linda bass
The essential of Daniel's prayer was confession of sin and a plea for mercy. The various grounds of Daniel's appeal are 1] God's precedent-deliverance of Israel in the past, 2] God's glory, 3] God's righteousness, and 4] God's personal identification with Jerusalem. God answered Daniel's prayer by sending Gabriel to give him insight and understanding to explain a vision he had concerning future events. Lionwolf
Q4. (Daniel 9:15-19) What was Daniel's essential prayer? What are the various grounds of Daniel's appeal? How did God answer the prayer (see Daniel 9:20-23)? Daniel's prayer is for Israel to return to Jerusalem. Daniel confesses to God just how unworthy the Jews are but appeals to God's mercy, to worship in the Temple, and to God's identification with Jerusalem. God allowed those that wanted to return to Jerusalem/Judea to do so.
Clelie
Daniel interceded for Israel sins which have led them to exile. To plead for God’s mercy Daniel appealed to the character of God, His mercy, His name’s sake, His righteousness, for His glory. God answered Daniel by sending angel Gabriel to tell him that God has heard his prayers. Historical events proved this fact.
Krissi
Daniel, in this prayer, juxtaposed God’s character to that of Israel. At first, he compared the shame and transgressions of Israel to the constancy of God’s word and character. Disaster came on Israel because they did not live as God had instructed them to do. After comparing God’s mercy/anger to the sinfulness of Israel, Daniel begs God to be merciful to a nation that does not merit His mercy. He appeals to the need to keep God’s “reputation” from being tarnished by the sins of the people with whom He had covenanted As Daniel was praying, the angel Gabriel (one of the two archangels) spoke directly to Daniel as part of an answer to his prayer. He told him that a remnant would return, Jerusalem would be rebuilt and the temple would also be rebuilt. I don’t believe Daniel saw any of this, however, as he was very old and probably died before the restoration.
