pickledilly
In His role and purpose as Son of Man, Jesus voluntarily set aside the attributes and privileges of His divinity when He came to humanity in human flesh. In the Greek, His statement that “the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing” (ESV) indicates that while here in that capacity, He relinquished the power to do anything of Himself. He was completely dependent on the empowerment of the Spirit, who would only lead Him to do what the Father showed Him to do. Jesus did not depend on His reasoning or purposes or abilities as a man, but on the will and direction of the Father and on the empowerment and guidance of the Spirit. Philippians 2:6-7 reveals that Jesus willingly deprived Himself of His equality in the Godhead and His glory in heaven in order to fully take on the likeness of man [yet without our innate nature to sin]. I think there were 2 reasons for this. First, He had to fully identify with man in order to qualify as the One who could rightfully stand in our place of judgment before God to take the punishment we deserve and defeat the just consequences of our sin. Jesus could not legitimately do this with a dual nature in play. And secondly, He became our example of living a human life that denies self-desire, will, and rights in order to surrender completely to the Father’s will and the Spirit’s power. He humbly lived out the solution for our critical lack of power to defeat sin and live a life of holiness - reliance on the Spirit’s unlimited capacities of might, strength, and ability. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus’ statement, “the Son can do nothing by himself,” indicate about his relationship with the Father? Answer: It means that although the Lord Jesus is equal with God the Father, He did not take the authority & privilege of being the Son of God, while in the role and purpose as Son of Man. Yet, He took out His nature as God which in reality can be used for His advantage. It is also to show that what He is doing is only the will of the Father and He is also dependent upon His Father's will. Why did Jesus have to “empty himself” from his heavenly glory when he became a man? Answer: So that people and Satan will not say that He was able to do it because He has the power as the Son of God and He used it to His own advantage. Jesus also empties himself from his heavenly glory when He became a man to become a role model for mankind that He as a human can overcome evil in His life...we too can do the same being a human. Travis81
What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? He was the epitome of love, walking in faith, of faithfulness in demonstration, of obedience on action; of humility, of respect, of partnership, etc.… (His relationship was intimately SOLID!) Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? John 5:17-30, (Philippians 2:6-7); It is my belief He did so because most were not worshiping God in spirit and in truth, although they no longer overtly worshiped idols openly and in secret as they did prior to the 70 years of bondage, the people were not in intimate relationship with The Father. Their ears were not as sensitive as God desired to the true Prophets nor the His Word. Therefore, He through Christ would demonstrate love in action at a level with the hope that mankind would see the LOVE reach.
Janine
The relationship is dependent upon each other. Jesus depends on God, the Father’s power to enable him to accomplish all that the Father is asking him to do. God depends on Jesus to take on the role of a man so that he can reach us through that connection of humanness. Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? Jesus emptying himself in becoming a man was an act of love for God, the Father. It was emptying himself because he was to show us that man needs the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to be able to live fully into how God designed us to be, in complete union and fellowship with him; depending and relying upon Him. He did it to be the example of reliance upon the Holy Spirit within us.

Because of the unity with God, Jesus lived and did as God wanted him to. Jesus was dependent upon the Father. Why did Jesus have to “empty himself” from his heavenly glory when he became a man? Jesus gave up his divine privileges and took the form of a servant and became like man in submission to the Father's will.

Francesca
Jesus'statement "the Son can do nothing by himself" refers to the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is acknowledging that whatever he does in the way of miracles is accomplidhed by God the Father. Jesus is saying that he acts with the support of God the Father, by whom all is possible. Jesus cannot act alone; he acts with the blessings of his Father. Jesus acted in order that we may see and believe in God's work among men. We can learn from his subjection to be more humble and obedient, following in the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus provides the perfect example of obedience to God he shows us how to be nearer to God every day. He emptied himself of everything to become the humble servant as we too should become closer to God by lowering ourselves and approaching God in humility. Rev. Michael
Jesus is fully God and fully man. He came to seek and save those that are lost. He became a human to live among us and become an example for us how to live. Jesus demonstrated His perfect life as He had the Holy Spirit living in and through Him. Our Savior can empathize with us as He took on human flesh.
