mary58
a. The ordination (and appointment) process has nothing to do with having the gift, it is just the further training to grow and strengthen and direct that gift. One hopes an ordained man or woman has been gifted as a pastor and/or a teacher -- we select for ordination those who seem to be so gifted. But the moment of ordination doesn't do anything special giftwise; it just gives a title and perhaps authorizes within the structure of a denomination. b. If the "senior pastor" isn't gifted as a pastor then ideally that person knows how to seek out and employ the people in the church who are so gifted; and recognize and train them. But if the senior pastor doesn't acknowledge his/her own lack then there will be strife and deception as the body of the church has to fill the need while battling off the bad "pastor". c. God gives these gifts... is this a trick question?
Travis81
How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? They may be blessed with the gift and not have title, they may conduct the attributes of the gift as they minister in various capacities and not have the title. Acts 1:26 And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell to Matthias; and he was added to the eleven apostles. There can be a ordination service similar or differing from that of Acts 1:26. However, the ordination commencement carried out by man doesn't mean that others cannot possess the spiritual gifting of pastor/teacher without having an official position in a church. I know of someone that ministers to returning citizens and those that are incarcerated in the capacity of teacher and evangelist w/o an official position in a church. Galatians 1:1 - Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;) According to Scripture the person can be appointed and anointed by God to use the spiritual gifting's of pastor or teacher. The lesson use the Apostle Paul as an example: “Paul was an apostle, but clearly he functioned as a pastor during part of his ministry. As a teacher he taught not only locally, but by his letters. He was an evangelist, and you might argue that he was also a prophet” What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? If the “Senior Pastor” is in place due to nepotism, election, appointment, anointed, etc… is the Senior Pastor aligns his/her gifting with the will of God the congregation should follow as the Spirit leads, they should follow as the Senior follows Christ! If the Senior Pastor does not aligns his/her gifting with the will of God the Scriptures doesn’t encourage disobedience, but to be obedience to God more than man and to try his/her spirit with the Spirit. Hebrews 13:17 - Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that [is] unprofitable for you. Hebrews 13:7 - Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of [their] conversation. 1st Thessalonians 5:12 - 5:13 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. [And] be at peace among yourselves. 1st Timothy 5:17 - Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. Galatians 6:6 - Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. The congregation should seek the counsel of the Lord as they minster accordingly through the manifested gifts being that all in Christ are given gifts. As they live, move and having their being through service they may edify the Senior Pastor (prayer, service, communication, etc.… as the Spirit Leads). Lastly, God's giftings do not have to align with our (the congregation) idea of the gifting the Senior Pastor should have! The crux of the matter is how will we (the congregation) respond, will we (the congregation) continue is service according to the Spirit or will we (the congregation) follow the leading of the prince of the air. If a congregation exercises the gifts of the Spirit entrusted to each member according to the leading of the Spirit. The congregation can be richly blessed, a healing place, a place of empowerment, a place having godly influence beyond Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Who gives these gifts? The Holy Spirit!
blezed
(Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? There are many people involved in ministry work that have the spiritual gift of caring for the spiritual needs of people that are not official leaders in the church. Examples of this would be Sunday School teachers, group leaders, mothers of the church etc. What must a church do if its “senior pastor” doesn’t have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? If "senior pastor" does not have the spiritual gift of pastor then the church must seek out one. God give these gifts thru the Holy Spirit. Rev. Michael
The Holy Spirit gives gifts to all those who are believers in Jesus and ask for daily filling of the Spirit. One does not need to have a position within the church to have spiritual gifts. The gifts though will be recognized by those in the church as well as outside the church. Since the Holy Spirit illuminates the congregation and church board, the called pastor probably does have the gift of pastoring. The pastor may need to have others help him develop his gifts. God doesn't call the qualified...…….He qualifies the called
Mutsa
QUESTION 4_LESSON 8. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? One can have a pastoral gift of caring for the spiritual needs of a group of people without having been given any official title. It is not necessary to bestow a title for carrying out this important role. This is because functional pastors in a Christian community are not necessarily the official leaders. What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? The church that has a “senior pastor” who doesn’t have the spiritual gift of pastor should let the “senior pastor” concentrate on administration, teaching and issues of faith and utilize the other junior pastors who are available, some of whom could very likely have the spiritual gift of pastor. Who gives these gifts? These gifts (spiritual) come from God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ.
