Q1. Avoiding Jerusalem

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

Jesus told us everything He did He did in obedience, thus it was the will of the Father that He had to stay in Galilee. It was also safer to stay thereunto God the Father called on Him to fulfill Hospital plans harbour reconciliation.

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

Obedience. whether we stay where we think we are safe or not doesn't matter, if we are where God doesn't want us to be we are exposing ourselves to any type odd attack.

If we walk into a war zone in God's will nothing will happen to us. we are only safe while.we are where He wants us to be.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

It is a blessing to understand that God works in His own time and planning. Often it goes slower that we/I would like. In this way I am a little like Peter was early in Jesus ministry. But was he one that doubted Jesus. It seems not. So it was simply not Jesus' time yet to be sacrificed, for our salvation. His prayers to the Father, and the common sense that His disciples were not yet ready to carry the torch.

God's plan and will shall be done. We can protect ourselves, because we are not yet mature enough to take on any "bigger" mission for the Kingdom. We ought to recognize that it is God's hand leading us in our decisions. We learn that when we are uncomfortable, or discontent by the sped of things in our life, we are rushing ahead of God, not on his plan at all, or maybe just a little off course.

Jesus didn't have this problem, since He was anointed by the Sprint when He was baptized; so His prayers and meditation were keeping Him on course to the Father's plan. Anyway, Jesus know all so He was carrying out the mission as it unfolded be fore Him.

We can also take this approach, by trusting God more and not going faster than our heart feels is right, in our work for the Kingdom.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

God is Sovereign over timing and events...It was not yet time for Jesus to go to Jerusalem. God's leading is often through closed doors, as in the case of Paul and Barnabas when they wanted to go quickly into Asia to preach the Gospel...and God closed the door. Perhaps more pioneering work had to be done in Asia by Apollos, before the area could be penetrated by Paul. The same result happened when they wanted to go to Bithynia...God stayed them. Perhaps Jesus needed more preparation before going, or things in Jerusalem were not in place for Him to advance there.....but He always obeyed His Father, regardless of feelings, or circumstances.

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

I believe the key is being led by the Spirit....fear can stop us in our tracks from attempting to move forward, even though the Lord is nudging us to go forward....if I'm confident He's the One nudging me, I can stop worrying about precautions, and just obey, knowing that I'm in His perfect will for me and He is the only "precaution" needed.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

The way I read it is that Jesus did not avoid going to Jerusalem, as he went to Jerusalem after his brothers left to go to the feast (7: 10). So Jesus avoided going with his brothers. In addition he did not even tell his brothers that he was going to the feast, probably because he could not trust them to be discrete.

In my opinion God requires us to take every precaution to protect ourselves, as much as possible. Jesus knew that there were people out to kill him (7:1) so he chose to go to Jerusalem unannounced. It was not the right time for him to go to Jerusalem in an open way. Jesus knew the time was comming, when that would happen (John 7:6).

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? Jesus did not go up at that time to do miracles as his brethren suggested, because it was not the right time; the Messiah understood the importance of his Father’s timing, and that it not be orchestrated by that of man.

Q2. What is the balance between taking precautions to protect you and trusting yourself into God's care? We are to be wise and use common sense in our daily living; the balancing point is when we put God first and make a habit of listening to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

(John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

1,  He knew that the Jews were waiting to take his life.  His disciples still needed more training to carry out his work after his crucifixion.

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

2.  I believe the balance is that they both require the use to common sense and belief.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

Jesus knew the Jews wanted to kill him.  It was not fear, He came to die for us, but prudence, it would be in God's time and God's way.

His brothers wanted him to go to Jerusalem for various selfish reasons.  Again Jesus wasn't looking for attention and glory from men.  He wanted to do the Father's will and that would bring the Father glory and the Father would glorify the Son in the right time.

I can see some of todays politicians, CEO's, small town mayors, whatever, filled with their own importance and wanting to be recognized while putting on their cloak of false humility.  They always give themselves away.

It is not wrong to avoid situations that will bring unnecessary suffering and death.  If that comes through no means of our putting ourself, out of our own wrong judgement, into the situation we are to pray for strength and the holy Spirit to be with us and that our situation might bring glory to God.  We are to stand fast in the faith at all times.