Uncle Dave
Jesus’ statement was proof that although He came down from Heaven, He came down to identify wholly with man. Jesus demonstrated that all things can be done via the power of God. I believe He showed how the government of Heaven operates. Just like the Israelites were broken up into tribes with leaders that were actually “co-leaders” with the other tribes or when Jethro, Moses’ father-n-law showed up in the desert to inform him that he should not be in charge of every little detail, Jesus demonstrated how everyone working together created a formidable force. Concerning Jesus “emptying Himself”, obedience. John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. Matthew 26:53 talks of how Jesus could have called upon more than 12 legions of angels. In John 12:27, Jesus said “…but for this cause came I unto this hour”. Had Jesus called upon the legions of angels to rescue Him, He would have been operating in the divinity He knew before coming to Earth, disrupting to path to salvation God had laid out for us. This would also have been the cancellation of our ability to communicate directly with God the way we do. John 3:16, the one verse almost everyone knows tells us that God sent his Son. It was up to Jesus to obey. If Jesus had not been depleted of the glory known before coming to Earth He would not have been able to demonstrate dependence on the Father and the Spirit. He would not have operated with the dependence, but with His divinity. Operating like this, Jesus would not have been able to teach us dependence on the Father, something man had grossly drifted away from. Eilen
Jesus, as human, was completely and totally dependent to the will of his Father. He was on earth to do what His Father wanted Him to do : to bring salvation to mankind, heal the sick. Jesus had to empty himself of His Godly power so that becoming humble and obedient, he could be guided by the Holy Spirit to do His father’s will and not His own.. hanks
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by Himself," indicate about His relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to "empty Himself" from His heavenly glory when He became a man? Jesus had earlier claimed full equality with the Father (John 5:17). He was so vitally linked to God the Father that He could not act independently – whatever God did Jesus did. This does not mean that Jesus did not have the power to do anything by Himself (John 10:18). In His humanity the Spirit would rest upon the Messiah giving Him wisdom, strength, and knowledge for His ministry (Isaiah 42:1). So, while here on earth, besides being so closely united, He was also acting in full obedience to God the Father. I have read Philippians 2:6-8 many times, but only this time did I get a glimpse of the true love shown to us by our Lord Jesus, and the humiliation and sacrifice He must have suffered for us. When I read He emptied “Himself” (v7), and He humbled “Himself” (v8), do I start to get an idea of what Jesus voluntary went through. By emptying Himself, Jesus being fully God and at the same time fully man, took the form of a servant. That is, He took the form of a human and by doing so He must have hidden His glory. What a Saviour! By taking on a human form Jesus did not forego His divine nature – He is still God. At the same time, in human form Jesus was sinless. The Holy Spirit insured at conception the sinlessness of Christ. In obedience to the Father, He willingly died on the Cross for us!
Debra Grant
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? 1. Whatever the Father does the Son also does." (John 5:19) "the Son can do nothing by himself,"indicates how dependent Jesus is upon the Father, especially during his time as a human being. "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness." (Philippians 2:6-7) 2. Jesus put himself submitted to God as a human on earth. Jesus on earth as a human didn't operate on his own inherent will and power! Father and Son and Holy Spirit are equal in Person, but the Son and Holy Spirit are subordinate to the Father in role. A theologian might word it: "ontological equality, but economic subordination," in other words, "equal in being, but subordinate in role."[14] This understanding of equality and role is apparent in the very words "Father" and "Son." "The Son can do nothing by himself," indicates how dependent Jesus is upon the Father, especially during his time as a human being.
efeklvn2
Jesus, saying that he could do nothing by himself simply indicates his TOTAL dependence on the Father. This meant that he was constantly in tune with the Father, receiving both instruction and power to execute God's will. I see that Jesus "emptied himself" from his heavenly glory during his days on earth as man, in order to demonstrate to us how a man could live in complete dependence on God's power through the Holy Spirit in us. So from Christ's life on earth, we see the manner of life that God originally intended for man to live. A life of full dependence on God; which really means "walking" and "working" in the (power of) Spirit.
