Q4. The Power of God's Great Promises

Recommended Posts

Strong desires erode our faith because we start taking our eyes of God and looking at the deisres and pretty soon like the fruit in Eden, the desires start looking so good that we give in and taste.

Living in the Spirit which produces good fruit or desires to grow in God.

When you have a strong desire for God then you spend time getting to know God.

God's promises and our desires are at odds with each other because we still have the sin nature fighting against what God wants us to do.

God's promises helps to do what pleases him and keeps our eyes on Him while the strong desires try to replace God in our lives.

Q4. (2 Peter 1:4) How can strong desires erode our faith and corrupt our lives? What strong desires can build our faith? What does a strong desire for God have to do with the "knowledge" of God, or "knowing" God? How are God's promises and evil desires at odds with each other? How does one build and the other erode our faith?

If we let evil desires to take over in ourlives it will take out the fire in us and we will become cold to godly things and we will begin to focus on the wrong things or material things. What strong desires can build our faith? The desire in knowing God better and better. As we come to know God better and better we will become intimate with Him and we will start to focus on his words and promises. Instead of gratifying our evil desires we should focus on God's promises.

Any strong desire that originates in the flesh will erode my faith and corrupt my life. Even if it seems for good, IF IT ISN'T OF GOD, IT ISN'T FOR GOD. The strong desires that will build up my faith are those that are surrendered to the Lord and parallel His desires. Truly knowing God and His desires in a personal way will require my strong desire to seek after Him because that knowledge takes time and discipline on my part that don

If we seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, then His desires and righteousness will be put into our hearts. The desires that we seek on our own derive from our flesh and a lot of the time sinful desires. If we don

Strong desires can erode our faith and corrupt our lives because we let them become important. Those that can build our faith are a desire for God's companionship, His love, eternity with Jesus. These strong desires come about as we learn more (knowledge) about God or know God better.

God's promises have no evil, therefore if we have evil desires they must be in conflict with what God desires for us. Evil erodes our faith as it erodes all good things. It is God's promises, our relationship with Him, our desire to please Him and the unquenchable thirst for His word that builds our faith.

Strong desires erode our faith and corrupt by displacing Jesus in our lives. Desires like wanting to be holy like God; living like Jesus Christ; wanting to be close to God and living out the beatitudes are some desires that can build our faith. In order to have a knowledge of or to to know God, I must have a strong desire or I will permit other temporal things to distract me.

What we desire in our lives determines whether we are corrupted or living vigorous, connected lives with God.

Strong desires can erode our faith by supplanting God as first in our lives. Seeking the Kingdom of God and it's righteousness should be our foremost desire. Doing so will add other desires, like prayer, praise, worship, study, works, fellowship, et al. By doing all of these our knowledge of the Lord will most certainly increase as these are His acts that we are desireous of and in doing, we become more like Him.

God's promises are designed to build our faith and increase our desire to do good as opposed to evil things that we desire which make us live for the day and lose sight of our blessed hope. That will destroy our faith.

Our hearts---Our feelings of love and desire---dictates to a great extent how we live because we always find time to do what we enjoy. We have to guard our hearts above all else, making sure we concentrate on those desires that will keep us on the right path. Make sure your affections leads you in the right direction. Put bounderies on your desires: Don't go after everything you see, Look staigth ahead, keep your eyes fixed on your goal, and don't get sidetracked on deours that lead to sin.

The will of the Holy Spirit is in constant opposition to our sinfuldesires. The two are on ooposite sides of the Spiritual battle.

Our evil desires are; God's Promises are:

Evil...........................................................................Good

Destructive................................................................Productive

Easy to ignite.............................................................Difficult to ignite

Difficult to stile...........................................................Easy to stile

Self-centered.............................................................Self-giving

When those desires become more to you then your relationship with God. To know His heart, to know His Word, and His desire for you and your life. We can't be lukewarm, when we are undecided abut who's we are we have a war within ourselves. That evil desire wars with our desire for God. To increase our desire for God means we increase our faith, our love, and our wanting to do God's will. whe we dwell on evil desires, we move away from God and lean on our own selfish desires. This is what the enemy wants, to put us away from God. But if we maintain our focus on Him who has made us, we grow in our desire to serve Him and to Trust in Him.

If fleshly desires are strong, they can cause a person to doubt the truth of the whole gospel which includes not only forgiveness of sins, but also deliverance from them. For instance, in Christ, our sinful desires were circumcised by the Holy Spirit so that we are not only forgiven for our sins, but our desire for sin has been taken from us; it is true that we can still be led into sin for lack of knowledge, but we no longer burn inwardly for sin.

Desires for God come first when God reveals His desire for us and then, secondly, when we delight ourself in Him (Ps37:4). The word "delight" means "soft." We are soft when we let Him have his way with us by receiving and accepting Him and trusting His handling of us. After He does this, He replaces our old sinful desires with good desires.

Because we tend to follow our desires, it is important that we let our desires be the desires of God. When these desires bear fruit in the form of good deeds that we and others can see, the devil who lies and says that Jesus has not saved us from our sin is publicly proven wrong and praise is publicly given to our God.

The strong desire for things other than God can come between you and God. Our faith fades and we become desperate to do things on our own and then things start to fall apart in our lives and we start to blame everyone other than ourselves. God's promises for our lives come with a price of loving and obeying Him and our evil desires will never love or obey God because they are selfish in nature. Faith builds us up to the point were our only desire is heaven bound to see the face of God and be in His presence forever. The evil desires are selfish and are destructive and will separate us from God forever.

Q4. (2 Peter 1:4)

How can strong desires erode our faith and corrupt our lives?

