ducminh
It is fascinating to read the account of Joshua’s conquest of the Promised Land, and to know how God helped the Israelites when they obeyed and kept His commandments and His laws. God is not like the earthly parents who spoil their children by bringing all the good food to them and serving them at the table. He only helps the Israelites if they obey Him and keep His commandments and His laws. There was a lot of killings in Joshua 10, the Amorites were slaughtered and exterminated as per God’s command. We can learn that the Israelite army did not boast of their strength and courage, neither did Joshua boast of his smartness in leading Israel. They fought the battles but they had simply fulfilled God’s will, and the success of the conquest was for God’s glory. God had shown His power through the conquest of Joshua and the people in the entire land were fearful because they knew the Most High was with the Israelites. The following verses show the works of God in the conquest of the Promised Land: Jos 10:8 And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee. Jos 10:9 Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night. Jos 10:10 And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah. Jos 10:11 And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword. Jos 10:12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon. Jos 10:13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day. Jos 10:14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel. Further in Joshua 10 we learn that Joshua had conquered in a short period of time many more cities than those of the five kings: Adonizedek king of Jerusalem, Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon. Joshua 10:28-41 gives us the list of the conquered cities and their kings: Makkedah, Libnah, Lachish, Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish, Eglon, Hebron, Debir, all the country of the hills, and of the south, from Kadeshbarnea even unto Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even unto Gibeon. The above victories of Joshua’s conquest can demonstrate that God had fulfilled His promise: "no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life" (Joshua 1:5). The lesson that we can learn from Joshua 10 is: we can expect God to help us in our conquest of this life if we also repent, submit ourselves to God, keep His commandments and His laws as Joshua did. van
After marching fast over 21 miles up and down high elevated ground in the pitch dark, God was with them, because early the next morning they surprised and defeated the opposing armies. God caused large hail stones which killed the majority of the opposing armies men. Finally, God caused the sun to stand still for a full day, while the Israelites defeat their enemies. God actually did the fighting through the Israelites. God refilled His promise to Joshua by defeating all the enemies. God expect us to be prepared to fight in batteries with the enemy through our Savior Jesus Christ.
charisbarak
Night march, hailstones & sun stood still for more daylight fighting. They were prepared to fight. Gladys E.
In the battle of the five kings God cause hailstones to fall on the armies of these kings and killed a lot of them and He also make the sun to stood still, I.e. the sun did not go down when it should have gone. The Israelites fighting is done by marching to the appointed place of battle and by obeying God's command. God fulfill His promise to Joshua by being with him and magnifying him in the eyes of the people. God expect us to be prepared to fight our enemy the devil. We do this by obeying God's command and rebuking the devil in Jesus' name.
JanMary
Q 1 lesson 6. (Joshua 10:1-28 In the battle of the five kings what fighting did God do? He gave Joshua His Word that He had given the enemy into Joshua's hand, which gave him courage to lead the army. God strengthened the army to fast march uphill all night long in order to surprise the enemy, and gave them the will and the courage and strength to fight. As they were attacking, God caused the enemy to panic, and as they were being routed, God pelted them with huge hailstones large enough to Kill more than were killed by the soldiers. Then He miraculously made the sun stand still for a day so that the enemy could be completely defeated. What fighting did the Israelites do? They followed Joshua and marched into battle, then wielded the sword against the enemy.