Jonathan Edwards
After Christ gave thanks "eucharistesas", He distributed the loaves and fishes. Here StJohn is emphasizes Christ himself as the the Divine Creator. The disciples actually witnessed the actual broken pieces from the original loaves not crumbs that fell on the ground . The number "twelve" suggests that each of the Apostles were employed in the collection of the fragments. These fragments were real signs calling to mind Christ's superabudant graces and love of mankind. Needless to say they must have been deeply moved! They were being trained on the job. Each disciple would find an increase in his hand until each group of people was provided. This food symbolizes the Bread of Life as adapted for the whole race of man. Christ knew that the spiritual wants of their souls were more I finitely important than their bodily needs. CHRISTwas divinely sent to feed a d save us. Irmela
John 6:11) How did Jesus distribute the multiplied loaves and fishes to the multitudes? How do the disciples fit in? How are the baskets used? What impression do you think this is making on the disciples as they work hard during the ongoing miracle? Jesus took the loaves and after He gave thanks He gave to the disciples who distributed to the crowd. So He also did with the fish. The disciples were the vessels He used to serve the people. I can imagine that the food was put into baskets to distribute it easier. After all were satisfied, what was leftover was picked up and 12 baskets full was gathered. I guess they were awe inspired and this enabled them to continue with their task. There is order inspite of it all being miraculous and awe-inspiring.
