The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ should get our undivided attention because we will be rewarded and His glory will be manifested.

It inspired hope so that we would be determined to live our lives in holiness. It inspired self control and soberness because He is holy and we should be holy as He is holy God.
When we don't really expect Christ to come soon, it makes us to live sloppy life but the hope of His return quicken our spirit to live a holy life in anticipation of His quick returns.

Our undivided attention should be on the grace to be given to us when Jesus Christ returns. In our current life we exoerience exoerience struggles and suffering. Christ' second coming inspires hope because our salvation will be made complete, our faith will received its full reward, Crrist' glory will be revealed and we will recive our crown of glory. When  we live our lives without a view of this find hopw we become sloppy and revert to a worldly cebtered life.

Complacency has crept into many English churches. We have lost the edge that fired Christianity 2000yrs ago. If we don't recognuse the wakeup call, then we will be ill prepared for the dark days to come.

Revelation and Matt24 give us an idea of what to expect. It will not be easy. So that girds me to build faith for the future. Our young people in particular need guidance and power-building to face what comes. I feel events are building in the world. We need to be ready for false Christs and the World State....!

I Hope to witness some of this and prepare those around me.

We should prepare ourselves by living a life of holiness.  We should prepare our minds, be self-controlled and set our hope on the coming Christ.  In Christ's coming we can look forward to glory, final judgment, and vindication of Christians.  but a determination to live our lives in holiness. The hope of Christ's appearing to be a motivation to get our lives in order.

According to 1 Peter 1:13, we should have full attention undivided mind about christ's coming by prepare our mind for action. It inspired hope because our now maligned faith will receive its full rewards of its praise,  glory and honour. It inspired self-control and soberness because He is holy and we must be holy. Therefore, we must be free from fleshy life such as excess, passion, drunkenness and confusion. When we don't really expect Christ to come soon, our lives will base on worldly materials and set our mind on materialism.

In preparation for Jesus’ second coming, we need to give our undivided attention to getting our lives ready for His return. This consists of becoming holy as God is holy. To become more holy is by obedience, confession, and prayer. His coming gives those who are oppressed and suffering hope for the future. By becoming self-controlled and serious we can defend off Satan and his enemies. If we do not live righteous lives, we face a godless eternity in the fiery abyss.

Q1. (1:13)
What about Christ's coming should get our undivided attention?
Why should it inspire hope?
Why should it inspire self-control and soberness?
What happens in our lives when we don't really expect Christ to come soon?

Our undivided attention should be on being prepared for Christ’s Second Coming. Peter says we are to prepare our minds for action, in other words we are to take the initiative in preparing our minds for a life of holiness. Our minds must be holy if our behaviour is to be holy. For this to happen, we must be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Rom 12:2), and not conformed to this world. We are also told to think on the things which are true and noble, just and pure, lovely and admirable (Php 4:8).

This should inspire hope because of our faith in Him - remembering that we a have a living hope. Since our victory is assured, we should be living a life that is ready to meet our Saviour. We know His return is imminent and therefore we must be prepared. A part of the preparation for holy living is to live and enjoy the life of hope. This we do when we base our hope on the grace "that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ" (1Pet 1:13). What a promise! There is a day that Jesus Christ shall be revealed in His fullness and power, and He shall reign as King of kings and Lord of lords! We should live every day with that marvellous hope. I read somewhere these words of hope: “Life with Christ is an endless hope, without Him a hopeless end."

It should inspire self-control and soberness since our minds need to be under the control of the Holy Spirit and not under intoxication of any kind, for us to be prepared. We need to be truly self-controlled, and this can only occur when we are God-controlled.

If we don’t really expect Christ to come soon, complacency can set in. Instead, our life should be motivated to live for Him. It would be wrong to think that we have a lot of time to live a worldly life, and that we can change our lifestyle later. We must be disciplined, alert, and focused on the coming of our Lord. Be ready!