Mutsa
What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? The statement by Jesus came about after he had healed a person on a Sabbath. This was regarded as sacrilege. He tried to explain that he had seen his Father working on a Sabbath on numerous occasions. Here we see Jesus as a son who knew his Father well. He was very close to his Father. He was also obedient to his Father. He trusted his Father and emulated his Father. In saying that the Son can do nothing by himself, he meant that he was in communication with his Father and had his Father’s authority and blessing to do what he was doing. Jesus was delegated to do whatever his Father could do when he so wished. Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? His intention, by divesting himself from Godhood to man, Jesus had to humble himself so that he could perform the role of a servant, an ordinary man. He would not be sinful like man but would carry the burden of man’s sins. Whilst in the form of man he was able to relate to man and be able to teach as man and address issues of man in a credible manner. He could live with man, having been born of a woman. He could relate easily to man and teach according to man’s experience. He would die like man and conquer death through his resurrection and giving promise of life eternal to the faithful. Godswriter
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? It indicates the close relationship with the Father. It also says that He is dependent on Him for guidance and direction in His ministry and life. It also states that He doesn’t do anything without going to Him in prayer. He had to empty Himself of His glory because no one could look at Him as He really was because they would die. They would not be able to gaze at him and live. He had to hide or empty Himself of it. He had to do it in order to able to do the work His father had sent to do.
Jll83
In accepting his role as Son in humanly form, Jesus demonstrated the importance of depending on God, the Father and submitting to His Father's will. He is equal to His Father and the Holy Spirit in person, but each have distinctive roles while operating interdependently.
Philippians1.2
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? Teamwork !!! Just that simple. The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are the greatest example of perfect teamwork. Each knows their part and are willing to take on that responsibility. Jesus was obedient to their plan and lived and grew among us as a normal boy to man till the day the Holy Spirit empowered him at His baptism. Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? The whole game plan of bringing us home ( to the Kingdom of God ) took Jesus to show us how a 'mere mortal' can do it, thus He had to leave His Godly powers behind. Jesus' lifestyle teaches us that through the Holy Spirit we can really find the path to Salvation then entry into the Kingdom of God. "Whatever the Father does the Son also does." (John 5:19) "the Son can do nothing by himself," "Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness." (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus’ statement, “the Son can do nothing by himself,” indicate about his relationship with the Father? From Bible we read clearly About this Statement because Father has power of spirit in Jesus Christ for the human in the world. As Christian we believe Trinity outomatically Son without Father and Holy spirit Nothing, surely Father in heaven has indirrect relationship with His son, Our Father knows us then sends his Son for us in the World, I can say Son of God helps us dirrectly communication between heaven und World if we speak to our Father. So we can say the respectful son for his Father. Why did Jesus have to “empty himself” from his heavenly glory when he became a man? I think from Bible Phil. 2.8 say that he humbled himself and death on a cross! Jesus knows a man, in the world give many Spirits and all People look for good Spirit can make People comfort, love, Fellowship with the spirit, tenderness or compassion. but Jesus became a man and made Himself nothing, to show us in the world, what happend allday in our life? what is the Justice? where is the way of God? From who come Holy Spirit to help us in bad Situation? What can we do if we follow Him? How is life in eternity?
Lottie
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? Jesus statement that He can do nothing by Himself indicates that He and the Father work together. They are one and Jesus always does whatever God wants Him to do. Jesus being made into a man cannot do miracles without the Father and the Holy Spirit. Jesus had to empty himself to become like us in order to reach us. He could not come down to earth in the form of God because no one would be able to look at Him and live. He had to put aside his glory in order to come down and be born and die on the cross. He had to subject himself to the Father's will in this matter. Queen Mc Daniel
Q2. (John 5:19; Philippians 2:6-7) What does Jesus' statement, "the Son can do nothing by himself," indicate about his relationship with the Father? Why did Jesus have to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory when he became a man? 1. The statement "the Son can do nothing by himself," means, no person of the Trinity acts independently of the other, however, during His emptying of self, he was dependent on the Father during his time as human. Therefore, the Father worked through Him by the Holy Spirit. 2.Jesus had to "empty himself" from his heavenly glory to identify with man. "For verily he took not on him the nature o angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in the things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins off the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted he is able to succour them that are tempted". Hebrews 2:16-

As He said the Son can do nothing by Himself, but the things He see’s the Father do He will do likewise. It indicates how Jesus Christ had unity with the Father and that He was not of this world, but came from Heaven, to finish the works God sent Him to finish. Because He is more than a man, He is the Son of God our Lord and Savior. Jesus had the faith and the works that prove He’s Devine. He came from Heaven to become a man like one of us, He humbled Himself being the Son of God to a mortal man. Who now is immortal, and will never die again for He is alive for evermore.
