JanMary
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus’ words? His Word gradually renews our worldly thinking and ways, washing away or pruning away the old, which enables us to surrender to His Lordship which produces in and through us His Living Water, which bubbles up and flows out to others. According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus’ teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? R.C. Sproul said "we aren't sinners because we sin...we sin because we're sinners. It's in our hearts to sin." God's Word shows us that we are sinners, and need a Savior. As we read, learn, and begin to obey His teaching, we are cleansed, our minds are renewed and He brings freedom from sin and bondage in which Satan held us captive before Salvation. According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus’ teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? Jesus' Word has a moral and spiritual cleansing effect. The effect of obedience and "holding to" Jesus' teaching is freedom from the slavery to sin, and separation from evil. God's Word, when received, has a washing, cleansing, pruning, faith-producing effect on us. We are sanctified by Jesus' words which are true. By obeying the truth, we have purified ourselves. Clarence
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus’ words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus’ teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” If we are obedient to the word of God then we will not be a slave to sin (John 8:34). So believers are set free from sin and death because of salvation and forgiveness (Romans 8:2). Heb 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Jen
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? When we are in Him we are saved totally and completely and our Father begins the pruning process to get rid of the dead and diseased branches in us. He doesn't leave us as the filthy persons we were when He found us, He begins the cleansing and pruning process. When we read His Word we learn the truth about Him and about this world system. We are set free from the lies of the world and from sin to learn to live righteous in Christ Jesus. It is so important to be in His Word. We need it all in us everyday to keep us clean and healthy spiritually. If we stay in Jesus teaching we will not want, be attracted to the deceit and lies of the world and we will be free, no longer slaves to sin, but delivered from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of His Son who is light and truth. Thank you Jesus! God Bless! Jen Numbers 6:24-
Delivered
Q1. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? The purging process cleanses, extinguishes the guilt incurred, repentance expiates their offences; thereby it brings forth the fruit of “obedience,” that enables the cleansing process to bring forth more fruit. Q2. According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching, bring cleansing and freedom from sin? Obedience to the teaching of Jesus, is a goal that will produce a holy people, the cleansing process doesn’t free the branch from sin, it frees the branch from the “desire” to sin, it is because the branch is abiding in the Vine that the branch rejects the thorns and briers that come their way, for without the Vine they understand, they cannot do it on their own. hanks
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? Jesus told the disciples that they have already been cleansed through the Word which He taught them. By listening and obeying our Lord a lot of worldliness had been cut out of their lives. We see this in their acceptance of the call to discipleship and their sacrifices made in following Jesus. Many had also borne fruit. The same applies to us when we study and obey the Word. As we read it and obey it we are cleansed and set apart and made usable by God. We persevere and because we are saved we abide in His Word. Since the Word is the absolute truth we get to know the truth, and it is this truth that sets us free from the bondage of ignorance, sin, law, and superstition. The result is that we get to truly know the Lord Jesus and are delivered from sin, and at the same time we walk in the light and are led by the Holy Spirit. quilter
1.If we have given our lives to Jesus and read his word we are cleansed. To stay cleansed we daily have to repent and studied his word this is how we are exposed to him. We also need to pray for each other and to help others. 2.Jesus himself is the truth that makes us free. He is the source of truth the perfect standard of what is right. As we seek to serve God Jesus perfect truth frees us. The truth will set you free Praise the Lord .
RebeccaMallinson
We are pruned or cleansed by obedience to Jesus’s words, because our lives are reformed in his image. I don’t think the same is true of ‘exposure’. Some listen but are not obedient. According to John 8:31-32 obedience to his word makes us true disciples and we will be freed by the truth. lighthouse2014
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus’ words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus’ teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? We are cleansed or pruned by exposure to and obedience to Jesus words because his word teaches us his truth, how to live our lives because his is Holy. By being obedient to his commands we have received power from the Holy Spirit to over come sin and temptation in our lives. This can be compared to pruning a vine, to get rid of the non productive dead things in our lives that keep us from growing but prepares us for the Kingdom of God. According to John 8:31-32, obeying Jesus teachings helps bring about our spiritual cleansing that helps to empower us against evil and sin. Being born again of the spirit is the renewal of birth of our spirit, cleansed by the word of God.
