Alicea
Q2. How are we to obey the commandment to "Honor your father and your mother" in the kind of situation Gideon finds himself? What justification does Gideon have for his action? (Matthew 10:37). Honor means to treat with respect not necessarily obey. We are to obey our parents "in the Lord",worshipping a false god is not in the Lord. We are to obey God rather than man. When there is a conflict over what is the right thing to do and what are parents tell us to do is in conflict with what the word of God tells us to do, we must obey God. Gaye
We have to honor and respect our Father and Mother, but not put them above our Heavenly Father. Gideon had a choice to honor his father or to obey God, He chose to obey God. Matthew:10-37 We must leave our Fater & mother & follow God. Craig
How are we to obey the commandment to "Honor your father and your mother" in the kind of situation Gideon finds himself? What justification does Gideon have for his action? (Matthew 10:37). No. We are to love God and obey His commandants above all other people or things. That is the foundation in having a relationship with God. He is Creator and is above all things or people. Gideon's justification is that he is obeying God and that his father, Joash, is in rebellion and disobedience to God in having a pagan altar on his property and practicing pagan worship. Joash is in direct conflict with God and is in sin. Gideon must obey His God regardless of where the family is spiritually.
Brendamay
God himself gave us that commandment, to Honour our Father and Mother, But he also wants us to obey him, So when Gideon obeyed God, Joash Wasn't cross with Gideon, he stood up for him. To Honour God before our Father and Mother, dose not take away the Honour for our Parents. Gideon Honoured God first. but Joash understood this commandment. and he supported Gideon. It is the same for us. we love and honour our Mother and father, But we must honour God first.
Nina
We are to honor our mother and father but we are also to put God first. This is what Gideon did by obeying God. God is always right. Sometimes our earthly parents falter and fail. Obeying God may be the act our parents need to gt right with God. Gideon needed no justification in obeying God. Gideon's obedience was upheld by his father.
JustJeff
We should always treat our parents with respect and dignity, even when they are wrong. If they sre doing something against God's will then we are expected to obey the Lord. Parents should know their child's priorities and not be offended if it is necessary to humbly correct them. When Gideon obeyed the Lord his father came to his defense. While this may not always be the case obedience to God is our first priority. What justification does Gideon have for his action? (Matthew 10:37). Our Father God comes first. He will not tell us to do things that may dishonor our parents. The dishonoring part is our choice. Gideon obeyed God.