God Bless!

Jen

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

Jesus had a very specific timetable and if He'd gone to Jerusalem at the height of His popularity and made a big show of it, there'd have been no way to stick to His schedule. His enemies would have ordered Him killed on the spot . . if the people hadn't tried to make Him king by force and started a riot, in which case He'd still have been killed!

He did end up going, but kind of snuck in, out of the limelight.

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

God does indeed take care of us, but we still have to be sensible about how we live our lives. While the Bible contains accounts of how God miraculously saved people from fire, famine, wild animals, overwhelming odds in battles, etc . . We shouldn't necessarily put Him to the test by placing ourselves in precarious situations and then expect God to jump in and rescue us.

(John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

Jesus stayed away from Jerusalem because the Jews there were waiting to take His life. This was not because Jesus was afraid of the Jews or death. Rather, it was because His work on earth was not yet completed. He still had much to do to train His disciples to carry on His work after His death and resurrection.

The balance between taking precautions and trusting in God's protection is to ensure that we live to complete our mission on earth until God calls us home. While we live, God didn't tell us to be stupid and take unnecessary risks. For example, Paul, in his missionary journeys, was often guided by the Holy Spirit and avoided places where his enemies lay in wait.

Verse 1 reveals that Jesus avoided Jerusalem because His physical life was in danger. He didn’t come to earth to die in some kind of senseless ambush by the Jews, who would have killed Him with their bare hands if they could have.  And as He said at other times, His “hour had not come”.    He knew from Psalms and Isaiah that He would die as the Redeemer by crucifixion at the very hour declared by God - and not before.  Jesus trusted His Heavenly Father with the timetable of His life on earth.

God has a personal plan and will for each of us with individual timing, just as He did for Jesus.  We are to trust ourselves into God’s leading and care, but we are not to be reckless with the lives He has given us.  The Holy Spirit will prompt, compel, and give peace when it’s time to move.  In the meantime as we wait on Him with faith, we have a responsibility to use common sense and be responsible – but not obsessive - about our safety.  We need to avoid choices and decisions that we know would put us in harm’s way if we are not being led in that direction by the Spirit.

1.Jesus had much more work to do. He stayed away because it wasn't his time and He knew the people would try to kill him, this tells me it is God's timing not ours.

2. God gave us common sense not to walk into dangerous situation knowing we would be hurt or killed. We depend on the Holy Spirit to protect us us.  If we have dangerous  choices to make we need right then to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us.

Jesus' decision to stay in Galilee was not merely simple prudence or from fear but ultimately based on his obedience to the will of the Father - for the reasons given in the lesson - the timing was not right.

When it comes to trying to discern God's will when making tough decisions, we have to do it with much prayer, much biblical imput, in consultation with our Christian brother and sisters when possible and appropriate and use our common sense that God gave us while trusting God will be with us.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

Jesus stayed in Galilee teaching his disciples and doing miracles because He knew that the Jews in Jerusalem were plotting to kill him. Sarcastically his brothers tried to get him to go to Jerusalem to show himself in public.

The balance in taking precautions to protect yourself and or trusting yourself to God's care is to allow God to do his work in your life, it would do no good to put yourself in danger knowing you could be killed because of an imprudent decision. Jesus knew the Jews were plotting to kill him. it would be obvious that if he went with his followers it would draw attention to him, but trusting in God he went by himself unnoticed and began to teach in the temple. He obviously wanted to teach as many people as possible with out getting himself in to hot water with the leaders of the people.

Like getting out of the boat to walk on water, some moments seem dangerous or uncomfortable. If we don't want to get out of the boat due to old habits, an we at least recognize that though we are new in Christ, we need to pray at that moment and more prayer in general? We/I am of little faith muh of the time. Don't want to admit it. Call it lazy, call it hearing the devil say we can't do it. Do we recognize it? Do we just keep being limitted and making God little when He indeed has no limits?

I sound brave in this moment, but don't be fooled by my words. I have many subtle fears and limits that I feel the need to keep without wanting to say it like I am now. So do we surrender with abandon? DO we ask wise people if we are hearing God? Or something in between?

