charisbarak
Words we speak, thoughtless of others, lying, bad attitudes, not giving, some sin that we think we can't give up. We're still the defiled person and until we confess & repent of these errors, God may or may not bless our work in the church. We are then double-minded and not honest. Confess & repent--1 John 1:9. What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? 1. Rebellion, intentional stubborn unrepentant sin. Indulging in behavior which our culture embraces which dishonors our Lord. 2. The danger is denial which blinds us to the truth that His blood alone makes us holy! But discipline by our loving Father, will bring us out of denial that "good works somehow negate sin" and through His kindness will lead us to repentance. (He poured out all of His wrath for sin on Jesus on the cross, so that His children need not fear His anger. If discipline is needed He will do that in love, not anger) (Rom 2:4) Are you unmindful that God's kindness is intended to lead you to repent, to change your mind and inner man to accept God's will?" I'm reminded of John 2:21 in that church "work" or any work done in wrong motivation is wood, hay and stubble to be burned up as chaff when our works are judged, rather than what we do in the light which is "wrought with God "divinely prompted, done with God's help and in dependence upon Him." 3. Acknowledge the sin, confess it to the Lord and for accountability, to another believer. (James 5:16) Confess your sins one to another and pray for one another. (This brings us all together at the foot of the cross...equal in our need for Him and for forgiveness as we extend grace to one another.) Bambi Girouard
Q4. (Haggai 2: 10-14) What kinds of things defile a disciple today? The same things that defiled a person in Jesus’ time: “It is what comes out of a man that makes him unclean. For it is from within, from men’s hearts, that evil intentions emerge, fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within and make a man unclean.” (Mark 7:22-23) What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How a person thinks may not be reflected in what he does. Some people believe that they are self-important, good and spiritual just through a show of being good, or looking holy but their motives are far from honoring God. They seek earthly honors and material benefits – you and I can make them feel good but to live in such a way is to deceive themselves. How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? Facing their sin a person of faith humbles themselves before the Lord in true contrition and prayer, repents, confesses his sin and, where possible, makes amends. A broken and contrite heart, God will not despise (Psalm 34:18).
Richard Hawkins
See Mark 7:20-23 We then fall back on the concept that we can save ourselves by work. It's not wheat we do but what Jesus Christ has done for us that matters. We would not be living lives of faith. Confessing sin daily. Old Jerry
I think that the things that defile us today is the same as in the Old Testament days. We are defiled by disobeying the Ten Commandments. The danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association is that we don’t repent from our sins. We think we have repented by doing holy things. We sould go to God and ask for forgiveness for our spiritual defilement and sin.

What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? There are many things that can defile a disciple today. Being disobedient to God's word, wrong attitude, maintaining close relationship with sinful people to name a few. Doing church work will not make us holy. People looking from the outside by believe that we are holy but God knows better. We must repent from our sins, which will cleanse us. Uncle Dave
Q4. (Haggai 2:10-14) What kinds of things defile a disciple today? What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? A current day disciple can become defiled by backtracking into territory from which God has removed him. When God cleanses a person, they should go to all extremes to stay that way. I say extremes because when you are cleansed, Jesus said that the same spirit will return with 7 more and upon finding the house clean, will attempt to move in(given the opportunity). Rather than a return to that from which we were removed, we should concentrate on any other areas of our life that may need cleaned up(seems like there is no end to those areas). The danger of thinking that church work alone makes us holy is that it doesn’t. Being involved in church work should be encouraged, but even more important is having a pure heart. An unrepentant sinner doing church work is headed down the same path of destruction as an unrepentant sinner who isn’t doing church work. Like Jesus said, they would be receiving their reward then instead of later, when it really counts. Repentance is the only way of dealing with defilement and sin. Trusting in the fact that Jesus will cleanse & forgive you upon true repentance will remove the stains from you “spiritual rap sheet.”
hanks
Q4. (Haggai 2:10-14) What kinds of things defile a disciple today? What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? We must be careful not to think that doing church work or doing any good deeds for the Lord will make us holy. Holy acts have no power to make us holy – only a Holy God can do this. Whereas contact with holiness does not make us holy, contact with evil and defilement does – it is contagious. Sin is easily transmitted by association in the same way as contagious diseases. The only way we can deal with spiritual defilement and sin is by turning away from sin to Christ. The turning from sin is called repentance and the turning to Christ is called faith. After repenting we put our trust in Jesus Christ for forgiveness of sins and for eternal life with God.
bertha
Q4. (Haggai 2:10-14) What kinds of things defile a disciple today? What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin Though times have changed, God 's word continues to stand. What did not please God before, continues to displease Him, today. Rebelliousness, disobedience, ungodliness, self exaltation, inconsiderate of others, self gain, getting meshed with the world and it's worldly passions, etc. God sees our hearts and the intentions within. He cannot be mocked. We can continue to think that our works will count on our behalf and get us into heaven, but in the end, it's our relationship with JesusChrist through faith in the power of the blood that cleanses us of all sin, that will get us in. As believers, we are commanded to be holy, separate ourselves from the world, to flee all desires of immorality, resist the devil , by submitting to God. If one sins, we must immediately confess our sin, repent(turn from our sin) and ask God for forgiveness.