(They were obedient) How did God fulfill His promise to Joshua "that no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life? (Joshua 1:5) God reiterated to Joshua what He said in V.5:"There shall not a man of them stand before you". (Joshua 1:8) (Before the battle. I imagine Joshua needed that encouragement after their stunning defeat at Ai.) The enemy was totally destroyed. Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? Paul tells us in I Tim 6:12 to fight the good fight of faith (that battle is always against the Devil) In Ephesians 6:10 "Be strong in the Lord and empowered through your union with Him, draw your strength from Him (that strength which His boundless might provides) Put on God's whole armor which He supplies so that we may be able to successfully stand up against all the strategies and deceits of the devil. ( Amplified) The devil is a defeated foe....declawed, defanged, but roars with a LOUD megaphone to intimidate and frighten us. We have been given authority over him and his cohorts through the mighty Name of Jesus, who crushed his head when He died and rose again. The devil has no power but that which we allow him to wield. Praise is another weapon we've been given, as is prayer and thankfulness. We show up and God does the fighting. I read in a devotion years ago, and I love it. A little girl was asked if she was afraid of the devil and she answered "When he knocks at the door I send Jesus to answer it." The battle belongs to the lord, but we rely on Him for the promised victory. At the cross, Jesus took away the authority which Adam forfeited to the devil when he disobeyed God and "fell", and Jesus gave it to believers to use in His mighty Name. It's ours to wield, (like a traffic cop who holds his hand up to stop traffic or change the direction of flow. He has delegated authority from the state or government to do so, though he has no physical ability to stop cars or trucks, they stop because of the badge of authority he/she wears. Our authority is the Name of Jesus and His blood, as we are in the positional place, seated at the right hand of the Father in Heavenly places (Eph 2:6) with rule over the kingdom of darkness. We are told in Eph 6 to Hold our ground, wielding the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and to stand firmly in our place. (v.13) To share the throne is to share the authority. How did God fulfill his promise to Joshua that “no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life” (Joshua 1:5)? Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? Joshua did things the right way this time, he consulted the Lord. When we obey God and trust him to fight for us, we sometimes see him do miraculous acts of deliverance. The Lord caused hail stones that killed many of the enemy, and caused the sun to stand still for a full day. Joshua was prepared to fight. The Israelites conducted a night-march from Gilgal to Gibeon, surprise the Amorite kings, and rout them. God was with them in helping to defeat the kings. Eilen
The Lord created a stone storm to defeat the enemy Joshua marched from Gilgal with the Israelite army and made a surprise attack on the five kings. Since this was God’s plan, the Israelites were able to inflict great slaughter on them. The Lord was there with Joshua guiding him as to what must be done to defeat the enemy. Yes. He expects us to since that is the only way we can enter into His Kingdom. He expects us to remain focused on Him, repelling the works of evil. We have to always have our spiritual armor on. Then God sent a hailstorm and greatly diminished their army. Then God stopped the sun giving the Israelites victory over their enemies. The Israelites fought, but God gave them the advantage to victory. We have been given the armor of God to stand against the devil in the same way. Ganti Vivek
In the battle of the Five Kings God prepared the israelites to fight to protect the Gibeon, they marched in the pitch darkness, 35 km from Gilgal to Gibeon whole night and in the early next morning fought with enemies without any energy loss. Here God has scattered the enemy and killed them by large hail storm in more numbers then Israelites killing with their sword. During the war to win over the entire enemy the day was not sufficient,n when Joshua commands publicly in the God's presence to sun, " O Sun stand still " so that he can win the war. This is how God fulfilled His promise to joshua that He will not face any defeat in all his life. In the same way God is empowering us to fight against Devil with the armour He provides Eph 6:11-13. Then we can win battles in life which are never won by others, that's how our testimony will be.