Its my choice, your choice, and we get to do this every day, many times!

Q1. (John 7:1-5)

Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

God is the all-powerful Creator who maintains and controls everything. Everything occurs according to His schedule. Throughout His earthly ministry we see Jesus complying with this timetable. Here we have Jesus still in Galilee but preparing to return to Jerusalem at the time predetermined in God’s plan. We are not to be foolish and not take the necessary precautions to protect ourselves. However, after protecting ourselves our ultimate destiny is in the hands of God. Our Heavenly Father will help us in our decision making as He does care for our wellbeing.

Jesus stayed in Galilee and avoided Jerusalem because of the hostility of the authorities in Jerusalem.  This allowed him to spend time training his disciples and conducting his ministry in peace and without interruption.

It is important to be aware of God’s constant care for us and to trust in Him.  However, as we are reminded by Jesus himself when he was being tempted by the Devil, we should not put Him to the test.  We should not take risks without the certainty that God wishes us to do so either through following scripture or as a direct call.  For example, there is all the difference in the world between answering a genuine call from God to minister in a place where the Church is persecuted (risking death in the process) and going headlong into danger for no good reason.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

He stayed away from Jerusalem to avoid his enemies who were looking an opportunity to kill him.

We should not willingly expose ourselves to danger as it will be tantamount to testing God. Trusting God does not mean that we should not be rasonable.

1: Jesus purposely avoided Jerusalem because He was aware that some in Jerusalem where going to try to kill him but he knew that His time had not come yet.  He had not completed His ministry.

2:  God did not intend for us to take foolish chances with the missions that he assigns us. There must be a direct calling from God to take His mission into the danger zone.  Satan can and will put harm to the Church in anyway he can including death.  We live in a relatively safe country to bring the word to others but in other parts of the world, Christianity is hunted ruthlessly by the enemy.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem?

Jesus need to minister in Galilee first thats why he eluded those Jews who want to kill him. He is not afraid of them or being killed its just that it is not yet his time.

"After this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life." John 7:1

What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God’s care?

Jesus goal is to do the Father's will. His own self he leaves on to God's care. This is what Jesus is teaching us, to put our whole hearted trust in God and do all things for him alone.

(John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

Jesus avoided Jerusalem because they wanted to kill him. The world was not accepting and sympathetic to Him, but hostile  because He revealed its rebellion and sin.Jesus’ brothers had a difficult time believing in him. Some of these brothers would eventually become leaders in the church (James, for example), but for several years they were embarrassed by Jesus. After Jesus died and rose again, they finally believed. We today have every reason to believe because we have the full record of Jesus’ miracles, death, and resurrection. We also have the evidence of what the Good News has done in people’s lives through the centuries.

Jesus knew that it was not his time to die. He needed to finish the tasks that the Father had sent him to do. He also knew the hearts and minds of those that wanted him dead. He knew that they had their own agenda and were not working on God's purposes. We cannot act foolishly with our lives. Yes, God will protect us, but we need to be proactive as well. We must remember that our being careless is not what God has in mind for us. We are a temple for God. We need to protect that temple.

Q1. (John 7:1-5) Why did Jesus stay in Galilee and avoid Jerusalem? What is the balance between taking precautions to protect yourself and trusting yourself into God's care?

  1. The Jews were plotting to kill Him and He knew that His time (Passover) hadn’t come!  According to God’s plan, Jesus’ confirmation as the Messiah by acceptance of His death on the cross, ultimately leading to the resurrection, was not to take place until the Passover, six months away.
  2. God doesn't promise us blanket protection from life’s adversities but I know that, through my faith, He WILL see me through them and (hopefully) He’ll teach me something along the way.  God doesn’t dispense unconditional guarantees that misfortune and/or tragedy won’t befall us simply because we are a Christian.  That said, it’s incumbent upon us to take reasonable precautions to avoid or prevent them if we can.  When we can’t, He will always be there the see us through it all.  All we need to do in return is Love Him and put our faith in Him and Him alone.

“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”  [Proverbs 22:3]