Smiley
Our thoughts, our words, deeds and attitudes towards others, that hurt them or lead them away from God causes defilement and sin in us. We should repent and ask for forgiveness before we even carry out our chores in church or anywhere else.

Ganti Vivek
All the unholy acts of pleasure, hate, revenge and unforgiving nature are all acts which put us back into the sinful nature from where we came, so should be careful not to fall into the the trap of Satan, and in the present world of Hippocratic Christians are thinking doing service in the holy work of the lord will make them holy, but lord says to us to deal with our spiritual defilement and sin by repenting and poring our hearts to Him and asking for our forgiveness and living faithfully to Him. Commissioned
On 8/15/2017 at 2:25 PM, Pastor Ralph said: Q4. (Haggai 2:10-14) What kinds of things defile a disciple today? What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? Today, disciples are defiled by wanting to align themselves to the world and the things of the world. The danger of acting as if doing church work, that it somehow makes us holy by association; is blinding the child of God from the truth. They find themselves in a rut of doing the same thing over and over and feeling good about it, but missing the mark, they fail to seek God and allow the Spirit of God to rule in their heart leading them to the truth and into doing the Will of God. A Believer can deal with spiritual defilement and sin by repenting and seeking the guidance of the Spirit of God to move away from the influences of spiritual defilement and sin. BKeane
assuming the disciple has been called in the first place (not using Thee (GOD) to talk about me"); "wins" are the most precarious moments. At what shold be a time for great Praise and Gratitude to God for whatever occurred, we, or me, very easily inclined to take the credit and from there pride acts as yeast for additional "defilement".. Taking responsibility for this, which in itself means that God sent Grace for this awareness that Me not Thee (GOD) was the grower, and then sorrowing and asking forgiveness; depending on the magnitude and context of the "defilement" as a Catholic I would seek forgiveness in Sacrament of Confession

What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? Getting too close to the things of this world defile a disciple today. For example, materialism, consumerism, celebrity worship, ****, sex outside marriage and rote Christianity. Church work does not make one spirituality clean. Thinking that it does only deepens self-deception. A believer deals with spiritual defilement and sin by going to God and asking for forgiveness and cleaning the issues up with the Trinity. Damary Alembi
What kinds of things defile a disciple today? Defiled things make disciples defiled. Taking what belongs to God. Being unclean in the eyes of God. Staying away from God. Not repenting. We can be defiled by participating in unclean practices of the world. Contact with holy things such as church work does not make us holy. We are cleansed only through repentance, confession, and faith that God forgives us (Haggai 2:10-14) What is the danger of acting as if doing church work somehow makes us holy by association? The danger is that unless we return to God by repenting of all our sins, we cannot be holy. The danger is that we think we are holy by virtue of doing church work. How does a believer deal with spiritual defilement and sin? A believer deals with a spiritual defilement by repenting of their sins and returning to the Lord. With repentance comes God’s blessings Haggai 2:15-19. Repentance and obedience change things. As we follow Jesus we can expect to see his blessings, both spiritually and materially. We can execute God’s orders with God’s own authority, if we can act and speak with God’s own authority, with Jesus own words of love and power, as we listen to him. Katy
Any thought word or deed which is sinful defiles us before God. Disobedience can be an area of defilement, or being sucked into the ways of the world, this may be subtle and is an area we need to be very careful off. We can do this by being mindful of how we spend our time, tv, types of books we read. Watching who we spend time with do they share the same values and interests that we have.? I also recognize that we may spend time with different people when we are trying to draw them to the Lord but we must never compromise our conduct in any way. Being involved in Church work won’t make us holy. To be holy we must set ourselves apart from the world and yet live in it. We must be deeply committed Christians. Spend time in prayer, meditation and bible study. Have the fruit of the spirit in our lives and be humble. If I am spiritually defiled I must confess my sin and repent. Then spend time seeking the Lord , prayer and heartfelt sorrow.
