pickledilly
The truths of Jesus originate from who He is as God, but the “truths” of any culture originate from the flawed imperfect nature of man. His truths are immutable, unchanging, consistent; man's are shifting, inconsistent, changing as kingdoms and philosophies come and go. His view of truth definitely contrasts with and differs from man's. Here are a few examples. The world view based on the truths of Jesus understands man's place as a creation of God with a unique plan and purpose for each life as it's designed to glorify God. The humanistic world view based on man's perceptions of truth believes man to be an evolved creature of no more worth or purpose than any other creature. The biblical world view innately knows the value of all stages of human life because every stage bears the image of God. The humanistic world view holds no such respect and is willing to get rid of “inconvenient” life such as the preborn, the physically “imperfect”, the infirmed and disabled, the elderly. The biblical world view recognizes man's accountability to the sovereign power of our Creator. The humanistic world view esteems man as his own god, accountable to no one. The biblical world view sees money as a tool for the kingdom of God. The humanistic world view sees money as a mark of success that is its own god. The biblical world view understands Kingdom principles such as “the least will be greatest” and “love overcomes hatred” and “abide in Christ” and “die to self”. The humanistic world view says “power=greatness” and “love is for the weak” and “I'll do it by myself” and “I'll do what I desire for myself”. So the truths of Jesus are very different from the supposed “truths” of man and culture. In order to be anchored in Truth, we first have to know what Jesus says is truth. We have to know His Word. And then we each have to receive it personally as truth for our own lives, not some vague general principle. I belong to God. I was created by Him with a unique purpose for my life to bring Him glory. I am accountable to God. I value and respect all human life. I worship God, not money. I am successful when I submit to His plan for me. Keeping focused on Jesus and His Word will help me hold on to His truth and wisdom more effectively. JanMary
Q4. (John 4:16; 1 Corin. 1:24) How does Jesus' truth contrast with your culture's dearly held "truths"? I Cor. 1:24: "Christ is the wisdom of God and the power of God." My culture's "truth's in the olden days sort of resembled some of Christ's wisdom, but not the power. Now, there is no resemblance whatsoever! In fact, there is an all out war on Jesus' truth, and those who stand up for His truth's. How does Jesus' wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches? Jesus' wisdom is about relying on Him and His Word and His power for living. My culture teaches that is foolishness and evil, and that man is to rely on himself and his own resources. "Grab what you can in life no matter who you have to step on to get It". My culture has become more and more a godless society, embracing the mores of socialism and hedonism. My culture says truth is relative...no God, no absolute truth. What would help you hold on to Jesus' truth and wisdom more effectively? To continue spending time daily in His Word, and in prayer, devoting time to continue developing an intimate relationship with Him. Glancing at the news, instead of feeding on it. Remembering that we live in a fallen world, and we are to be conformed into His image and to reflect Him to those who hold dear "truth" of their own making. Ignore the world's "wisdom" and pray for revival and for salvation for the unsaved.
charisbarak
Those in the upcoming generations are purporting that your truth is not my truth, etc. They are completely bypassing the genuine and only truth! Therefore, they are standing on shakier and shakier ground with not much hope. God's wisdom far exceeds ours. Ours is foolishness to His. In James, you can ask God for wisdom and He will give it to you. Staying in God's Word is a tried and true method of becoming more wise. RD35
Q4. (John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:24) How does Jesus’ truth contrast with your culture’s dearly held “truths”? How does Jesus’ wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? What would help you hold on to Jesus’ truth and wisdom more effectively? Jesus' truth and wisdom is exactly opposite of the worldly and present day culture and wisdom. When the so-called "reality" of this dark world system is confronted with the intense Light of truth and revelation, God's reality, there is dissonance. And it is God's reality that prevails and gives freedom. "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." (John 8:31-32) Only a complete surrendered life to Jesus and the determination by Gods grace to walk the narrow path at all times will help me hold on to the truth of Jesus. When we embrace distortions and outright lies about the meaning of life, we lose freedom. Only when we conform our lives to Jesus' true reality, can we be truly free. blezed
(John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:24) How does Jesus’ truth contrast with your culture’s dearly held “truths”? We seem to want to be more political correct than to be free. God's word says that Jesus is the Truth; his Word is Truth; he speaks to us the words of the Father. His truth, his reality, gives us freedom from slavery to the Lie. How does Jesus’ wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? Jesus wisdom is all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Worldly wisdom can be unspiritual, motivated by Satan thru jealously, selfishness, ambition etc. What would help you hold on to Jesus’ truth and wisdom more effectively? Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.

