PressThrough
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What is the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? The scope and breadth of our needs to live a godly life is a complete knowledge of the scriptures, as God has provided. Knowing God is required if we are going to receive the glory and power of God to live a virtuous life with all of the gifts He has given us to accomplish it unto immortality. starrmax
Q-2 a) scope & extent & boundaries--our needs determine the supply, which is unlimited based on God's divine power knowing and trusting God is the means for accessing God's supply (Hebrews 11:6)
anmask
If we don't apply ourselves and dig into His Word and promises for our life., Strive to do God's will for our lives how will we develope that intimate relationship with Him. How will we strengthen our faith which in turn will help our discipline.. We have to have discipline in our walk to live more in line with the new identity we have in Christ. Seeking His Word, cultivating an intimate relationship with God gives us the power to lead a disciplined life resting and having complete faith and convidence in His Word and promises give us power over satan and the world to resist temptation and turn from evil. To conform to God's will for us and not the worlds.
rossl58
Again, the group plowing the field ahead of me has pretty much covered it all. But here's what I wrote in my devotional journal, anyway: God has given us all we need, both to live in the physical world (life) and in the spiritual (godliness). We get these things through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Knowing him is so important. People who want to reduce Christianity to a mere intellectual belief or a credo are missing the point: God wants to know us, and paid a horrific price in order to have a relationship with us. == Ross ==
worshipwarrior
The scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness" was provided for us here on earth and into life eternity. "Everything" meant every--thing, including all, nothing is exempted. It speaks of our whole life, body, soul and spirit. The Holy Spirit teaches us about God. God has given us the Holy Spirit to teach us to know Him deeply & intimately. So we have no reason not to know God intimately. The Bible has been provided for us and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, revelations about Who God is, will be very clear to us and we can directly communicate with God through our devotional or prayer times. tweety
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What are the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? The scope and the extent will be as wide as we allow it, there are no boundaries, we'll receice all we should, once it is the will of God, it's just that sometimes we may ask for things that is not his will for us so we won't get it, noteverything that we think we need is good for us, or is desired by God for us. So we really need to understand that. God is our provider, as he provides for the plants, the animals, and he's always providing for us, sometimes because of our selfish desires we rob ourselves of his provision. I strongly believe God provides all we need for life and godliness. What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? Knowledge or knowing God is the premis eofthis promise, if we don't know the type of God that we serve, then it will be almost impossible to believe this verse. Once we are knowledgeable, then we would have known the vastness of God and of His power and then we would know that he is faithful to all His promises. The more we know, the more we'll be able to accept, acknowlegde, apply and understand.
cct1106
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What is the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? God has freely given the precious and very grand promises through which they may become sharers in divine nature. With earnest effort we can gain knowledge, have self-control, endurance, godly devotion, brotherly affection and love. If these qualities overflow we will never become inactive or unfruitful with regards to accurate knowledge.
linda bass
God gives us everything we need in this life as well as the next because we have placed our faith in His Son, Christ Jesus. This doesn't mean we have carte blanche to recieve everything we want. The Lord's promise was to supply are needs, not our wants or desires. tizalouisa
I believe that God as our Heavenly Father provides for our spiritual growth just as our earthly fathers provide for our physical growth. There is no special esoteric or secret knowledge needed to know God. He has provided through Jesus Christ all the knowledge we need to know Him. As a Loving Father, He gives generously to each of us what we need to continually grow in grace and knowledge of Him
Karen Briggs
"Everything" has no boundaries or limits. Knowledge, the kind that comes through study and prayer and an intimate moment-to-moment relationship with Jesus, gives us access to this promise of provision. dhs
It is helpful to read this verse backward: Christ has called us by his power and righteousness. This calling, as Peter has already stressed, comes to us by way of "knowing" or "getting to know" Christ, i.e. there is an understanding of Christ, his work and our need and a growing relationship to Christ. This "relational knowledge" can develop further in the context of a new life focussed on God, and everyting needed for that has been given to us. Life is meant comprehensively, but still there is a focus on a certain type of life here. "Everything we need for life" does not mean that Christians will never suffer loss or poverty or crises. But it means that God will give us everything we need (and don't have) to enable us to live a life of character and closeness to him in the midst of different circumstances. I certainly do believe that God can change circumstances as well - but I don't think it holds true very often, that we actually "need" the change to be able to live a God-focussed life. Here the statement is that God will give us all we need.
Nansman
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What is the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? This verse does seem to be talking about provision, but not simply of physical provision or provifing creature comforts. God has given us all that we will ever need to be completely full, happy and secure; a relationship with him. God (through the display of power seen in the risen Lord) has given us the ability to re-establish the original relationship that He created man for. He has also given us the key to unlocking this relationship...sonship through accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior. Once we accept Jesus into our lives, God gives us the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit (the "knowledge" of Him) which works in our lives to transform us, bringing us into closer relationship with God, exposing and convicting us of our sins and making us ever more godly. There is no limit on the scope and intent of "everything we need", apart from that which we may want that is not in God's will for us. Notice Peter says everything we need, not everything we think we should have, or everything we want. Sometimes we want what is not in our best interests, or that which may hinder God's plan for us, even if the thing we want is not in itself, intrinsically bad. If I want a million dollars to start a huge ministry to feed the poor (not intriniscally bad thing), but I haven't mastered my own finaces to God's will, I probably won't wake up anytime soon and find a big bag of money on my doorstep! God provides us everything we need, WHATEVER that may be, to fulfill the purpose he has for us, and to draw us ever closer to him.
chek
The scope pertains in living a godly life, because Peter said that as we know Jesus better, his divine power gives us everything we need for living a godly life. As we come to know Jesus we have HIS divine power to overcome sin in our lives. Knowing Jesus here means knowing him intimately as what the greek word "GINOSKO" means. GINOSKO means intimately knowing your partner. As we come to know God it will lead to self-control. Self-control will lead to patience endurance. Patience endurance will lead to godliness. Lawrence
2 PETER 1:3 Q2------ IN THE SCRIPTURES ALL POWER COMES THROUGH GOD; HE WILL PROVIDE; BY "KNOWING GOD" WE WILL EXPERIENCE ALL THAT GOD PROMISES. AMEN.