PeteD
Lesson 6 Question 2 How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? When we read and really listen to God's / Jesus' words - that is. hold them close, the Holy Spirit will enable the word to convict us of sin and enable us to remove it - cut it off or purified us / clean us. God's Word is like a two edged sword ... In John 8: 31-32' Jesus says if we obey Jesus' teachings we are really his disciples and that we will know the truth that sets us free - free from the tyranny / slavery of sin. Jesus words, that is his teachings and commands are to love God and our neighbor. As we study the Scriptures, they point us to Jesus our Savior. If we trust Jesus, we will do what He commands - that is obey - we can only do this with his help.
pickledilly
Jesus spoke only what the Father gave Him to speak, and what the Father speaks is always and only truth. So, when we abide/dwell/remain in the Word of God, we abide in truth. And it is truth that sets us free from the grip of sin, its influence, and its consequences (8:31-32). As we expose ourselves to God’s Word, the Holy Spirit ministers understanding, conviction, correction, and guidance for applying truth to our lives. This Word of truth washes/scours our hearts to cleanse and purify our motives and desires. It transforms our thoughts and reasoning as we receive the mind of Christ (Romans 12:2). And it develops His righteous character in us, which leads us to respond to the Father with the love for Him and others that leads to act in obedience just as Jesus did (14:31). Knowing and obeying Truth can only lead us away from filth, darkness, and bondage toward purity, light, and liberty!
Stanley Tavaziva
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? The Word of God is the “knife” that God uses to prune and cleanse us it is sharper than any two-edged sword (Heb 4:12). It is only when affliction leads to this discipline of the Word that it becomes a blessing; the lack of this heart-cleansing through the Word is the reason why affliction is so often unsanctified [unproductive. Jesus said in John 15, "You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you." God’s Word does a spiritual cleansing in our hearts. Jesus himself is the truth that sets us free. He is the source of truth, the perfect standard of what is right. He frees us from the consequences of sin, from self-deception, and from deception by Satan. He shows us clearly the way to eternal life with God. Thus, Jesus does not give us freedom to do what we want, but freedom to follow God. As we seek to serve God, Jesus’ the perfect truth frees us to be all that God wants us to be.
royk
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin?We have warnings all over the place; for me a lot has come from Jesus words after he healed the blind man. "stop sinning or you never know what might happen." I have listened to some of the Eagles songs when I was really lost; even they were warning me not to go in the way of the world. We see what happens to people in the news on TV or the internet and may not have enough detail. We are in a fallen world and we are sinners. Heaven help us for not listening to Jesus' warnings, or those of other Bible stories. Sloth is a sin. I procrastinated on getting health issues looked at and now I'm lucky I can walk at all. Still the Lord is good, I'm still here, so I look to a good thing I can do today, and help my wife when she comes home, and pray until then. He expects me to obey and pray more, otherwise listening to the devil's whispering will cause anyone to lose their peace. Slowing down, listening to God love us in words and deeds, this help to not sin in the traditional way. but being a sinner, this is a life's work... All to HIS GLORY!! Joe_Applegarth
How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? To be one with God, is totally unattainable if we are oblivious to His presence in our lives. Every word that Jesus spoke was specifically intended to communicate God’s love for His people and to bring us to Him. We are cleansed in our obedience to Jesus’ words because it’s only through His words and His actions that we can live our lives in union with Him and make living in the Glory of God our life’s goal. According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? In 8:31-32, Jesus said that if we hold to His teaching we will know the truth and the truth will set us free. To obey Jesus’ commands is to transform ourselves to the standards of spiritual perfection that He set by His words and deeds. In order for us to share in Jesus' love, we must also share in His reverent obedience to God. “But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.” (1 John 2:5-6)
Old Jerry
We are pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus by studying his word and by the difficult times we have in life but still hang on to Jesus. Since we study the Bible and know what Jesus wants from us and we love him then we willingly obey him which keeps us from sinning.

Jonathan Edwards
God will take property, friends, family members and worldly pursuits that have gained too much of the believers heart. God will prune and cleanse the fruit-beari g branch. God will use the Holy Bible and the Holy Spirit to get rid of useless leaves and superfluous shoots that prevent a strong Vine from flourishing. God tries us; God chastened us for our good (Psalm 8; James 1:1-4). We must abide in the doctrine of Christ and endure until the end. We cannot just have a superficial knowledge of the faith; having a personal relationship with the Almighty is absolutely essential (Hosea 6:3). The truth in Christ is no mere theology; it is the highest truth. We are set free from slavery to sin and fear of death; the truth that is in Jesus; this truth works true miracles--freedom from sinfull passions and set free from Satan's delusions. Our intellects and and wills are set free by the power of God. We now have the glorious liberty of the children of God. We must understand the paramount importance that it is God alone that works in us both the willing and doing of His good pleasure. Christ the compassionate High Priest has come to set us free from our wills which are depraved, defiled and enslaved.
Irmela
Q2. (John 15:2b) How are we pruned or cleansed by exposure to and obedience to Jesus' words? According to John 8:31-32, how does obeying Jesus' teaching bring cleansing and freedom from sin? Reading and staying in the Word and obeying the Word will help us steer clear from wrong doctrine and following what is not of God. So the coming in contact with everyday issues that could bring doubts are then quickly washed away or pruned away before becoming spiritual mildew or rot that could damage the branch's growth. If you remain in the Word, . . . , you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. By staying in the Word, and obeying the Word, we get to draw closer to Jesus, Who is the Truth, Who cleanses us and sets us free from and keeps us away from sin.
