden. This is, obviously, in the future, not now, and will include the entire "full earth." I do not understand why there will be peace, why God chose to let us live in this manner now and return to an Edenic existence later. The psalmist purposely chose the word "knowledge" instead of "love" or "seeing" or other words, so he must mean not only intellectual understanding but a deeper, more soul-like understanding of God. The earth is full -- everywhere contains -- this knowledge.