Christ is coming soon and we are to be ready for it. It will be the most glorious day in history. It should inspire hope because it will be exciting. It should inspire self-control and soberness because Christ isn’t going to be calling everybody into the sky. Our lives are useless and reckless when we don’t really expect Christ to come soon.

...as we go through trials and testing times, we can also gain great comfort in our lives, because we have the proper focus -- that this is very very temporary, and that we will soon (and possibly at any moment), see Christ. What a great hope in the midst of whatever life throws us.

The immediacy and imminency of Christ's return should inspire self-control and soberness, since we won't have time to "make things right." We need to live every moment as if He is coming back in the next breath.

What an admonition to get my priorities in life straight!

When we lose sight of the reality of Christ's soon return, we become complacent and slip into imitating the world instead of Christ.

I agree completely. Trials and testing allow us to gain the proper perspective. While life on this earth can be entertaining, fun, enjoyable and there will be accomplishments we can celebrate, we should not live for those things, nor should we store up these treasures here. We should look forward to His coming, live soberly in anticipation of being judged, seek to be a blessing to others, and pay more attention to the things that matter: caring for the poor, loving others, and sharing our faith.

When Christ returns, He will know everything about my earthly life. There is no tomorrow when it comes to living with self-control and soberness...I cannot wait until the last minute and "cram for the final".  I must prepare little by little everyday. When one doesn't really expect Christ to come soon, then living life becomes unintentional and wasteful.

- What about Christ's coming should get our undivided attention? Why should it inspire hope? Why should it inspire self-control and soberness?

Christ's second coming is a hope believers are eagerly waiting for. This is the moment when he will reveal his grace to us, as he promised. It should inspire us to live a life pleasing before the Lord.  Not only to be a part of the glorious appearing, but because we love him that we want to please him.

- What happens in our lives when we don't really expect Christ to come soon?

When we don't expect Christ to come soon we tend to plan and work pertaining to this world, as if we belong here.

Christ is at the door, coming for a an unblemished church. A holy church. His bride. He expects us to be sober, vigilant, laboring to expand his kingdom.  In anticipation, we are suppose to strive to live a holy life, serving, witnessing, strengthening our relationship with God. All this with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Jesus' return means glorified bodies, eternal life in God's presence. No more tears, no more infirmities, no more hunger. A new heaven and a new earth. All will be made new. This is what we should look forward to. This is what should encourage us to be vigilant, and not let our guards down. When we become complacent, we become lazy, and lose focus on our mission here on earth. Next thing we know, we are conforming to the world and in danger of losing all we have so diligently worked for.

Q1. (1:13)

What about Christ's coming should get our undivided attention?

For me I see a gracious God reminding us through Peter the apostle to live sinless and purpose filled lives. Our undivided attention must be to gravitate towards Godliness, in order to inherit SALVATION at Christ’s second coming.

Why should it inspire hope? Why should it inspire self-control and soberness?

The basis of our Christian faith is HOPE – a hope to obtain salvation of our souls through FAITH as mentioned earlier in the text (verse 9). In order to attain that salvation which is yet to be revealed we need the grace of God to inspire us to live moral lives by guarding our minds from ungodliness and all forms of materialistic drunkenness.

What happens in our lives when we don't really expect Christ to come soon?

We will experience and do the following :-

a)     drift towards indiscipline, disobedience and lose self control

B)    Gravitate towards ungodliness slump to prayerlessness

c)     And finally the loss of hope in salvation.

The hope of all Christians is to behold the Lord Jesus face-to-face.  As Christians, we believe in the word of God and know it to be true.  Therefore, expecting and anticipating  the return Jesus should be the joy of all saints.  We should be ready with our lamps full of oil.  Our faith in God's words and the evidence of His being in our lives, gives us the truth of Jesus return.

Christ's coming - it gives us great hope that helps inspire us to keep our focus on God every moment of every day, earnestly desiring to follow His Word and Way, leading us towards a holy life, honouring His great love for us.