Linda478
2 Peter 1:3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. Our boundaries would be everything that is NOT godliness. In scripture God has revealed Himself as Eternal Having always been in existence; has no beginning and no end. Colossians 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. Omnipotent All-powerful. Having no equal in terms of power, strength, and ability. Omnipresent All-present. Existing everywhere at once; not limited to time or space. Ps 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Omniscient All-knowing. Aware of everything that has occurred, is occurring, or will occur. Results in absolute intimacy, because the all-knowing God thoroughly understands every aspect of His people John 16:30...Lord, thou knowest all things. Immutable Unchanging. Psalm 102:27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. God will not deny those who earnestly seek Him in truth and the more we know Him and gain understanding of who He is the more we comprehend His great promises and righteousness toward us. He even gives us the heart to seek Him.

Jewell
There are no boundaries - he provides all of our physical and spiritual needs in this life and eternity. Craig
I don't believe there are any boundaries involved in this verse. God has made available all that we need spiritually for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him. Without a personal knowledge and relationship with God, we do not have access to this provision.
JustJeff
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What is the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? Our God is Jehovah Jireh, our God Provider. He gives us everything we need, materially and spiritually. We lack fo nothing. To realize the fullness of His benefits we must know His character and nature which we find in His word where we learn intimacy with the Lord. We then see that He provides all of our needs, not our wants. Accepting that is where the godliness part comes in.

What are the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? The Power to lead a godly life comes from God. Because we don't have the resources to be truly godly. God allows us to "share His divine nature" in orede to keep us from sin and helpus live for Him. Luckett
I believe that when we became children of God, He gave within us everything that we need, all we have to do is 1st realize it, and then utilize it - There are no boundaries to what God has provided within us. To know God is to have the heart of God, God said David was a man after His own heart, which means David strove to know God, to know His heart, to have that relationship when you just know the person you have a relationship with. Mephibesheth
Q2. (2 Peter 1:3) Meditate on this verse for a few minutes. It is a verse about provision. What is the scope and extent and boundaries of "everything we need for life and godliness"? What does "knowledge" or "knowing God" have to do with this promise? This scripture said God "has" given us "everything" we need. Thus, we already have it. The word "everything" means that it has NO boundaries or limitations. There is something, however, that may appear to have boundaries - the actual reality of this fact. However, these limitations or boundaries are illusory and are already dissapearing like the passing night when dawn has arrived, as we are growing in the knowledge of this truth. Who makes us grow? The Holy Spirit. We are in Him and He is in us just as Jesus prayed for in John 17. Thus, we have intimacy (knowledge) with Him. Thus, we know Him. Our knowledge of him, however, grows. Because it grows, we have eternal (never-ending) life, which is why all who are in the kingdom of God are "spitually poor" like Jesus said in the 1st Beattitude. No matter how long we have been "in Christ" and no matter how much we have grown in our knowledge of Him, we will never be as spiritually poor as we are today. The important thing is that we have at least some knowledge of Him, because such knowledge comes from the Deposit which absolutely guarantees our inheritance until Christ returns and claims what are His possessions. Knowledge of the truth is gradually imparted from His Spirit to our spirit and from our spirit to our minds. At this point our minds perceive the actual true realities Christ spoke into existence. Finally, our bodies are forced to comply with the demands of the mind as the mind conforms to the demands of the Spirit. It is as what was foretold in Genesis 9: Ham (physical body) will be the lowest slave to Japheth (mind) and Shem (spirit), and Japheth's territory will expand as he is renewed in the tents of Shem. I see something else from this scripture in 2Pet 1:3. Jesus does not need our permission or agreement to create and He creates everytime he opens His mouth and speaks; put another way, Jesus' words are actually accomplished deeds, whether or not we are aware of them or agree with them. For instance, when He created light, He merely said "let there be light" and there was light - whether anyone believed it or not! Also, when Jesus told Philip, "from now on, you do know the Father" - from that point on Philip did know the Father - whether He believed it or not. In the same way, when Jesus tells us that we are happy when we are poor, meek, merciful, hungry, pure in heart, and etc - then we are - whether we believe it or not. Thus, for those who actually believe that God's words are true and authoritative and have thus received the Spirit, they need only to increase in knowledge of His word, by hearing it. As they do this, they will become aware of the true reality of the qualities within and around them. There is one more thing they must do - remember! Just as God at some point in our own lives said to us, "from now on, you do know the Father," if we forget what we heard, we will be like a man who looks at himself in the mirror and later forgets what he looks like. When this happens, the old realities become more real to us than the true realties and we, like Peter, begin to sink deep in sin. If anyone should panic by realizing the logical truth of this text, they should pray to Jesus, "Lord, I do believe, please help my unbelief" - and the Lord Jesus who cannot lie and has the power to do what He promises, will certainly help his unbelief.