hanks
Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? This person could be gifted with, for example, with the spiritual gifts of administration (1 Cor 12:28), and/or leading (Rom 12:8) as well, making them of great benefit to the church. Here again, as senior pastor he could have the gifts of administration and leading, even be multi-gifted, all of which would help the church. The Holy Spirit gives us gifts to build up the body of Christ, and to equip us for ministry – training us to be His servants doing our part for the Lord. He also holds us responsible for the way we use our gifts. I pray that I might serve You with the gifts that I have received from You. I pray for Your wisdom in my life and a thirst for knowledge of You.

You can have a pastoral gift of caring for the spiritual needs of a group of people without having been given any official title. Recognition is nice, but not necessary to carrying out this important role. God knows and it is to him that you serve in this gift. The Bible states he must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil. (I Timothy 3:2-7) b. The so-called "senior pastor" may well not have the actual gift of pastor so much as of faith, leadership, teaching, or administration. This person can work in these capacities. c. These gifts are given to us by God in the person of the Holy Spirit
Uncle Dave
Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? A person could have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher and be preaching & teaching in the streets as many have always done. A gift from God is something He issues forth for His own purpose. It could also be that the person with no position within the church is simply not producing fruit with what God has given him. If one has a position he is not qualified to hold, I would think the church should look to replace him as soon as possible to ensure things run as smooth as possible with one who is blessed with the gift of holding such a position. There is more to a position than just the title. It is the anointing & gifting & calling of God to be a pastor. These gifts come from God, of course. Philippians1.2
Q8.4 How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? (Ephesians 4:11) Pastoring comes from a caring heart and teaching from a desire to bless others with wisdom, both are unselfish in nature. When inspired by the Holy Spirit people will just do it and the Holy Spirit will guide other people to them. Many churches have very qualifies teachers doing home Bible studies for instance , their reward is to see the fruit grow in others ....Titles are nice but not important. * What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? Pray for that pastor to more filled with the anointing of the Holy Spirit and to be given fresh wisdom to guide the flock properly. There are occasionally positions filled more for authority than for hands on ministry *( as when a congregation is just way to big , an overseer is needed and not a pastor only ). That being said all Pastors should be getting their strength , Joy , Wisdom , Guidance and caring heart from the HOLY SPIRIT. The Bible also helps us to recognize a good Pastor / leader. ( see I Timothy 3:2-7) A Pastor : " must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?) (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? 1. All of us Christians have an obligation to share Christ where we are. Some are gifted and not using the gift. You can have a pastoral or teacher’s gift of caring for the spiritual needs of a group of people without having been given any official title. 2. We must pray that God will show the person what their gift really is. In the New Testament, the words "elder, pastor, and bishop or overseer are sometimes used synonymously, though each word has its own distinct flavor. Queen Mc Daniel
Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? 4a. A person with a spiritual gift of a pastor or teacher role is not bound by titles or position within the church, it’s by meeting the service needed of those in need via their spiritual gift. 4b. What must a church do, if a church has a “senior pastor “without the spiritual gift of pastor? According to Gods word, the church should be obedient. The body of Christ are to “submit to Spiritual leaders according to 1 Thess. 5:12-13; Hebrews 13:7 “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves; for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with you, and not with grief; for that is unprofitable for you.” 4 c. Who gives these gifts? Ephesians 4:10-12 tell us that “He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things. And he gave some, apostle; and some, prophet; and some evangelist; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry for the edifying of the body of Christ: There fore, the answer is Christ via the Holy Spirit. I've been told that I have "a pastor's heart in the way I care about, care for and love people. I'm not a pastor! But He has used this gift in my leadership roles which makes it easy to function to flow wherever He "puts me". b. I would say to pray for him/her to receive that gift...and short of that, to pray for others in leadership and pastoral roles to come alongside him/her and who have the gift of pastor to help cover that role. c. Old Jerry