Hope - Christ's coming inspires hope because of the many promises in His coming, with His salvation consummated and His glory in us manifested; we will receive a crown of glory, for He first loved us and chose us before we were born.

Self-control - might He help us gird up the loins of our minds that we may always act with self-control, knowing what is to come, what God ordained in us called to be His servants in Christ, to honour His love for us, to strive to give Him our attention every moment of every day and in His Grace and Will to help free us of mental rashness, growing always in self-control. O Lord help me, help us all, for we are all sinners here on this earth, so easily led astray in a moment of false thought. Help us I pray O Lord; You know my earnest and deepest desires. So be it, by Your inordinate Grace and Mercy.

Losing focus - when we forget, even in a fleeting moment, to have in mind God's almighty promises for us that He has given us in knowing of Christ's coming, we can lose sight of His love for each one of us and can quickly fall into sin, affecting the overflowing of His love from us to others that comes from obeying and honouring Him, always.

This second coming will make believers free of all worries/troubles that are part of this world. Hope gives way to belief & inspires us to become more like Jesus. In order to be more like Jesus, we must use self-control to free us from worldly desires & concentrate on the prize. We can feel hopeless if we lose sight of Jesus coming.

Jesus’ coming signifies eternal life and a place in our Father’s house.  We have to prepare for that glorious event now on earth. We have to get our heart, body, soul ready for this occasion.

With Jesus’ coming there will be no pain, sorrow, only everlasting joy to all believers.  If we want to inherit everlasting life we have to be faithful disciples of Jesus at all times.   We have to be strong in our faith that God will see us through all obstacles.  We have to be always prepared.  ‘For this reason, you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.’  Matthew 24:44
We become careless, lazy, not strong enough to resist many of the temptations thrown our way.   We tell ourselves that there is time.

1. When He comes again it will be the glorious fulfillment of prophecy in Scripture, signaling the beginning of His thousand year reign on earth. The Bride of Christ, His Church will be with Him, all of us riding on white horses! We will have been in   Heaven for 7 years during the tribulation on earth, the Rapture having occurred seven years prior. Anticipating this event brings great joy and the devotion and desire to walk closely with Him now desiring to be conformed into His image (Rom 8:28,29) while there is still time.

2. His promise that we will  rule and reign with Him during this millennial kingdom on earth, and the joy of His establishment of His Kingdom for 1000 years, gives us Biblical hope "for things believed but not yet seen."

3. When that day comes, it will be too late to surrender to Him...the time for "do overs" will be past. We don't want to have regrets!

4. If we don't really expect His Trumpet Call at any moment, we are more apt to live sloppy, self centered lives, with thoughts of "I'll surrender to Him/His will when I'm done with "doing my own thing". On the other hand we are not to live anxious, frantic lives of fear. "How do we eat  an elephant? One bite at a time"  and so we live for Him, getting to know Him, resting in His love and peace, obeying and serving Him, as He leads, one day at a time.

1...The hope of seeing Jesus face to face.

2   It inspires hope of eternal life with God.

3   It should inspire self-control and soberness or else we could fall back to the worlds ways.

4  We will conform to the world and not to the things of God.

How could Christ's coming not get our undivided attention?  He will come like a flash and all will know it!    According to the Nicene Creed:  "...he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. ... We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen."   Jesus announced the Kingdom of God at his first coming.  Gave us requirements for becoming citizen of the kingdom, namely to be reborn.    When Jesus comes the second time he will manifest the Kingdom physically  in this world.   Soon or not soon is not the issue we are  abide in him every moment and not look for some by and by.  Doubting Christ in the form of asking "really" is a problem of faith.  That is remedied by repentance.

Christ coming should keep us looking forward to his arrival at any time.

His coming inspires us our hope because he has promised to return and judge evil and we are to live with him.

If we do not anticipate Christ coming very soon we tend to fall back into the worldly pattern of living.
