Q4. Wind of the Spirit

What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

1st John 4:13; 1st John 5:10; Galatians 4:6 - Spirit work in and by him that others, though they see not the principle, can easily discern the change produced.

“People who have been born of the Spirit, Jesus is saying, are motivated and moved by The Spirit, and that His doing is beyond the recipient physical efforts in and of themselves.” Just as the wind blows, the wind itself cannot be physically seen, however it can be easily discerned the blowing of the wind.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God - And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.”

The Spirit breathes where it wills and we will recognize His manifestation by His voice; Jesus spoke thus said the Lord. In every instance of our lives the Spirit is speaking (within the four walls, outside the four wall, in the vineyard, during our leisure time as well as our consecrated time, in the midst of havoc/chaos etc.…), our hearing need the be sensitive to hear His voice. Just as Elijah heard the white noise, in the midst of the noise he heard. The wind will blow as it will but we can hear His voice when He speaks as we move from self to surrender. He who receives by faith the communications of the Spirit is born of the Spirit.

4. With the wind you don't know where it comes from or where it is going.  You can hear it but can't see it.  With the Spirit, you hear the Word of God, can't see it in the atmosphere as it goes out, yet it produces faith in a person, faith to believe and be born again.        (Galatians 3:2 ) This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?  By having the Spirit of God in us, gives us understanding of the Word of God, guidance, discernment, hearing God's voice and having fellowship with Him.

Q4. (John 3:8)
What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

Jesus said that the regenerating work of the Spirit is like the blowing of the wind: you don’t see it; you don’t know where it comes from or where it goes. But as with the wind, you can see the results. People who have been born of the Spirit show evidence of faith and good works. God has changed their sinful hearts and they are now under the control of the Holy Spirit. The evil things they loved to do, they now hate. They now seek the things of God.
As the wind is beyond their control, in the same way no one can control the work of the Spirit. Like a breath of fresh-air the Spirit can blow them out of their spiritual inertia, bringing them a new mind and heart, helping them to become like Christ. At the same time their perspective changes, because they now have a mind that is renewed day by day by the Holy Spirit. The glory that is a reflection of God’s glory should start reflecting through their lives. The Holy Spirit living in them will make sure that this process of positive change will ultimately be completed.

(John 3:8) What does Jesus’ reference to “the wind” teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

People born of the spirit cannot control the work of the Holy Spirit.  They are motivated and moved by an unseen but powerful force beyond themselves.

People who have been born of the Spirit understand that God exists and that they are looked after by the Spirit.  In the wind they see that it blows where it wants to, we cannot see where it comes from or where it is going to.  But we can feel it and see treetoips moving because of the wind.,  Jesus compares the Holy Spirit with the wind.  We do not know where it is coming from or to where it is going.  Yet it dwells in believers even thoigh they do not know where it comes from.

People who have been born of the Spirit, Jesus is saying, are motivated and moved by an unseen but powerful force beyond themselves. The life of the Spirit is a new level of spiritual existence, a different plane entirely. Only people who have been born of the Spirit can perceive and enter the Kingdom of God.

Q4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

This is a question I have struggled with for a long time and for the most part, people I have asked the same question struggle to answer it. I wish Jesus had elaborated more on just exactly what He was saying here. The verse states that people born of the Spirit are like the wind, to paraphrase it. In the strictest sense that would mean that one would not know where people born of the Spirit come from or go to, same as the wind. For years I have meditated on that verse and probably will for a long time to come when more pressing needs are not present, not that the verse is not important but I spend a lot of time in the early hours of the morning with God, and the Spirit has told me many things and I’m sure that if God wants me to know something I just have to be persistent at times.

12 hours ago, Rev. Michael said:

The wind goes where it wants, we can feel it and see its effects yet we don't smell it, see it and we have no control over it yet we know its there doing what its  intended to do.

I love reading other people's posts in here and learn much from them also. The passage I quoted here put a much needed sense of clarity on the subject for me. Thank you so much Pastor Wilson for the forum's display of other people's answer and thank you also for this Bible study. God bless everybody here.

Having just experienced Hurricane Florence last month in my state, I am keenly aware of wind, its power, its consequences. This storm came in with forceful winds carrying an unrelenting deluge of rain for days that impacted NC from the coast to the mountains. It caused numerous deaths, widespread flooding, and profound devastation. No one could control its force, path, or duration. Landscapes and lives have been altered, and recovery will take years.

The analogy of wind applied to the Holy Spirit gives us an amazing perspective and is an instructive comparison. The origins of the wind, its unknown ways, or where it ends are complete mysteries to man. We know it exists because we can see its impact, observe how it affects the natural world, hear its voice as it whispers in a breeze or howls in a fierce gale, feel its presence as it gently cools the skin or blows so hard that one cannot even stand in its midst. It is raw power that cannot be dominated by man, sometimes profitable in filling the sails of a boat and sometimes utterly destructive in cleansing the land. All of these describe the Spirit of God at work!