How did God fulfill his promise to Joshua that "no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life" (Joshua 1:5)? Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? * 1. Fighting done by the Israelites was: i) their physical action of marching out overnight armed with weapons and ii) confronting five nations joint forces. 2. God fought by: i) empowering/ strengthening the army, ii) caused hailstorm that battered the enemy's army and iii) extended the day period to ensure Israel's victory over the enemy. * The victory achieved by the Israelites was God confirmation of His promise that as long Joshua walked with Him he would always defeat the enemy * Yes God expects us to be prepared to fight in the battle with the enemy with Him by putting on the full amour of God. This means trusting in God and using the protective warfare components such salvation as a helmet, faith as a shield , the Word as a sword, truth as the belt that holds other components, righteousness as a breast plate etc

In the battle of the Five Kings, God did his in the fighting the kings by keeping the soldiers of Israel fit for fighting even after ab all night march of 21 miles over rough terrain. God also did his part by raining down large hail stones that killed more of the enemy than the soldiers of Israel did. Also the Lord stopped the sun from moving so the Israel army had more time to finish up the defeat of the armies of the Five Kings. God had fulfilled his promise to Joshua by the fact no one had defeated the armies of Israel as long as Joshua lived as long as they obeyed the Lord and done things his way. god told Joshua that everywhere he placed his foot that it would be theirs. As believing Christians God expects us to fight our enemy the Devil by dawning our spiritual armor. To gird our waist with truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword which is the word of God. How did God fulfill His promise to Joshua that "no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life" (Joshua 1:5)? Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? The Lord had told Joshua not to fear the Five Kings – this guaranteed triumph despite the size of the opposition. Assured of this victory by the Lord, Joshua could with full confidence engage the enemy at Gibeon. We read of two miracles that happened in destroying the Canaanites. The tremendous hailstorm which only killed the enemy. And then, at the request of Joshua, the sun and moon standing still; giving the Israelites more daylight to destroy the foe before they could escape. God fulfilled His promise of never leaving or forsaking Joshua by giving him victory after victory. This He did as long as Joshua was obedient. God was always present offering advice and help. Yes, we must be prepared to fight the evil ones – to fight our own battles. This is done only after we have come humbly before Him in prayer seeking His guidance. Our weapons are faith in our Heavenly Father, prayer, obedience to the Word and Holy Spirit. We can never be sure of being victorious on our own – we need the support and wisdom of the Lord. We lean not on our own understanding, but we put our trust in the Lord, at the same time acknowledging Him in all that we do.
DawnMc13
In the battle of the five kings God assured Joshua that He was with Him and not to fear. First, the Lord threw the enemy into a panic so they were easily defeated. Next the Lord destroyed many with a terrible hailstorm - the hail killed more men than who were killed by the sword. When Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still until Israel had defeated their enemies - the fact that the Lord listened proved that the Lord had fought for Israel. God fights for us also by providing us with His armor to fight our enemies - the devil and his army. The body armor of God's righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, the shield of faith, the shoes of peace, the sword of the spirit. Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? Joshua didn’t have to spend the time and resources required to wage separate campaigns against each fortified city represented in the coalition. Joshua confidently confronted this coalition of armies and defeated them in a single battle because he trusted God to give Israel the victory. This was Gods promise and fullfilment. God appointed Joshua). (2) He was one of only two living eyewitnesses to the Egyptian plagues and the Exodus from Egypt. (3) He was Moses’ personal aide for 40 years. (4) Of the 12 scouts, only he and Caleb showed complete confidence that God would help them conquer the land. God fights for us also and He provides us with His armor to fight our enemies, we only have to believe.
Irmela
Q1. (Joshua 10:1-28) In the Battle of the Five Kings, what fighting did God do? What fighting did the Israelites do? How did God fulfill his promise to Joshua that "no one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life" (Joshua 1:5)? Does God expect us to be prepared to fight in the battle with our enemy the devil? How? This time Joshua sought the Lord as to what should be done, when the Gibeonites , who were now to be protected by Israel because of the treaty. appealed to them for help. The Israelites were to march from Gilgal to Gibeon during the night and surprise the Amorite kings. This march was not an easy march, but was conducted under God's orders via Joshua. This surprise attack caused a disorganized retreat by the armies of the 5 kings. On top of this surprise, God ensured that a vicious and unusual hailstorm took place, which killed a large number of the enemy as they fled to Azekah and Makkedah. More were killed by the hailstones than the Israelite army. Then we find the time elapsing and Joshua speaking to the Lord on the day the Amorites were given over to them. Then Joshua in the sight of everyone speaks to the sun to stand still and the moon not to continue its assent, while the Israelites defeated their enemies. We continue reading of battle after battle that was fought and the Israelites being successful and taking city after city in these battles. That was how God kept His promise to Joshua. Joshua had to be obedient and consult and then do how God led. He does not expect us to enter the battle alone. The secret of power in the Christian life is to draw close to Christ daily in our devotional life as a way of sensitizing our spiritual ears to hear his voice. Then we obey and follow through with what he shows us.
