l.a. Posted September 21, 2010 Report Share Posted September 21, 2010 Q3. (20:11-12) Why is this awesome scene of judgment so frightening? Why do people seem to resist the idea of a final judgment? I think that the most terrifying thought about judgement is knowing that we stand before a 'all knowing God.' Even though we believe in Jesus and are saved, I cannot deny that God knows every ill thought that I have ever had. The desire to measure up, even though you know you don't. Thank God for Jesus who always gives us the victory! I know there are many who do not think they need a Savior; they think they are pretty good people on their own merit. They seem to have been overwhelmed by the evil in the world, therefore, do not see themselves as truly evil. They are measuring themselves according to man's standards and not God's. The frightening thing is knowing that there is a way to avoid being judged and sentenced to eternal torment in the Lake of Fire - and that there are those that failed to take advantage of it. . . . People seem to resist the idea of final judgment by buying into the idea that grace and mercy prevents God from bringing such horrible things upon people or humanity as a whole. . . They fell to realize that there are two ways through life and that they choose which way they go and where they end up. . . Except to know and accept that by faith in Jesus and by His blood we will escape hell, we know that our lives deserve punishment. That's frightening. Some resist the idea of a final judgment because they are ignorant of the Word, don't accept it as truth, or don't know the all around character of God. Most people decide this out of a post-modern kind of thinking. In it, whatever they decide to accept as truth, is truth to them. They don't want to think of being tormented in hell, so the truth to them just turns into there is no hell. That's what is called walking in darkness and with no light. They will arrayed before us as a finality of our choices (no matter how big or small the sin/mistake). We will be judged for everything that was done, said, thought- even a stray, careless thought will be scrutinized and brought to light in the presence of God. Some people resist the idea of judgement because they are afraid of what will be reveal on that day. Everything thaty someone have done will be heard.The dead will judge also the living. If your name isn't in the book of life, wow, hell you will live for all eternity. For me, that is totally scary just by the thought. People seem to resist the idea of the final judgment because many question themselves on whether their name will be in the book of life. When we leave this world we only take our character. That is what we have done for the Kingdom and the person we have become. No one will escape the final judgment. Some people I believe are afraid because they are not sure if they will measure up to what they should be to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Trust and Obey. They will have to be a true and faithful believer or else they will be turned into the eternal fires. No body will be able to pretent to be a Christian any more. Their true colors are going to be revealed. Some people are not really sure that they have the faith or the salvation needed to get into heaven. This judgment is so frightening because we don’t know if our loved ones will be with us or be thrown into the lake of fire. Only God know the heart.