Annelle
Q4. (John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:24) How does Jesus' truth contrast with your culture's dearly held "truths"? It is totally opposite. Jesus' truth - Love the lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strenght. And love your neighbours as yourself. The culture's truth - Love self at all costs How does Jesus' wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? It differes totally. Jesus' wisdom stayed true and the same through all the ages. The worldly wisdom - very difficult to keep up with. Oh and then you have book wisdom or street wisdom???? What would help you hold on to Jesus' truth and wisdom more effectively? Learning more and more about Him and allowing Him to change us as He intended us to be. Old Jerry
Jesus’ truth seems to be almost the opposite of the dearly held “truths” of our culture. If we would follow Jesus’ wisdom then we wouldn’t have all this conflict in the world. We would all be in harmony and could love one another. The only way that I know to hold on to Jesus’ truth and wisdom is by Bible study and being with other Christians.
wilma m
In My culture there is no absolute truths, everybody decides for himself what is truth and lives according to that as long as he does not hurt anybody else. The Bible is jus stories taken from other cultures to try and explain things that people could not understand and today science is the new religion. I think only the Holy Spirit can convince a person of the truth. Jesus is the rtuth the way and the life, but its only the Spirit that can convince people of sin and righteousness and until one is born again he will believe what the world is telling him. For me the Bible is the absolute truth even if it goes against what people want to believe is right. The Bible does not need to be politically correct, it is correct in every way and we have to bend our knees before it and not before the world. Debra Grant
Q3. (Revelation 3:14) Why is Jesus called the "true and faithful witness"? What did he witness to? How was he faithful in his witness? As a disciple, to what degree are you a "true and faithful witness" to the Word that your Rabbi has taught and has done in your life? What would it look like if you improved as a witness? 1. Jesus is the Faithful One because he always keeps his word and can be trusted. 2. Jesus testifies at the cost of his life. Jesus' witness to the Father cost him his life. 3. In bearing the Father's words, Jesus is faithful, that is dependable and trustworthy to communicate the Father's words accurately. 4. I am not a shame of him. I will witness to others in a Godly manner. I am an examine to the world. 5. More people would get saved.
lighthouse2014
Jesus truth is contrasted in today's cultural truths by the fact today society tells us to be politically correct, we are to use the so called truth's of the commercialized world. Jesus spoke to the woman at the well and that the man she was living with was not her husband. In today's culture it would be considered a partner instead of a live in. The answer above shows that man believes his wisdom is best for us in our culture of today. Paul states that the wisdom of God is foolishness to those who are perishing. Man today believes that God's wisdom is out dated and that our's now is better, being politically correct, not accuse anyone of the sins they are living in. It helps us to be more effective and to hold on to the teachings of Christ truth and wisdom which are true and faithful. We are to recognize that today's cultural wisdom believe that we more wise and correct and who needs God. Holding to Jesus truth's and wisdom will prove to be wisdom from God and keep us from the punishment intended for those that oppose the Lord. How does Jesus' wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? What would help you hold on to Jesus' truth and wisdom more effectively? We live in a world in which it is very often, hard to nail down the truth. Our materialistic culture tries to convince us that money and possessions are the essence of truth and the way to a good life. We even believe that learning and knowledge is the way to truth. In this world there is no such thing as absolute truth. When it comes to wisdom, we will find that only Jesus Christ has divine wisdom. Worldly wisdom is a poor substitute for the wisdom of that God promises to those that believe in Him as Saviour and Lord. As believers, our wisdom comes to us through the Holy Spirit, through the written Word. We only have to ask! “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). JeannieG
Q4. (John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:24) How does Jesus' truth contrast with your culture's dearly held "truths"? My Answer: I live in the United States, a land that was founded on freedom OF religion. Over time, the culture in my country has become freedom FROM religion, one of tolerance of all faiths, except Christianity. