Craig
Q4. (2 Peter 1:10) Why is Christian character an essential indicator of being saved or rescued by Christ? What Biblical assurance of salvation can you offer the fruitless, barren "believer"? A professed believer's character is an essential indicator of being saved or rescued by Christ because it indicates the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit within that believer's life. Activity of the Holy Spirit within a believer's life always produces some fruit and effectiveness for the Kingdom of God. In attempting to assure a barren Christian of their salvation I would quote Peter from Peter's sermon recorded in Acts 2: "...whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved." Acts 2:21 And "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16. I think a person can be saved in Jesus Christ but not be an effective follower of Jesus Christ. Having said that, I believe that a person who has claimed and invited Jesus Christ into their life as their personal Lord and Savior may not be flawlessly effective or fruitful for Jesus, but their is some evident fruit and effectiveness for Jesus. There is growth and spiritual development at some level.
IvoryEagle
Why is Christian character an essential indicator of being saved or rescued by Christ? THE GOAL IS TO TAKE ON THE MIND OF CHRIST; WE NEED CHRISTIAN CHARACTER. What Biblical assurance of salvation can you offer the fruitless, barren "believer"? NO ONE IS QUALIFIED TO EARN IT; IT IS A GIFT.

Christian character is an essential indicator of being saved or rescued by Christ because it shows a life that has been renewed and transformed; no longer gravitating towards the old ways. The Biblical assurance of salvation that can be offered to the fruitless, barren "believer" is found in Acts 2:21, 'But everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.' A holy life proves the reality of our salvation. (MacDonald, W. 1995) There is no assurance I can offer them.