The spiritual gift of pastor or teacher is gift that given by God and not by the church. Therefore you can have the gift without an official position in the church. But then the church would not be using your spiritual gift the way that God wanted it to be used. We had a church that the wife of the pastor was really the pastor (or the one that watched after the flock) and the pastor was just the man that would give us the message from God. Ang B
People don't have to be ordained by man to have a gift of plastering. Those who are gifted can care for small groups or even one on one care. The senior pastor may be more gifted in teaching, and in leadership or admin. This allows others in the church with the pastoral gift to be used. It isn't so much as to who does it. As long as someone is doing it to help the church grow. Rosesam
Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its “senior pastor” doesn’t have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? The gifting is given by the Holy Spirit. The official position in a church is given by people. Sometimes this gift may be exercised over a small number of people like small groups. It is not necessary that people have to recognize and officiate someone to a position, for in serving people, we are only serving God. We can pray for him to have the gift of the pastor or for him to see the gift in others. It is the Holy Spirit who gives these gifts for the equipping of the church. It is not the church that gives people gifts but rather God who does and God does not specifically give gifts to only leaders ordained in a church. It can be given to any person. The church can pray for God to give him the gift or pray for other leaders that have the gift to rise up and for the pastor to identify those leaders. The Holy Spirit gives us the gifts. MyRockOfAges
Q4. (Ephesians 4:11) How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? Who gives these gifts? The gifting of pastor is about caring, protecting and looking after the flock or congregation. While the gifting of teacher is to teach the congregation the word of God to make them understand the truth and live in the truth. While one can serve the body of Christ in these callings or gifting without having the title or recognition. This gifting is from above to equip the body of Christ and hence the service is more relevant than the title. These gifts are from Him and given to equip and build the body of Christ. In some instances, Pastor will also fulfill the role of teacher or evangelist as the gifting maybe. In case of large churches, senior pastor will not be able to function fully in the role of individual caring and ministering as this will be done by junior pastors. In such churches, senior pastor will be more active in the role faith, leadership, administration and teaching. As these gifts are from Him, ministers who operate in these gifts ought to be accountable to Him in rendering service that honors His name. Celia P
How could a person have the spiritual gift of pastor or teacher without having an official position in a church? It is Father who calls us to a role that He requires us to serve in, He puts that desire on our hearts, gives us the qualifications, and leads us into position. He calls us to be Christ like, so that should also include seeking after all the gifts the Spirit has to offer, to serve our amazing Father. All roles, services are carried out in our everyday life, in our families, to those who our Father sends to us, to those we meet, all an opportunity to minister to, to shepherd, to serve, to comfort, to build up, to heal, to pray for. What must a church do if its "senior pastor" doesn't have the spiritual gift of pastor? It depends on the circumstances as to why the person was appointed as senior pastor in the first place. If I was for some reason appointed as a senior pastor, and I realised I did not have the gift for it, first I would express this to the church, ask them to lay hands on and pray for me, for a supernatural anointing, for help from the Holy Spirit, to give me the qualifications for this role. I would pray and ask Father if it is His will that I take, this role, or whether I should just concentrate on the areas that I am gifted in.Who gives these gifts? The Holy Spirit, whom the Father sent through the request of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah?????? Love and Blessings to you all.. xxIN THE PRESENCE OF YOUR MAJESTY In the presence of Your Majesty I sit here and pray Thanking You Lord for yet another day To see all Your glory To feel Your sweet grace To feel uplifted for the trials I may face Lord Your love is amazing Your grace it justifies me To wake up each morning with You by my side What an awesome feeling of love Lord Your love is so amazing Lord Your grace in me justified For me to be here for just one more day Such mercy, grace, such love Lord I ask You for Your guidance I ask for Your will to be done I ask for You to lift me up to be seated with Your son Father Abba, You are holy Your happiness is my desire Shine Your blessed light in me Shine real bright so all may see You have promised me forever What an awesome gift to receive To walk with You in Your garden That is all I really need To cleanse my body in Your fountain To eat the fruits off Your trees Father all the gifts You have promised Please send them down to me So that I can help all Your lost children To bring them safely home to You For this is what You have asked of me Therefore this is what I must to do (Celia Porter 2013)
