What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? We are not part of this world system, we have been chosen and appointed to God for His service. Our values are to be based on Godly principles and come out of an attitude of gratitude. To be able to effectively serve God, we need to be sanctified and holy before Him, living according to the lusts of the flesh fall well short of His Holiness. Peter helps us to put the world into perspective: Things of this world will pass away in time, things of the Spirirt are eternal. 1 John 2 vs17 "The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever." Guitar Jim
Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? Peter tells us that we shouldn't conform to the standards of the world. We shouldn't give in to the desires of the flesh either. He reminds us that conformity to the world's take on goodness and the satisfaction of the **** of the flesh are in direct war against our very souls. How can this reminder help us? Sometimes we don't see anything wrong with running with the pack. We don't see anything really wrong with scratching the lustful itch. We need to be reminded that these things will destroy us spiritually.
wifee
4a)Peter warns us to keep away from the sinful desires of culture to conform, inspired by sinful human nature. Our values should be from God. b)We are in a spiritual battle with our soul, the centre of the inner human life. We as aliens and strangers in a sinful world, constantly tempted away from God’spath for us,so we need all the support we can have from reading the bible,Christian friends, the Holy Spirit in us,preaching to build up our faithhonour to God,trusting in God's strength in this battle to follow God's ways and receive salvation’s eternal hope in Christ Jesus. Craig
Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? The satanic world system is diametrically opposed to the Kingdom of God and wants to dominate and use all people. Because the world isn't based on a God given value system and dishonors God, Peter encourages believers to walk away and just say no. The satanic world system destroys the body and soul of all those who engage it.
Craig
Q4. (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? Sin kills our relationship with God and diminishes a believers Christianity and faith. Each Christian must walk away from the satanic world system as entered into by the pride of life, **** of the flesh, and the **** of the eyes. As Christians we must stop compromising with the world, with our old sin nature, and stop lying to ourselves over our compromising faith and truly be real followers of Christ with a passion to be holy as God is holy. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? 1 Peter 2:11 tells us not to conform to the world and it's fleshly lusts, we are to abstain from these things that war against our soul. This reminder to restrain ourselves from fleshly **** teaches us to conduct ourselves honorably among the gentiles, that when they speak evil against us as evil doers, they may see and observe our good works. Thus they will glorify God in the day of visitation.

What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. It helps by encouraging us to live Spirit filled lives with our eyes fixed on Jesus. That this alone will be a powerful witness to those that live around us, who don't know Christ. Joe_Applegarth
The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? Peter is reminding us that heaven is our ultimate home but in order to get there we have to give up the earthly desires that constantly wage war against our soul. Obviously we didn't choose to be born with a sinful nature but we can certainly choose to say no to sin here and now. You can choose to accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior and ask Him to forgive your sins or you can choose to those worldly things that are constantly waging war against your soul. God gave us a brain as well as a soul so we have a couple of choices to make. We can choose to live our lives as a stranger in the world or, we can be a stranger to God; we can say yes to sinful desires or we can say yes to Jesus Christ but we can’t have it both ways. David from NZ
Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? I don't believe "the world" tells us anything, false prophets are the ones who habitually lie to us. For most of the past 2000 years, "the church" was full of false prophets, who told everyone to ignore the bible and conform to their agenda, which had little to do with God's plans. They often defined sin to mean whatever they wanted it to mean. Now the false prophets are everywhere, politicians, advertising agencies, so-called "celebrities", used car salesmen and many more. They are never blatant enough to say that sin is acceptable, but they try to tell us that their policies, products or whatever are all we need to make our lives perfect. They also set bad personal examples, which certainly imply that sin is acceptable. Conforming now means "keeping up with the Joneses", having a new car, new phone and all the other junk we "just have to have" to be "successful". Peter tells us to abstain from sinful desires, which I believe means to reject the lies of the false prophets and think for oneself, with the help of the bible and by listening to God's replies to our prayers. We must follow our own path, with God's help, not follow the crowd of misguided fools who worship the new false prophets.
Celtic Wanderer
"Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul." (2:11) Read 1 Peter 2:11 carefully. The world tells us (1) to conform and (2) that sin won't hurt us. What does Peter tell us to combat these lies? How can this reminder help us? Peter urges us to act as strangers in this world! We are not to embrace the ways of this world! The world , or cosmos, as it is called in Greek, is a beguiling system that is dominated by satanic ideas, the word “cosmetics” comes from the same root. We are witnessing some of these ideas being simultaneously spawned across the globe. I have been amazed how same sex marriage (and oxymoron) has been orchestrated a lightening speed internationally. I think this is not a humanly organised thing - it is a seed that has been sown by wicked entities at a time when human hearts are wide open to receive this lie of massive proportions! Peter urges is to avoid, and to not participate in activities that are not pleasing to God. We must take care not to feed the sinful desires that are embedded within our human nature. Peter reminds us to be on guard, on the alert. Don’t let the world sneak up on you. Be careful - there is a war against our souls. We are engaged in a war that that rages within our very own beings (or our flesh). As we hide this message from Peter within our hearts (i.e. meditate on it) this will help us not to sin against God. Happy and in Love
Peter lets us know that we are in the world but not of the world. Therefore, worldly things must be put apart. Psalm 1 speaks of our friendship in and with the world: "the counsel of the wicked", "the way of sinners", "the seat of scoffers". Grace Ayaa
Peter tells us that we do not belong to the world by calling us sojourners, strangers and foreigners and that we are only passing through it so we need not to listen to what the world says because it contradicts what God says and wants us to do. This helps us to keep on the right track in this world and not loose our path since we are in a journey of salvation.
Eilen
Peter is telling us that we have to renounce Satan and his evil. The world in which we reside is full of sin. We have to remember that we are God’s own and all our values should come from Him and not the culture of where we reside. . We were made in His image and He expects us to be like Him. God does not condone sin. He gave His Son to suffer death on the cross for our redemption. He expects us to recognize that we have sinned and that we should seek forgiveness. We have to be strong and stay focused on God’s word.