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life which is in contrast to the lie of freedom FROM religion that is so prevalent in my culture today. The culture now is one of anything goes except for the Truth. Following Jesus is seen as intolerant, weak and old-fashioned by those who believe Satan's lies. How does Jesus' wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? My Answer: Jesus is the Word made flesh. God's Word is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His truths never change or go out of style. God is all knowing. He did not have a different set of values in ancient times from the values that He has today. Worldly wisdom teaches that we have to evolve our thinking to adapt to our changing culture. What would help you hold on to Jesus' truth and wisdom more effectively? My Answer: What helps me is my 24/7 relationship with Him. When I fall, He always picks me up and dusts me off and sets me back on the path He walks with me. I communicate with Him as effortlessly as I breathe. But, just as in any relationship, I sometimes run ahead of Him and get myself in trouble. He never leaves me or forsakes me and is always willing to spend time with me. He loves me enough to allow me to think I am running off without Him, although He is always there. He allows me the freedom to fall and the freedom to ask for His help. He loves me just as I am and shows me how to grow in relationship with Him. Taz
Jesus said, "I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life" John 14:6 And it is that "truth" that the culture in which I live, challenges every day, in every way. The world believes that there are many truths, even in science that GOD Himself "invented" down to the smallest particle, even the very DNA of all living things, the single truth is that Jesus Christ is THE TRUTH, the only truth. And one day the entire world will see. In John 17, Jesus also said, "I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one." It would be easy to let it go at that, but He went on to say, "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me." Those others are us!! Down through the centuries His Word has been established as Truth in the hearts and minds of those who believe. And always, regardless of "culture" in which those believers lived, they had to have faith that just as He said, "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, Who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand." John 10:28-29 I have heard, as many likely have as well, that there are many paths to heaven, to godliness and that by being "good" people can achieve it. But that is not what He said. And long ago I decided that I would believe the bible, cover to cover, word for word, no if, ands or buts..... I believe that all Scripture was given by GOD's inspiration, that is, it was breathed out to those He entrusted to write it down. 2 Timothy 3:16 And I believe that His Word is more powerful than can be understood by the limits of the human mind. That it is alive and powerful enough to separate the soul from the spirit. I believe what His Word says, that His Word can discern the thoughts and intentions of my heart, that there is nothing hidden from Him. Hebrews 4:12 Our faith comes by hearing the Word of GOD (Romans 10:17) and it should be our determination to increase our faith by and through His Word each day. Not at the end of the day as our weak flesh would have us do, but early, while we are fresh, before the cares of the day invest heavily into our minds. Two of my favorite George Mac Donald quotes: "To keep a lamp burning we have to keep putting oil in it." "It is our best work that God wants, not the dregs of our exhaustion. I think He must prefer quality to quantity."

Clarence
While our culture does hold to some truth, a very little of the truth is from God, the rest is a lie. Jeremiah describes the heart of man as deceitful and desperately wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). The bible also says that Jesus truth is the ultimate truth and his wisdom is from God (John 14:6, 1 Corinthians 1:24). In addition there is nothing that anyone has, except what is given him from God (John 3:27). To hold on to Jesus' truth, takes wisdom from God (James 1:5) and study of his word (2 Corinthians 2:15). In addition the bible exhorts believers to draw near to God (James:8),
Stanley Tavaziva
Q 4. (John 4:16; 1 Corinthians 1:24) How does Jesus' truth contrast with your culture's dearly held "truths"? How does Jesus' wisdom differ from the worldly wisdom that your culture teaches you? What would help you hold on to Jesus' truth and wisdom more effectively?Often we become uncomfortable when the truth is talked about, the conversation changes and we try to talk about something else. As we witness, we should gently guide the conversation back to Christ. His presence exposes sin and makes people nevres but only Christ can forgive sins and give new life. Walking in the Word will make you desire to seek wisdom from our Lord God. Use wisdom to glorify God and understand Him better. You desire to help others and give insight in to the Word of God through teaching. What is said about earthly wisdom? 1 Corinthians 1:19 “For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the experts.” 1 Corinthians 1:20 “Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?” What is said of godly wisdom? 1 Corinthians 1:25 “because God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.” 1 Corinthians 3:18 “No one should deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks he is wise in this age, he must become foolish so that he can become wise.” Obtaining godly wisdom: James 1:5 “Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to him.”

Our culture wants to be able to do whatever they want without guilt or consequence. But the truth that Jesus brings is true freedom, He created us and knows what is truth and how we should live. The world rejects the truth of God's Word because it is a two edged sword cutting to the quick, exposing the darkness in us.