People born of the Spirit have no real understanding of where He comes from and just how He comes to us. We can “hear” His voice, sense the manifestation of His presence, feel His impact as He regenerates us to spiritual life, and observe the results of real change in our spiritually renewed hearts and minds. But we can’t explain Him, predict Him, or control Him. We are to yield to His power, move with His direction, and trust that whatever He breathes or blows into (or out of) our lives is for ultimate good.  May we never recover!

Q4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

It teaches us that people who have been born of the Spirit act differently than those who are worldly. They have different motivations and desires. They listen to what God tells them to do and are moved by the Spirit inside of them. The Spirit helps them to obey God and gives them power that comes from on high. It causes them to do things that the world thinks are crazy and causes them to love even when they are not loved in return. Their power and confidence come from outside of themselves. It emanates from the Spirit and God Himself.

Q4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

It means that everyone has different motivations and desires as people. It also means that we are motivated by the Spirit to do what God asks us to do. It also speaks to the fact that we are all gifted with special abilities that are to be used in the church to edify it.

ANSWER TO QUESTION 4 LESSON 4

What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?
The attributes of the wind when Jesus uses them in explaining to Nicodemus the nature of the Heavenly Kingdom teach us that those who have been born again are outside the control of non-believers. They are controlled by the Spirit in them. Their desires are not based on the demands of the flesh. The Spirit in them seeks for spiritual rather than material things. The life of one born again person is on another plane which has a spiritual element and extra capabilities and dimensions which those who are not born again cannot discern or comprehend.

The Wind of the Spirit (John 3:8)
The wind (pneuma) blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (pneuma)." (John 3:8)

Q4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

ANS Q 4: People who have been born of the Spirit, Jesus is saying, are motivated and moved by an unseen but powerful force beyond themselves. The life of the Spirit is a new level of spiritual existence, a different plane entirely. Only people who have been born of the Spirit can perceive and enter the Kingdom of God.

Like the wind, an unseen causing great effect, people who are born of the Spirit are moved to act a powerful force beyond themselves (John 3:8).

Q 4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus’ reference to “the wind” teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit”

1. It teaches us that if we can hear the wind blowing, then,  man who is born again hear the voice of the spirit. From experience, the Holy Spirit is an unseen power greater than the person experiencing it. The Holy Spirit reveals Himself to you without saying a word. His  power motivates you to move when you don’t want to move, go, when you don’t want to go. This power now lives in me..

Q 4. (John 3:8) What does Jesus’ reference to “the wind” teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit”

GOD'S ways are mysterious and powerful. To many  they are strange and confusing and quit contrary . Much like a tornado coming to a town near you , people  are lost as to what to do , until it is upon you . Yet to those filled with "the wind" ( the Holy Spirit of GOD ) it is like having a direct line to the weather station and getting the latest forecast  and early warnings , so as to guide you through any storm and away from any danger.

That same wind ( that still small quiet voice of the Holy Spirit ) also allows you to read with clear understanding the roadmap  left to us by GOD - His BIBLE.  Being born of the Spirit allows one to read clearly that roadmap which leads straight to the KINGDOM of GOD.   * An extra bonus is you are also given by the Spirit the 'Password' to enter that Kingdom once you find it : password " Jesus loves me ".

"The wind (pneuma) blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit (pneuma)." (John 3:8)

People cannot control Holy Spirit but Holy Spirit lead us when we accept and make our hearts abode of the Holy SPirit .

Jesus says that if we open the door of the heart ,He will come and stay with us and lead us in all things .

Jesus is giving us a comparison of God and the wind. We can not see the wind but we feel it and know it exist and is real.  We do not know from where it comes or where it goes which describes the mystery of God but we must go where it blows us and must be directed by it and trust that it will lead us to do the will of the one who send it.  Everyone who is born of the Spirit is like the wind, we go where he leads us and do not question the  direction or ask why, we are to just go where He  leads.  That is Faith. ( "it"  used here is not referring to the Spirit, but to the wind).

Q4. Those who have been born of the Spirit are no longer a 2 part being....at Salvation, the dead spirit has been reborn or regenerated and is now home to the Holy Spirit who is our constant companion, to guide, motivate, comfort, encourage, empower, correct, teach.....Invisible, but Who now produces visible change and activity in each believer's life.

Q4. (John 3:8)

Q. What does Jesus' reference to "the wind" teach us about people who have been born of the Spirit?

A. By "wind" he means breath of God or the Spirit of God. Thus as wind can not be controlled by man but God, the person born of the Spirit cannot be controlled or be manipulated by man but by God alone because he is filled with the Spirit of God.