What strong desires can build our faith?

What does a strong desire for God have to do with the "knowledge" of God, or "knowing" God?

How are God's promises and evil desires at odds with each other?

How does one build and the other erode our faith?

Evil desires and **** draw us away from God. We become more and more focused on these desires and consequently less and less on our relationship with our Lord. This results in the weakening of our faith and eventually corrupts our lives. It is only when we constantly study His Word, and desire to be in His presence that we become stronger and stronger against anything that draws us away from our God. We must strive to have a personal relationship with our Lord; we must get to know Him intimately, and not only know about Him. This we can only achieve by earnestly studying His Word and being often in prayer. Jesus has promised to send the Holy Spirit to help us. This He has done, and it is with the help of the Holy Spirit that we become more and more like Jesus every day.

Jesus Christ is the person can rid us of the fascination of the world's evil desires and who can cleanse and purify us by His presence and His power. To walk with Christ is to walk in safety from the world's taint. This is from a quotation from "The Letters of Peter and Jude" by The Rev. William Barclay, which I think encapsulates the answer to the question.

The way that strong desires erode our faith and corrupt our lives is by us going after that desire and if that desire interferes with what God has for us then we will not go for what God wants us to do.

A strong desire that can build our faith is wanting to be with God

4a)The fleshly human desires of self are against God,used by satan &are strong enough to pull us away from reading/hearing scripture and God’s plan for our lives, and bit by bit, can weaken our trust in God& cause us to fall into sin. We need to stay close to the Lord to prevent this.

b)The desire to please, God, serve Him by fulfil God’s greatest commandment "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:27-38, quoting the Shema' in Deuteronomy 6:5).can build our faith. c)Knowledge of God is possible without truly knowing God personally in a relationship with him. The former is good, but strong desire to know God more closely even better.

d)Evil desires lead us away from God, and erode our faith. Whereas the promises of God are good for all circumstances. Filling our hearts with joy, confidence, love &positive attitude in distressing circumstances. They build our faith & our Christian life in troubled society. We musn’t lose site of God’s promises & keep on the way.

Strong desires can erode our faith and corrupt our lives by taking our focus off God and onto those things we desire.  A desire to be Christ-like and to participate in God's divine nature is healthy, life giving, and does build our faith.  We cannot grown unless we are focused on God's Word.  We need to be steadfast in the Lord.

A strong desire for God motives a believer to study God's Word to find out more about God and to really get to know God as far as is possible. This endeavor strengthens, deepens, and enriches a believer's relationship with God.   As we gain more knowledge about God, we gain more knowledge and insight about ourselves and what God expects from us.  Through knowledge of God we learn what His will for our lives is.

God's promises and evil desires are odds with each other because they come from different sources warring to influence our minds and allegiance.  The Kingdom of God versus the satanic world system.

When we walk away from the satanic world order and embrace Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God our faith is blessed and growth results. Remaining conformed to this world is erosion and death because it is governed and enslaved to Satan.

How can strong desires erode our faith and corrupt our lives? THE MORE WE THINK ABOUT THOSE DESIRES, THE LESS WE THINK ABOUT GOD.

What strong desires can build our faith? DESIRES TO KNOW GOD AND HIS TRUTHS MORE THAN OUR DESIRE TO SIN.

What does a strong desire for God have to do with the "knowledge" of God, or "knowing" God? IT IS OUR ONLY DEFENSE AGAINST THE FLESH.

How are God's promises and evil desires at odds with each other? GOD IS INTOLERANT OF SIN.  TO ANTICIPATE SIN IS TO DEGENERATE OUT LOVE AND FAITH IN GOD AND HIS PROMISES.

How does one build and the other erode our faith?  WHAT WE FEED WILL GROW.  FEED OUR FAITH; IT GROWS.  FEED OUR DESIRES, THEY GROW.

Strong desires which do not glorify God take us away from God and put distractions in our lives from living a life pleasing to God.  Sin grows slowly and results in death, as these strong desires keep growing we become spiritually dead.  Strong desires can also include good desires if they become our obsessions.

The desires to love God with all our heart, mind and soul, the desire to know him as he is, see him, study his word, the desire to submit to God and resist the devil, the desire to imitate Jesus and follow him, the desire to serve him better every day are all strong desires which will build or faith.

When we have a strong desire for God, we will do every thing within our reach to know him more nearly and in every way his purpose for our life and live accordingly.

Jesus has said if you love the world you will not love me.  The world's evil desires will do everything for us to be dethatched from Gods promises be manifested in our lives.

Strong desires erode our faith and corrupt our lives causing us to sin and become enemies of the cross.  Strong desires that can build our faith are similar to the Apostle Paul's, 'I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death'. Such desires build our faith and strengthen our relationship with  God.  A strong desire for God brings us to studying the word of God so that we have "knowledge" of God, and "knowing" God we know how to please Him. God's promises and evil desires at odds with each other because they take you into different directions.  Evil desires take you away from God and  erode our faith while a desire for the knowledge of God draws us into seeking Him more.

Strong desires can cause us to backslide or cause us to become carnal believers instead. It can create idolatry in our lives. It can cause sins to erode our faith walk where our testimony suffers damage. A strong desire to be with the Lord can build our faith back up and keep it that way. A desire to be holy and pure can keep us on the straight and narrow. Without it we can never know God. What I am trying to say is that when there is no desire. The intimacy between us and God will die out and the flame He created in us will die out as well. God’s promises and evil desires are at odds because one wars with the flesh while the other wars with the Spirit essentially. God’s promises build our faith when we choose to read the Word and apply to our lives daily. Evil desires erode it by causing us to sin and ruin our testimony little by little.
